As a pats fan, I can't wait.

I thought it was a terrific piece.
That he was a relative unknown who overcame perceptions and limited abilites to achieve what he has is a terrific story.
It is still hard to understand how everyone overlooked how well he played at Michigan and no one thought he was worth a draft pick. Did anyone else think it was a little more than spooky that Bradys 1st game was against SF (the team Brady would have killed to play for, the team looking for the next Montana who didn't even consider Brady) and Gino (3rd rd pick) Carmazzi? After that 1 game Mariucci seemed to say that he came to the realization right then that Carmazzi was not the qb they had hoped he would be and on the opposite side NE came away feeling Brady was going to make it.
It is also hard not to feel bad for some of those other QB's like Pennington who just can't stay healthy or Bulger who could very well have enjoyed similar success if only he were in the right situation (and stayed healthy).

I think a lot of the perception around Brady not being that good centers around Drew Henson. Henson got promises from the coaching staff that he would play and play early, so he played even though Brady was clearly a superior QB at the time. Taken from a Michigan board"Brady missed the 2nd quarter in the following games: ND, Rice, Syracuse, Wisconsin, Purdue, MSU and Illinois. He missed the third quarter against MSU and the 4th Quarter against Wisconsin (concussion). He missed the second half against Syracuse.By my count, he missed 11 quarters or almost 3 full games. In 9 1/4 games, he threw for 2586 yards with at 62.3% with 20 TDs and 6 picks in 341 attempts. (1.75% interception percentage)He averaged 279.6 yards per four quarters of football, and 2.16 TDs per game. He led comeback or game-winning drives against ND, Indiana, Penn State and Ohio State in the 4th quarter and carried the team back against Alabama. His rally against MSU was just short. To sum up, Brady led game-winning (or tying, see Alabama) drives in the 4th quarter in half of Michigan's wins."Now I fully believe that if Henson had stuck with football he would have been the #1 pick instead of David Carr and a future pro bowler, but I think that whole situation is what led to Brady's stock being dropped.
Yeah, the main problem seemed to be how he was perceived, His coaches at michigan really screwed up his draft stock because NFL ppl were thinking "if he's so good why were the coaches trying to replace him." Even BB sounded like that affected the pats coaching staff as well, fortunately for them Brady kept falling so eventually they were willing to take the risk.

Good info, and it is all the more bewildering why after having performed so well against strong competition he was almost completely overlooked.

The real shocker was Cleveland Browns picking Spergon Wynn in the 6th Round (pick 183) before Brady. Wynn played at a low level school, Southwest Texas State and only compelted 47% of his passes. It was funny seeing the clip of the draft on ESPN with Mel Kiper and Ron Jaworski, they just threw their papers in the air and didn't know what to say.

I'm sure this was another case of people scratching their heads as to why Belichick would draft a QB at all after just extending Bledsoe with a huge contract.
I actually think that Brady falling to the 6th rd was good for him as it became huge motivation for him to become great.
... and it's a good thing Brady was drafted because I think he would have been a terrible insurance salesman.
