If your athlete was involved in one of the biggest news stories of the year wouldn't you want to get your air time too?[hijack]I am not a professional athlete nor have I had a sports agent but I am puzzled by Rosenhaus. And does he do this for all of his clients or just T.O. because Drew craves media attention just as much as Ownes craves it? I'm just asking.[/hijack]Drew Rosenhaus arrives

Very, very well done. It's too bad that people LOVE this kind of thing, it diverts from their troubles; and that seams to make them happy in many cases.I hope he didn't attempt suicide, because that would be sad. I also hope he does play football, because he is fun to watch.I also hope whatever the trouble may be, he works it out for his well being...To quote Don Henley:I make my living off the evening newsJust give me something-something I can usePeople love it when you lose,They love dirty laundryWe got the bubble-headed-bleach-blonde whoComes on at fiveShe can tell you bout the plane crash with a gleamIn her eyeIts interesting when people die-Give us dirty laundryCan we film the operation? this is not true. a 72 hour hold in this instance implies that TO is a danger to himself. by placing a hold on him, the hospital or state is essentially removing his civil rights. it IS a form of incarceration as he cannot leave the hospital and will ordinarily have a nurse or someone sitting by his beside under 24 hour watch. it takes a LOT to continue a hold beyond 72 hours (the courts get involved, hearings begin as hospitals pursue temporary conservatorship). however, once a physician deems that a hold is no longer necessary, the hold can be terminated (often after just 24 hours of observation...i.e. less than the 72 hour hold). once the hold is terminated, the patient is granted all his rights afforded him by our government...in other words, there is no mandate for continued observation, house arrest, or close medical supervision. it is up to the individual, his physician(s) and family to continue to provide the help and support he needs to avoid any further danger to himself. There are ways around the 72 hour "rule" even in confirmed suicide attempts. They are just not released on their own recognizance. But if you have a nurse present and promise that the person will be under observation at all times for the next few days it would usually suffice.
he will only be wearing his hospital gown and will be doing situps in the parking lot but he will field any and all questions. From Todd Archer ...The Cowboys announced that T.O. will be making a statement at his condo within 45 minutes.
In this thread, the way we're getting mixed news, you have to be pretty special if you can weed out most ignorant from ...well ignorant.WOW. Most ignorant post I've seen so far, and while I know that mayn have been removed and I may not have seen all of them, that's STILL saying something. Well done!Who would be stupid enough to take 30+ pills? Definitely a way to get attention or TO was too stupid thinking that taking more will get him back on the field faster. Maybe the boy is mentally unstable. Either way he will be a big BUST this year.
Pretty typical situation for a suicidal gesture to be denied and played off as an accident by the attempter. Just FYIthey just had blurb from Deion on Sirius who actually spoke with TO and TO was laughing at the reports of a suicide attempt. He'll have press conference later today. Look at MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
if it was an actual suicide attempt (trust me, I have a little knowledge in the procedures here (not for myself)), he would be forced to undergo psychiatric evaluation EVEN IF he was no longer a dange to himself at the moment.... It doesn't matter once you try to kill yourself and get taken to the hospital you are under police costudy and have a trial a few days later and stuff and they make you get psychiatric treatment no matter what...if he is out and going home he didn't commit suicide (or Jerry Jones pulled some strings)this means we assessed to not be a current danger to himself and presented no symptoms or behaviors warranting him being held against his will for psychiatric observationIn other words, the doctors and assessors believe his story and no medical evidence to contradict.WR Owens returns home after hospital release

DO IT!what time specifically? maybe I'll drive down there since its about 2 minutes away...From Todd Archer ...The Cowboys announced that T.O. will be making a statement at his condo within 45 minutes.
This is what happens in cases like this. No way should anything go out the door until approved, nobody makes a statement until content approved. You probably had the determination and initial investigation made by a 25 yr old kid with barely an associates degree. No offense to cops, but the street guy doesnt think about this kinda stuff. He could make a mistake, judge the situation wrong, think he's cool because its TO and wants to make him look worse than he is, and any number of other things that come back to haunt the department. If its the real deal, someone likely leaked that sucker without approval. The DPD is distancing itself from the report as fast as it can. Period. Its the way it should be. PD was first reponder, will have to make an entry regarding their response, and if determined it is not a police matter, they may not even file a more formal report. I see it all the time. I try to track down a report and discover that the only record in existence is the response report. If there are no criminal charges to be filed, there is no reason for further. The report I read only contains statement given to the responding officers by the reporting party (unclear if the RP is the woman or the EMT). One area is unclear regarding whether the statements were made by the reporting party or the complainant (TO). Regardless, they are a record of what was said to the responding officer. There is no interpretation of the facts listed in the narrative. They reported what they were told at the scene. No more, no less. The police position is likely stating the obvious, that this is not a police matter so don't ask us about any of this mess because we just came to the scene like we were asked to do and wrote some stuff down like we are required to do...nothing more, nothing less. Translation: Regardless of what happened, this is a medical issue and not a police issue, ask the medical folks.Translation: our inexperienced responding officer misinterpreted the situation, filed a report that needlessly contained severe inaccuracies instead of just stating the KNOWN facts as such reports are supposed to do (that's why they have detectives who follow up), touched off a media firestorm, has enormous legal implications, and now we are backing away as fast as our legs will carry us.More facts.....RECAP: Dallas Police Briefing... ::EDITED:: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Police PCHow this information got out, we don't know. The official statement is that we WILL NOT have any further investigation on this matter. Anything more you need to know, will have to be obtained from Mr. Owens or the medical staff. We are not confirming or denying anything.I will not speculate on what happened. If you want the 911 tape you will have to make the request to the Fire Department. They are the keeper of the tapes. We are not persuing this as a criminal offense.I will not comment on the validity of the document (police report) you have. That's all.
I think the fact Rosenhaus showed up so quickly gives a little more factual evidence to the "TO tried to commit suicide" reports. Thanks red,Can you shed any light on how much info the hospital will release with all the privacy laws?hey joe-as an internist, i am quite familiar with having to admit and observe patients who attempt suicide. usually they are immediately placed on a 72 hour hold (or 5150 which is the legal code). anyone who is deemed a danger to themselves, a danger to others or gravely disabled (i.e. cannot provide food clothing or shelter for themselves) can be placed on one of these holds. a common misconception is that once the hold is started it cannot be revoked. in fact, any physician can terminate the 72 hold at any time once it is believed that the patient is no longer considered a danger to themselves or others or gravely disabled.Hi PB,Do we know if Texas has the 72 hour rule on suicide attempts? It isn't T.O.'s fault if the police and media got things wrong. very profoundif he is out and going home he didn't commit suicide
true.i was just commenting on the 72 hour hold issue. had TO truly taken 30+ vicodin pills that would be ~15 grams of tylenol (4 x the maximum daily dose). he would required gastric lavage (stomach pumping) and either 17 courses of medicine ~ every couple of hours to hopefully prevent the liver toxicity. there is an IV form which can be infused over a total of 18 hours or so. so, had he OD on vicodin, he would mostly likely have stayed 2 nights in the hospital as the doctors would be monitoring his liver tests, giving him the medicine and observing his clinical condition....Red,I said this about four pages back, but it got lost. Fact is nothing supports this as a suicide attempt. if it was he would have been put on a 72 hour hold. And if this was a Vicodin overdose (which is what was reported), vicodin contains acetomenophin(tylenol). For Tylenol overdoses there is a risk of liver failure and patients are usually observed for a much longer period of time (although he supposedly had his stomach pumped and they can check Tylenol blood levels).hey joe-as an internist, i am quite familiar with having to admit and observe patients who attempt suicide. usually they are immediately placed on a 72 hour hold (or 5150 which is the legal code). anyone who is deemed a danger to themselves, a danger to others or gravely disabled (i.e. cannot provide food clothing or shelter for themselves) can be placed on one of these holds. a common misconception is that once the hold is started it cannot be revoked. in fact, any physician can terminate the 72 hold at any time once it is believed that the patient is no longer considered a danger to themselves or others or gravely disabled.Hi PB,Do we know if Texas has the 72 hour rule on suicide attempts? When the biggest NFL news story of the season hits, people want to hear from him. When is the last time TO talked by himself? ....next question.I don't doubt your knowledge one bit but it would be good to know if we're talking apples to apples here since states can differ in laws and procedures. I see a few things working here. Coming from a man that has dealt with suicide head on, I think I can speak relatively intelligently about this.
My brother-in-Law had a successful suicide November 5, 2004. He was severely depressed but refused treatment and counseling that was offered repeatedly from both his parents and his sister/my wife. He bought a 9 mm gun, told no one and waited the required 2 weeks for the background check. He had everything planned to the last detail. He pciked up the gun on a Thursday night after work, came home to his parents house, acted like it was a normal day and knew he was going to kill himself the next day. Sure enough, he did not go to work, stayed home, let his parents leave for work, drank a half bottle of Grey Goose and the coroner estimated he shot himself at 10:45 am. He left no note. Only a sticky note attached to his phone with the code to his ATM Card and the code to his cell phone voicemail. He did cut a check to his father for the entire amount he had in his chekcing account and in the memo portion he wrote "no funeral services". With all this said, the fallout the family had to deal with was horrendous and still affects my wife and her family to this day.
So with the background laid, I feel this "suicide attempt" was either a major cry for help or a publicity stunt. Typically men when they are committed to committing suicide do it violently and are usually successful. Women typically use pills and medication to attempt suicide.
I am scratching my head at the reports from the Cowboys website saying that Ownes has already been released from the hospital.
http://www.dallascowboys.com/news.cfm?id=E...D81B6BFB56FE31F
If this was a legit attempt at suicide, by law (in California at least) the patient in question has to spend 72 hours in the psych ward for more observation. I am not sure what the law is in Texas but I would assume it would be standard practice in all states. I am not ruling out that because this is a high profile case and because of his celebrity that might have been waived. (We all know that athletes and celebrities play by their own sets of rules when it comes to laws and protocol. Just look at the court system and they way they treat high profile cases and I do not need to explain further.)
Depression is a big deal for sure. T.O. has shown signs that he is severely depressed and his "look at me" antics from the 49ers, to Philly and now to Big D all show that this guy has some serious issues he needs to work out. Forget the football fans that watch him or the fantasy guys that are living and breathing on how many yards he will get this weekend. I hope he gets better for the sake of the people that are truly close to him. I know how devastating a suicide can be to a family and the wake of damage a suicide leaves behind is almost immeasurable.
Because of his history.Sucks for him if some pee-on cop or media type took the story and ran with it, dragging TO's name through the mud. He wouldn't have created that. But he has fostered a certain type of "TO" reaction whenever his name is brought upBecause of his history? Or related to this specific incident?Probably true. But it's a Catch 22 of his own making. It isn't T.O.'s fault if the police and media got things wrong. What sucks is, the guy can't win either way in this situation.I'm almost afraid to ask this, but what's the perception of TO if this ends up being just ANOTHER "TO being TO" type thing? the hospitals can only state the condition of a patient (i.e. stable, critical, etc). they cannot release specifics unless the patient gives written permission (a signed consent form) or if the records are a matter of public disclosure (as part of a police report). the police report should now be closed as their job was to get him in to the hospital for proper care. so, we'll know only what TO wants us to know and the events that led to his hospitalization, but not the course itself. The simplest way for Owens to clear all this will be for the ER docs to tell what they treated him for. Did they pump his stomach? What did they find? That kind of stuff. Any thoughts there?
