Branden Oliver (1 Viewer)

They get Oakland next week. Pretty ideal matchup if Brown, Woodhead, and Mathews are all still out.

I traded this guy for a 2015 devy pick (one round) even though I liked him because the value just seemed too good.

Might have been a mistake.

WOW. Think we found 2014 waiver wire pick up the year. Congrats to all of you who were smart enough to grab him.

LOL. Wow. Stuff like this is why I keep coming back to FF every year despite all the BS injuries and disappointing players that make it a constant grind.

Today is one of those performances where you get to feel good about yourself. You watch this guy, you see the talent, but you know that it's going to be a waiting game to see if he gets that chance to produce. When it happens, it makes things so sweet.

Last year I felt that way about Andre Ellington...I'm really hoping that Oliver has just become that guy for 2014.

Thanks for the fyi, EBF. Kid looks special to my eyes. I just watched the 30 min condensed version of the whole game and he was the best looking RB in the game. Granted, he was playing against the 2s, but he was the best player out there with the 2s, imo. Joseph Randle looked good too, but this Oliver kid had the "IT" factor. Again, thanks. Never heard of him until tonight.
Glad this thread was started and glad I grabbed Oliver where I could. Will be interesting once Matthews returns. I never liked Matthews, we'll see what the SDC coaching staff thinks.

I think Oliver is just getting rested a bit at this point. I'm curious about what happened to Brown. Was he just benched?

When I saw this topic with a lot of life tonight, I feared the worst. Looks like I've missed out on another waiver wire back who could've helped the black hole that is my #2 RB slot (thanks Reggie Bush). I have the 2nd lowest priority on waiver order.

Oliver will still have enormous value being the sproles Woodhead role

Those "smart" enough to grab him probably have horrible teams that needed a desperation play.
Not necessarily. A lot of people that grabbed him in dynasty were noting that ryans is in the last year of his deal. Personally, I thought he reminded me of mjd a little, but the sproles similarities are much more than I would have thought.

Today once again proved a hard lesson tht a long time fantasy vet like me never seems to learn--don't hang onto your underperformers too long. I had been thinking of grabbing this guy and Odell Beckham, hesitated, and now looks like this coming week that door has shut (I'm number 10 in the waiver wire order). Maybe I should grab Storm Johnson.

I wouldn't beat yourself up too much over that. I probably would've accepted something like that a week ago if anyone had offered.

Now though?

Only one game, but this kid looks like some sick hybrid of vintage Ray Rice, Sproles, and MJD. Check out the stiff arm on the 52 yard run:

My bad, I guess the leagues I play in are weird and let everyone pick up players from the waiver wire, not just the horrible desperate teams. Now if you meant "teams who started Oliver today" then I'll agree with your point. Either way I missed this train, back to the Patterson thread.

I was so close to starting him in a league this week over Gerhart (injuries and bye weeks forced my hand)... But took the chance on Gerhart falling into a touchdown.

I won anyway, but man, that 30 point increase would have been nice for the total points tiebreaker.

IDK...Jets were bad. This guy wasn't exactly shining prior to this game. He's not owned in my league, so I'll put in for him, but not totally sold.

What happens when Mathews comes back?
Hopefully he takes a back seat to Oliver. If not Matthews is an often injured person.
I wouldn't think Matthews takes a back seat but you're right in that he is dinged up a lot.

But what I would think in. My mind is that Matthews is in the final year of his contract and the chargers played woodhead enough to be very fantasy relevant last year and Oliver could fill that role

Could be alot of point chasing this week, but now teams have some tape on him. We'll see, but at least they may have a good rb with Mathews out.

Today was likely the best game Oliver will ever have (2 TDs, 2 50+ yard plays). The Jets defense was gassed due to the heat (well over 100 on the field) and the Chargers' time of possession, plus multiple in game injuries on defense.

I expect when Mathews returns, he will assume the lead back role and Oliver will assume the Woodhead role. (And Brown will resume his minimal role.)
