Maybe a little too late, but if the claims they are true, then it clouds Blackfish a little bit.
In most documentaries you have to ask yourself what the goal or agenda was...and t is clear in BF that they want SW shut down. But if they need to resort to making some small details false—like the chick who claims she was riding the whale when the SW employee claims it was not— makes you ask what or who else was 'planted' in the doc to add emotional commentary. They clearly had a solid platform of scientific evidence about these whales in captivity and emotional stories about trainer deaths, that they could have could have built BF around alone.
That said....I am not pro-SW. Frankly I dont really care one way or another. I have not been to SW since I was a kid, and I put animal trainers in a same high risk job category and you know your risks when you take the job. I dont think that animal captivity is all bad, esp in situations where an animal is either hurt of cant function in the wild and would otherwise end up dead. In most cases, these animals are cared for better then they could in the wild from a nutrition and health stand point. Are they still captive, sure, but many zoos are trying to replicate as natural as an environment as possible.
What I do find constantly surprising is the amount of outrage over a single animal when there is so much worse happening human to human right outside your door. Or your dog? It was separated from its parent? it truly is being held captive, no?
