Ran into a buddy who said this exact same thing happened to him except they threatened to show him furiously exercising while watching certain videos on his phone.

He told the company who he works for that he apologetically does this and the entire IT laughed at him and just said to ignore it.

I got thought once. Then my wife asked me why i had tape over my phone camera.....

The subject line was my name/address/Phone# and it was someone claiming to have installed spyware on my phone so they see all the "seedy and girlie websites" I visit. They claimed to have a lot of power in my town, spelled out in CAPSLOCK. They also claim to have spied on me through my phone's camera and "have recorded all my sordid actives".

I have to pay 8k or I'll be exposed to my family and community. It made me think of this thread.

Luckily for me all my seedy websites and sordid activities are relatively mild.

Very low. They need just 2 suckers for each million they send in order to make profit.

I got the same one a few weeks ago.. but it had my old home address and my old landline phone number.. Same thing, threatened me with coming by my house ... Claimed they had control of the camera on my phone.. blah blah blah..

I've read that the success of these types of scams come down to timing and coincidence: if someone has participated in "sordid activities" and then the very next day one of these e-mails arrives, that is the only time these things work.

have you seen any of these videos where a youtuber has been answering spam/scam calls, and replying by talking to the people using their real names, talking about things in their environment, etc. and he has them on camera to see their real time reaction?

i saw one where the woman who called him was clearly working in an Indian call center, she freaks out and calls other co-workers over, etc. pretty funny stuff.
