Bored Upgrade - discussion (3 Viewers)

MOBILE. MOBILE. MOBILE. Need to have the "switch to mobile version" button at bottom left of page placed back. Time stamps are stupid....really. Need to see actual time, not "Posted 6 minutes ago"

I'd be happy to pay a subscription to the boards so they don't get crappy.

If you start with "site:forums.footballguys.com", it will search within threads iirc.  

Separate note: why does it paste my prior post when I start a brew reply with a quote?

OK, I just fixed it

For anyone else who was having this issue, go to extensions. You might have something that auto loads the next page. Disable it and you are good

 
My problem is I was always worried about my board cred, now I've got to worry about rep

Someone at the vendor told the FBG decision makers "it will look more like social media, that's what all the kids are doing these days..."

Maybe even talk about demographics something something or other?

hey memphisfoundy and other dudes working on this thanks for getting r dun and putting up with all of our bs i think even the biggest larooshes amongst us actually appreciate it take that to the bank bromigos 

 
Another vote for "This is awful, I may not use this site anymore"

No desktop mode on mobile? No upping post counts per page? No upping threads per page?

The mobile mode doesn't even show the name of the person quoted. Quote trees are useless as I have no idea who was being quoted. In fact, the entire forum is unusable on mobile.

 
Who's actually getting a mobile version here....? Not me. Looks the same on my android phone as it does on computer. I see NO way to switch to a mobile version.

Chewing up my battery with all these avatars and whatever else I really don't need to see when I'm reading/posting from my phone.

Aside from all the other problems, you guys have set up the notifications wherein the board will email you and you cannot turn it off.  Thats just plain stupid.  I don't need you guys clogging up my inbox.  There is absolutely no reason why such a setting is necessary.  All the notifications should be togglable.

I agree here.. Mornings I tend to review threads based on the last time I came to the site last night to catch up..

Don't want to Math so early in the morning before the :coffee: kicks in.

In over 25 years of working in IT( Yea, I'm old get off my lawn!!! ) I have NEVER seen a change/upgrade go smoothly out of the gates,nor liked by all.

No matter how much testing, reviews, etc.. you do some things won't work as intended and no matter what you do you cannot please all of the people all of the time.

 
Not that anyone cares, but this mobile is so horrific I think it's going to severely limit my visitation to these boards. It's really, really bad and I hope the admin are listening.

Pleasing atleast some of the non-admins some of the time seems like a higher bar than they've achieved.

Interesting.. Apple or Android?? I ask as Last night the only way I accessed the site was through my Samsung Galaxy phone and although it took some getting use to the changes, I didn't find it "Horrific" :shrug:

I do not work in IT. But even I can use common sense when making decisions.

I have simple questions.

Why limit topic/post counts per page to 25? Why can't we change/customize it?

Why no MOBILE version?

Why change timestamp criteria and why can't we change/customize it?

Seems changes were made without thinking through the "why should it be changed?" or "why shouldn't it be changed?" questions.

i agree with all of the above.

Sometimes it's not worth upgrading things that are already working the way a user base is satisfied with.

 
I really hate the nav bar at the top for the FBGs site.  I've already hit "home" a number of times forgetting that it is going to take me out of the forums.

Just put a link to the main site, instead of the full navbar.  I do subscribe to FBGs mostly to help pay for the upkeep of the forums, which I do use a lot... but I don't really want to visit the home site all that often...

Ironic (maybe not the right word) since the previous version it was nearly impossible to get from the forums to the main site.

I am old enough to remember New Coke. For those of you who are too young, Coke made an ill-advised decision to change its formula that people had loved for generations. The backlash was strong and immediate. People turned away from Coke in droves, promising to buy the product again. Fortunately, Coke recognized the error of its ways before it was too late and brought back the original formula under the moniker Coca-Cola Classic, saving the iconic company from certain demise.

I for one remember being very grateful for Coke’s decision to return to its old ways. While there were other cola options, none of them could ever really take the original’s place. Of course if it came down to a choice between New Coke and Pepsi, I would have become a Pepsi drinker…I shudder thinking about it.

It didn't set me up to get email notifications.  Did you have them turned on before the upgrade?   What have you got set in the notification options part of your account settings?  https://forums.footballguys.com/forum/notifications/options/

Mobile versions of sites are a thing of the past.  Responsive is the new standard and that's what they did here.  One code base and one UI to fit all screens no matter what device you are on.   Deal with it.

Yeah, I don't know about others, but on an iphone 6+, any thread with multiple nested quotes basically is unreadable.

I also don't like the circle profile picks.  Sepp's memory deserves better.
