Breaking Bad on AMC (1 Viewer)

After re-watching some of these episodes during the marathon I think that I might enjoy it more watching the entire series from start to finish the second time.
Just skip the Fly episode. I love this show and think it's brilliant. But when watching it with my GF to catch her up, I remember even apologizing ahead of time for that episode. Maybe it was too deep for me to understand? I don't know. But it seemed like they didn't just pump the brakes with that episode. The flat out pulled the emergency brake.
Yes, you do.
Did you seriously like that episode?

It was very slow and not that good. To me, anyway.
I really like that episode. The writing and acting is top notch. Maybe I'm just an emotional little girl though.

So this final episode is getting huge hype (deservedly) and the ratings are growing by the week. How many people are going to watch this finale and it's the only Breaking Bad episode they've ever seen?

You know it's going to happen and you know a bunch of people are going to say "Meh, I don't get the hype, it wasn't that great". Kind of like the guy who shows up at the Super Bowl party and watches just 1 football game a year, the Super Bowl. Then he proceeds to start talking junk because he happens to be from the same city as the winning team.

This has always nonplussed me. When a finale is the most watched episode of a series. I get it now with Netflix, but it's always been like this. Who decides, "The last episode ever? This might be a good time to start watching to see how I like it."

Survey says....... DING!

That's the number one answer on the board!

Sometimes it's people who started watching early, gave up, and now return just to see how it ends.

Other times, it's people who watched on DVD/Netflix and are finally caught up to watch live.

Occasionally, it's people who tape/DVR/save episodes and watch them more than 7 days later, only now for the finale they watch immediately. DVR views outside of 7 days aren't captured in ratings. Episodes recorded but not watched in the next few hours won't show up on the next morning's ratings. So anyone who usually DVRs on a Sunday but doesn't watch until Monday AM or after won't be in the overnight ratings. But if they watch the finale right away this one time, they will.

That's not the same as "Who decides, "The last episode ever? This might be a good time to start watching to see how I like it.""

They put a lot of time into writing these episodes - 12 days, time lapse

can't figure out what is going on with the playdoh which starts on the lower left corner of the conference table.

Close up of board for all of the :nerd: 's
A guy I worked with once said being a TV writer is like taking a 10-hour plane flight. Every day. You're in an uncomfortable chair, next to some guy you may not even like, not much to look at, and if you're nice, maybe someone will bring you a meal.

Maybe you guys have already discussed this, but I just listed to a Simmons b.s. podcast where he poses this question to the guy he was talking to: "If AMC decided to run the Breaking Bad season finale this Friday on pay-per-view for $49.95, but still ran the finale per usual on Sunday for free, would you buy the ppv or would you wait?"

Guy he was talking to said without hesitation that he would buy it. He would be mad at himself for doing it, but he wouldn't want to risk anyone spoiling it for him before he watched it on Sunday. Simmons agreed he would too.

Don't know if I would, but I would be tempted. If I decided to wait I'd have to go on a full technological blackout until Sunday.

$50? no.

But I probably wouldn't spend $5 to watch it 2 days early either.

I wouldn't pay.

But it wouldn't take much of a technological blackout for me to keep from getting spoiled. I don't go on twitter or facebook much. Never go on reddit. The only reason to go to avclub or hitfix during the weekend would be for the BB review. Staying away for 48 hours wouldn't be a hardship.

I only know a couple people in RL that watch it. I could stop spoilers with a quick text.

Most importantly, I just like watching BB on Sunday nights. I wouldn't want to pay money to take away the last Sunday night to watch BB.

I probably would so long as I could get a few friends to ante up and have them show the Talking Bad afterwards as well. Mostly because I don't want to miss the Patriots game on Sunday night and I don't have a DVR (DirecTV expects you to pay some absurd amount for the receiver and it is not worth it to me).

I wouldn't pay. I can easily afford it, but I still wouldn't.

And it is easy for a guy like Simmons, who probably makes well into six figures a year, to say that.

I can wait to download the torrent an hour later.

i'd pay, not tell the thread then come here and spoil it but as a prediction, then quote my post after it airs on Sunday and enjoy my FFA fame.

Prior to DVRs, most TV series weren't the sort that you have to watch every episode to follow. Ratings boosts for a finale probably didn't come from new people watching a show for the first time, but from all the semi-regular viewers tuning in on the same night.

So this final episode is getting huge hype (deservedly) and the ratings are growing by the week. How many people are going to watch this finale and it's the only Breaking Bad episode they've ever seen?
This is an interesting question because the way shows are today, especially BB, people watch every single episode or don't watch it at all. I know very few people who have only seen a few episodes of BB.

So with that, how can the finale bring a much larger audience? The BB audience has got to be the most stable episode-to-episode audience ever.

Now watch the finale break records...

previous to Skyler's Marilyn Monroe Happy Birthday impersonation:

[referring to the last time she performed the song for Ted]

Skyler: "That was ages ago"

Skyler: "I don't look anything like the last time I sang it."

Also in a previous episode she tells Walt the reason she originally quit was due to the fumes (possibly when she was pregnant with Flynn??) in the warehouse and Walt reminds her of why she shouldn't go back to work there with the baby so she explains (while not looking at Walt) the reason she can go back to work there now was because Beneke's warehouse is now green and they have green-fumes or something along those lines which sounded like a lie.

I really like that episode. The writing and acting is top notch. Maybe I'm just an emotional little girl though.
To me personally, the fly episode stands out as being the one and only clunker in this series. Lots of great television series have a few below-par episodes. The Columbus Day episode of The Sopranos, and the one with JFK's hat, are both atrocious. The fly episode isn't as bad as either of those, but the pacing is just way, way off, which turns it into an uncharacteristic snoozer.

I just really disagree and think Fly was a good and important episode. Its director, Rian Johnson directed 3 episodes, including that one. The other 2; Fifty-One and Ozymandias (also the movie Looper)

:lmao:
You really don't think he gets paid well by ESPN to be one of their NBA post-game analysts, as well as the occasional fill-in on PTI? Combine that with what he makes as a writer and I am sure he does really well.

I think he's laughing because Bill probably makes 7 figures.

Favorite random moments in the show:

After Jesse lets the battery in the RV die, he demands that Walt invent some smart person solution. Like some kind of fuel, or use the parts from the RV to make a dunebuggy, or build a robot, or a battery. Walt sits up straight and Jesse excitedly asks what he thought of. Walt - "You said it yourself..." Jesse (in an awed voice) "A robot?"

Badger doing anything. The star trek conversation got a lot of play, but him wearing that dollar bill costume at the job jesse had applied for, and hitting himself in the head while explaining how there were all these complicated moves you had to do with the savings arrow like the helicopter was a great setup for the scene where Jesse threw out the second bad batch of meth they had cooked together, they fight, and Badger picks him up and spins him yelling "helicopter, #####".

Worst random moment in the show - a not that far post pregnancy and still married Skylar doing happy birthday mr president for ted with a crowd of officepeople applauding, for what is apparently not the first time.

The whole Skylar and Ted at the office thing was weird.

Really enjoyed the RV scene with HAnk outside and the junkyard guy.

There were a couple great scenes like that. Junkyard guy ruled.

Hector ####ting himself at the DEA's was pretty awesome, especially once you find out the backstory. That will be a favorite scene for people who rewatch the show.

Seeing the end of Season 2 again makes you feel a lot less bad for Jesse given his current predicament as we head towards the finale. Recapping just the final three of Season 2 alone:

-Showed up high and late to the meeting with Gus, causing Gus to skip even meeting Jesse and Walt.

-After Walt salvaged the deal, Jesse was so zonked out on heroin that he almost caused them to miss out on the 1.2 million dollar deal.

-He allowed Jane to blackmail Walt for the money, by allowing her to threaten him with being outed to the cops and the media.

Well done, Jesse. Always the screw-up.

Jesse is my favorite Breaking Bald character. And his singing is not bad.

Him and Skylar were neck and neck for who I wanted dead. Love their acting but hated their characters

Can someone give me a review of the whole series? Dude is a science teacher with inoperable lung cancer who turns meth dealer, right? What else?
He's really more like walking Ebola wherein most anyone that comes in contact with him dies a painful death and/or lives in an earthen hell. But you were close.
Ebola? Is that that disease on the Discovery Channel?

Actually, he's an amazing liar. Except to Skylar. Then he becomes an idiot.
He was a pretty poor liar to the Native American in the pilot. I think Walter White was a terrible liar in general, but Heisenberg got very good at lying. Whenever he tried to lie to Skyler, though, he became Walter White again.

Re-watching the first few episodes again, there's an awful lot I don't really remember from the first time around. Like all those Low Winter Sun ads.
