Basically accusses Kraft of promising Brady money after he retires in exchange for taking this deal, sorta mentioning in a throwaway paragraph at the end "oh well yeah, maybe it's just that his wife is a billionaire too."Teams, agents wonder about Brady deal. Two articles banging on the point that Brady didn't take a pay "cut" even though nobody is really saying that - he renegotiated 3 additional years to his contract at way lower prices than he could have easily demanded. No, that's not a "cut," but that doesn't stop Florio from killing the strawmen anyway.http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/02/26/tom-brady-gets-30-million-to-sign/http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/02/26/teams-agents-wonder-about-brady-deal/'The Comedian said:Man, Florio is super pissed off about this contract, lol.link or gtfo
You may have noticed that Mike Florio is extremely stupid.
He's a soon to be 36 year old QB who is guaranteed $48M. HOF'er or not that's a lot of money for a QB his age. Nothing questionable from his POV at all.Basically accusses Kraft of promising Brady money after he retires in exchange for taking this deal, sorta mentioning in a throwaway paragraph at the end "oh well yeah, maybe it's just that his wife is a billionaire too."Teams, agents wonder about Brady deal. Two articles banging on the point that Brady didn't take a pay "cut" even though nobody is really saying that - he renegotiated 3 additional years to his contract at way lower prices than he could have easily demanded. Either he wants to play or he doesn't, he's not going to play games like that.'GroveDiesel said:Of course he has negotiating power, unless you think the Patriots will have a good replacement for him in 2 years. Brady will be 38 and still married to his supermodel wife. But maybe an extra $10-20M could persuade him not to retire to a life of jetsetting from glamorous home to glamorous home while rogering his gorgeous wife and play for a couple more years.Or maybe he'll go relax on some beach somewhere with his family while the Patriots beg Brian Hoyer to come back and start for them.'cstu said:Why would they do that? He'll have no negotiating power with 3 years left on his deal.'GroveDiesel said:Brady will average $22M a year over the next 2 years. His cap number dropped but his actual pay went up over the next 2 years.
I'm with Pete Prisco: In 2 years, if Brady is still performing at a high level, the Pats will quietly pay him more money but he'll still keep his reputation as the white knight of the NFL that so generously turned down more money to help the team.
You see? Leverage.
Yeah so which is it - either he didn't do the Patriots a favor and took a fair deal or his deal is so suspiciously low that it implies an illegal handshake deal between Kraft and Brady for a pay day after he retires? Florio seems to be arguing...both.He's a soon to be 36 year old QB who is guaranteed $48M. HOF'er or not that's a lot of money for a QB his age. better check on thatYes.The extension is guaranteed money?
The first two years are fully guaranteed. The extension is guaranteed for injury. If he is on the roster the last week of the regular season in 2014, the other 3 years also become fully guaranteed. What do you think the odds are that Brady is not on the Patriot roster in Week 17 in two years?better check on thatYes.The extension is guaranteed money?
well, the way people are talking about these aging qb's, I figure he'll suck in 2 yrs.'GroveDiesel said:The first two years are fully guaranteed. The extension is guaranteed for injury. I'll have to read this as your implication that there is zero chance they will part ways with brady during the next 2 years, regardless of this deal they just signed.if that's the case, what difference does it make if this money is guaranteed, or isn't?since you seem to think he's guaranteed to be on the roster.were you making the case that maybe if it weren't guaranteed money they would ask him to take a pay cut down to 5m/yr?you'd think the brady haters would just be content with the goat pic'GroveDiesel said:The first two years are fully guaranteed. I don't think I can help you.I think a real saint would've demanded 20m/yr and given every penny of it to lepers --- I'm not sure what your point is.
