Brian Calhoun - The next Lions' RB? (1 Viewer)

It's quite evident now that Tatum Bell is a waste of space on an NFL team. While watching the Eagles/Lions matchup (via TV), I couldn't believe how bad the Lions running game is.

Yes, it would be different if Kevin Jones was 100% but he isn't and while he did have a TD run, he also did not look too good. However, the one RB who looked decent was Calhoun with 13 yards rushing & 11 yards recieving. If he can catch the ball consistently, he'll do quite well in the Mike Martz pass-happy system if KJ is still feeling the aftereffects of his surgery.

Any takers on Calhoun possibly emerging as the RB1 for Detroit?

like you said, the title of rushing leader in Detroit doesnt mean much . . .

I wouldn't think so. KJ will get in game shape soon enough and be fine. Plus, today's game was so far out of whack that it is hard to use it as a barometer.

Calhoun stinks! I have watched him every game since he has been here.KJ had 3 carries. How bad the rushing game is? When you are down by 28 points early there is no rushing game.

Drafted him in the first round of a Dynasty rookie draft when he came out :lmao: Atleast i traded him for a top 10 QB before he was completely worthless :goodposting:

Got room? Grab Calhoun.
I wouldn't...per bloggerLions Place RB Calhoun On IR, Sign RB CasonNicholas J. Cotsonika, Detroit Free Press - [Full Article]Lions RB Brian Calhoun's season came to end today when the team placed him on the injured reserve list and re-signed RB Aveion Cason.

HA!

I had just traded Calhoun and a '08 3rd rd rookie pick for Paul Posluzney LB BUF

.... then Poz procedes to break his arm the very next game.

justice prevails.

Calhoun is on IR and KJ is going to see more and more carries. Tater will spell him and TJ could become the GL back. I wouldn't put too much faith in him having value in a keeper league either, unless you're a Badger and want to keep him around as a good luck charm.

What in the sam hill happened to Calhoun?

He just up and got placed on IR. What gives?

If it's the same knee he may never make it back. Wondering if he's even worth a roster spot in a deep dynasty league at this point.

ETA:Calhoun goes on injured reserve (Rotoworld) Lions placed RB Brian Calhoun on injured reserve with a knee injury, ending his season.Impact: The extent of Calhoun's new injury wasn't revealed, but he is believed to have re-injured the ACL he tore in practice as a 2006 rookie. Calhoun was never at full strength as a sophomore. He's uncertain to make the Lions in 2008.

Unfortunately I believe it's time to stick a fork in Calhoun. I was once a big believer, but you only get so many chances in the NFL and it looks like they've pretty much run out for him.

Calhoun is a 3rd down back, plain and simple. He's elusive and has nice hands, but he won't gradually sneak up and start stealing carries from KJ ala MBIII to JJ - he's just too small. With Tater locked up through 2008 the Lions have their timeshare established, and even if he comes back from his injury, there is very little reason to believe that he'll do more than play special teams and get a carry here and there. Not sure who's left in your league on the WW, but I wouldn't roster him even in a deep dynasty league at this point.

I like him better than Bell if Jones has a setback or is just not himself for the rest of the year - we pimped him on The Five Minute Drill this week.
This must be the new Madden cover curse.
:goodposting:

Hate to see anyone get hurt so early and so often that they never even get a fair shot to prove themselves in the NFL - that being said, I was ready to give up on Ronald Curry after he tore the same achilles for the 2nd time, so medical science and rehab techniques seem to have advanced enough that we should never completely rule anyone out until they retire.

To Bloom's point, didn't Frank Gore have two ACLs in the same knee too? Maybe there's still hope for Calhoun, but boy, this is a big blow...I had such high hopes for this guy...

Nope, both knees. Same with McGahee, and now Deuce.

Calhoun is just a back-up... forever. Of course he has decent runs when he comes in, that is because the entire defense is thinking pass when he comes on the field. Kevin Jones is the man at Detroit, and it will stay that way.

Why so little info on this? The Lion's website says he "aggravated" the knee. How does one "aggravate" a repaired ACL? I was under the impression a repaired ACL was stronger than a natural ACL. Did he get a hack job or something, or are they just shelving him because KJ is progressing and they have the luxury to wait out his recovery?

I have a source who told me that there is nothing wrong with Calhoun. The Lions just needed a roster spot and didn't want to release him so they IRed him.

A roster spot to sign Cason, a guy they formerly cut to keep Calhoun? I'm not following that.
:goodposting: I guess, as a Calhoun owner, if I want to  , I could potentially see that they're satisfied with KJ's recovery, and depth with Bell, Duckett, and they just want to keep Calhoun fresh for next year, when KJ will be a year older...But when I look at it realistically, I'm with BigJim - doesn't make sense to IR a healthy guy just to sign a lesser player at the same position? (Unless maybe - does Cason play special teams & Calhoun doesn't? Perhaps that could be the lynchpin to this deal?)
