oh yeah, there's been all kinds of speculation about this extension and maybe kraft gets hima piece of the team, or something, down the road, ever since brady started building that house in kraft's neighborhood after he already had the estate.we'll see --- I don't need to figure out what they're going to do 3 years fromnow.I just want to find out who they spend the $$$ on so we can get this party started!

The first two years are fully guaranteed. The extension is guaranteed for injury. If he is on the roster the last week of the regular season in 2014, the other 3 years also become fully guaranteed.What do you think the odds are that Brady is not on the Patriot roster in Week 17 in two years?

I'll have to read this as your implication that there is zero chance they will part ways with brady during the next 2 years, regardless of this deal they just signed.if that's the case, what difference does it make if this money is guaranteed, or isn't?since you seem to think he's guaranteed to be on the roster.were you making the case that maybe if it weren't guaranteed money they would ask him to take a pay cut down to 5m/yr?you'd think the brady haters would just be content with the goat pic'GroveDiesel said:

The bottom line here is that no, Brady is not a saint. Those who said that when the story broke were incorrect.NO, he did not take a pay cut.YES he did the Patriots a favor. In order to create cap space, they had to extend him. He would have been very reasonable to agree to an extension, but to add the new years at the going market rate, which is around $20 million. He didn't. He took a lot less than his market value is right now, and he did not have to do that. Without this extension, he's a free agent around the age that Peyton Manning just was, and look at all the hype and demand there was for him after having a freaking neck problem. Brady has given that up. It's not a pay cut, but it is a sacrifice, and a concession. The money in the last three years is guaranteed for injury, and will probably end up being full guaranteed as well, but "salary" is not as meaningless for QB's as it is for some players. He likely would have gotten whatever salary he negotiated in this deal anyway.So, it's a concession, a team move, but no, he didn't take a pay cut in the short-term (actually got an extra $3 million short-term). It also helps Brady that the Patriots have more cap room, assuming they spend it and spend it wisely.Win for the Patriots, win for Brady. I don't think most guys do it, particularly Manning who I think is the most applicable comparison, but it's well short of sainthood.
