Breaking News - Terrell Owens Rushed to local hospital (1 Viewer)

I believe TO is capable of Career Suicide, but not actual Suicide.

...while I don't think Suicide is a laughing matter I just have to ask...

Does this make his new Nickname TOD ??? :lmao:

Terrell Owens just returned to his condo in Deep Ellum. Owens arrived in a black Cadillac Escalade driven by an unidentified woman. There were two other people in the back seat.

this means we assessed to not be a current danger to himself and presented no symptoms or behaviors warranting him being held against his will for psychiatric observationIn other words, the doctors and assessors believe his story and no medical evidence to contradict.

Basically you have TO and the publisist saying the same thing and no evidence to contradict the claim, medically or otherwise.
Hi PB,Do we know if Texas has the 72 hour rule on suicide attempts? And if so, how strictly it's enforced?

J
hey joe-as an internist, i am quite familiar with having to admit and observe patients who attempt suicide. usually they are immediately placed on a 72 hour hold (or 5150 which is the legal code). anyone who is deemed a danger to themselves, a danger to others or gravely disabled (i.e. cannot provide food clothing or shelter for themselves) can be placed on one of these holds. a common misconception is that once the hold is started it cannot be revoked. in fact, any physician can terminate the 72 hold at any time once it is believed that the patient is no longer considered a danger to themselves or others or gravely disabled.

i suspect texas is no different than california (wow! i can't believe i just said that). if TO was discharged from the hospital, then the hold has been lifted and he is free to act as any citizen with with civil liberities intact.
Red,I said this about four pages back, but it got lost. Fact is nothing supports this as a suicide attempt. if it was he would have been put on a 72 hour hold. And if this was a Vicodin overdose (which is what was reported), vicodin contains acetomenophin(tylenol). For Tylenol overdoses there is a risk of liver failure and patients are usually observed for a much longer period of time (although he supposedly had his stomach pumped and they can check Tylenol blood levels).
true.i was just commenting on the 72 hour hold issue. had TO truly taken 30+ vicodin pills that would be ~15 grams of tylenol (4 x the maximum daily dose). he would required gastric lavage (stomach pumping) and either 17 courses of medicine ~ every couple of hours to hopefully prevent the liver toxicity. there is an IV form which can be infused over a total of 18 hours or so. so, had he OD on vicodin, he would mostly likely have stayed 2 nights in the hospital as the doctors would be monitoring his liver tests, giving him the medicine and observing his clinical condition....

FWIW: i wonder if the guy was just a bit delerious and answered the cops the way he did while in a delerious state.
That's the claim of his publicist, along with the environment at the scene with lots of people talking at once.

So with the background laid, I feel this "suicide attempt" was either a major cry for help or a publicity stunt.
Anyone committing suicide as a publicity stunt is by definition begging for help. I really dont buy the publicity angle as very likely at all. The upcoming Philly game is the biggest spotlight in the NFL already- thats why im leery about this whole report. The guy has something to live for- everything indicate he's been obsessed with that game. Obviously this is an issue far bigger than football, but it just seems really weird that he would try to kill himself now. If he's a manic-depressive he should be riding a huge high the next few weeks- he's set up to have a huge superman-like comeback against his former team. Im not claiming to be an expert or certainly have any inside TO knowledge, but this just doesnt seem to fit. Im still very open minded that the cops may have misunderstood what they were seeing- young healthy guys dont often fish out on their meds, they may have been assuming suicide attempt and read into the situation what they expected to find. Im just saying its plausible.

Cowboys haven't eliminated the possibility he could practice tomorrow and play this week(ESPN)

That is exactly right. If the police report we've seen was at all accurate, there is no way he would have been released today. None.

As a very collateral side note, threads like this are good because you can really dope out who the quality posters are.
this is not accurate, it is very possible that if that report is accurate, that he would be released. he would have been assessed by a mental health professional and physician to not be an immediate danger to self/ not holdable, and thus discharged. Given the claims by TO, his reported affect/demeanor and such, from what I hear, even with those events as accurate I can see him being discharged. I could also see how he could be "held" going by the general "psychiatric hold" laws not knowing what they are in texas.
No. As terrified as physicians and hospitals are of malpractice suits these days, there is no way they would release someone who, the night before, supposedly downed 35 pills and said he was trying to hurt himself. That goes for an ordinary citizen. Now, multiply that by the fact that this is a high-profile athlete whose every move commands boundless media attention, and whose multimillion dollar estate would have quite the wrongful death cause of action against anyone who released him too early, if he went out and hurt himself again. The Cowboys would have a lawsuit as well. No chance the police report was accurate as to those details. None.

Deep down TO just wants a Daddy. I'd bet a million dollars he comes from a single home. He has everything he could want in life. But the fact he can't have that is what drives him to be the baby he is.

If T.O wants, I can give him some more meds. I'm a part-time pharmacist...I would be more than willing to help him out...just so I don't have to hear anymore crap spewing from his mouth.

Yes, this was reported and dealt with. Stuff like this will get your account suspended. No need to keep bumping it by quoting it anymore.

Just got back from working out.

Not to say I told you so, but I told you so about 10-12 pages back there when everyone was in hysterics.

Media sensationalism. Its about ratings and selling papers. Amazing how these guys get aways with it sometimes. And this with something we all found out the truth about - now start thinking about all the non-high profile cases that they never have to answer for misreporting. Simply irresponsible.

Peace.out.

Deion Sanders has spoken with TO and he seems very confident that this was not a suicide attempt. In fact TO was laughing at the rumors, and he seemed to be in very good spirits.

God Bless.

Deion is on NFL Network now, and has been talking for the last 10 minutes.

Kim Etheridge seems to have overreacted.

Couple mentions of being afraid TO wasn't like Anna Nicole Smith again, I have no clue what that means or if this woman was Anna's publicist.

Anyone?

Anna attempt suicide?

I dont know how much is sensationalism and how much is desire to be the first out of the gate with the story. Look at us falling over ourselves, hammering away at keys and links trying to be the first guy to find and report news on a FF website. These news outlets have something riding on being the place people go for news first. Provided they dont say its confirmed and thats its "speculation" at this time, they keep themselves out of trouble and keep US tuned in waiting with bated breath.

Michael Irvin claims he said he took too many supplements and that combined with the pain killer cause a reaction

I agree and disagree. They all want to be first, but they all first have the responsibility of being accurate. Sensationalism happens where the facts end and the specualation begins. And that began very early this morning with most of the news stations.

Interesting that the major media (webpages at least, from what I've seen) have seemingly refused to recant the "attempted suicide" headlines.

People keep calling the police report into question, but it seemed to me like it just stated facts. There was an empty prescription bottle and someone told them he had only taken 5 before. Everyone is acting like the police report said he swallowed 35 pills(I will agree that there is an implication of attempted suicide in the report, but it could still be factual without Owens having attempted suicide). For all we know the rest could be in a pill box somewhere, or he disposed of them when he found out he was allergic, or the person who said he only took 5 before that night was mistaken, or any number of scenarios that don't involve suicide. The only real concerning thing about the police report is that he tried to take 2 more pills while the police were there. It's still all speculation at this point.

i noticed that too. i think if TO steps to the podium and denies it they have to at least change the headline a little.

It seems to me RP in the police report means Reporting Party or something like that, and is referring to his publicist, not Responding Paramedic. If so, he was trying to take those 2 pills when she was there, not when the police were there.

Doesn't the police report state that the he put a couple of more pills in his mouth after his friend tried to dislodge the others?

Page 2 of the report should at least look official for anyone to honestly believe it for starters. I can write that up on my personal pc, doesn't mean it's correct.

they just had blurb from Deion on Sirius who actually spoke with TO and TO was laughing at the reports of a suicide attempt. He'll have press conference later today. Look at MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
Maybe he just wants to clear the air, if the whole country thought you tried to commit suicide when you didn't, wouldn't you want to clear the air?
