BROWNS THREAD 2009 4 GAME WIN STREAK! (1 Viewer)

Does anybody think James Davis can be a huge fantasy sleeper. I would not expect a top 10 RB, but as a very playable RB2. Really, Jamel Lewis is past his prime, and James Davis has potential.
RB2 would be the maximum upside to expect, and only if Jamal gets hurt or benched.draft him as a RB4 due to the uncertainty. if he splits carries, he may be a halfway decent RB3. but my expectation is that he wont start to really split carries until about game 5 or 6.

Interesting to say the least (trading Anderson or Mangini cooling off on Ratliff?):

Four teams put in waiver claims on QB Kevin O'Connell, a reflection that he had value on the market. Detroit, Denver, Cleveland and the N.Y. Jets put in claims. O'Connell went to Detroit, because the Lions had priority on waiver claims based on their 0-16 record in 2008.

anything is better than ending up with Dorsey starting last year. thank goodness Mangini understands QB depth.

So we put in the claim and then don't play DA or Brady....not risking injury or something fishy is going on?

i didn't know they didn't play. interesting.maybe they are still trying to trade DA?

did i just read in the paper that there are only 52 players on the roster right now?

is this something that normally happens?

I saw that two. the article I read that in said they must have something in the works for them to leave an open slot. :lmao:

You just picked up DeAngelo Smith from the Cowboys.

The 53rd man on the Cowboys' roster is Marvin White, a safety claimed

on waivers from the Bengals.

White (6-1, 205) was a fourth-round pick in 2007 out of TCU. He

started 10 games last season before suffering a torn ACL.

You could consider this a White-for-Roy Williams trade.

In other safety news, Cowboys fifth- rounder DeAngelo Smith was

claimed by the Browns.

I'm not knocking him-I like Smith. He's a project, but there's some talent there. A little humor for you all:

He was beat in a foot race by our kicker during a practice. Mind you our kicker runs a 4.5.

hey thanks for the info. they needed some help at safety.

i didn't know they didn't play. interesting.

maybe they are still trying to trade DA?
One year too late...
It would have been wrong to trade DA last year. The focus isn't about getting the absolute maximum value in a trade for one of these two QBs. Its about trying to determine if one of them is the future franchise QB of the Cleveland Browns. If the Browns spent an extra year or two making sure they get it right, and then wind up getting less in a trade involving the odd-man out, that's a tremendous win for this franchise. They shouldn't rush to trade one of them. They should properly evaluate them.

outside of an injury, i really don't see the Browns letting Lewis go before the season is over.

Peerman is a nice pickup though. i love it when they steal players from the ratbirds.

Couldn't disagree more on most of your points. You're right, it's not just about getting maximum value, it is about getting maximum value when the signs are there and the writing is on the wall. Don't take my "One year too late" comment like I'm just coming to this conclusion. My evaluation on DA was done a long time ago and he's done absolutely nothing to change it. I've been very consistent on the subject around here. Your post is spoken like somebody who still has high hopes for DA. Nothing wrong with that, but I'm sorry, I'm not in that boat and never was. He'll always show flashes because he's a big arm guy, but he won't get over the hump, or near it imo.

6 players have been named to the practice squad, leaving 2 spots still available:

RB Chris Jennings

WR Lance Leggett

OL Pat Murray

DL Brian Schaefering

LB Titus Brown

DB Brandon Anderson

Beau Bell is not likely to fill one of the two remaining spots.

I don't consider my self a fan of either player. I'm a fan of the Browns, and I just want to win.

Glad Jennings and Leggett slipped through, both looked like they have some potential.Love the Peerman pick up too, wonder if that means Harrison's headed to the PUP. I don't see Jamal going anywhere but don't see us holding 4 RB's either. I see Jamal losing touches but would be shocked if he's cut anytime before next offseason.

post your week one predictions here.

here's mine: Brett Favre, only 1 INT, both ADP and Taylor go over 100 yards.

Mangini makes the team run laps during halftime.

Browns lose 27-13.

Brett Favre looks awful, Mangini and Rob Ryan expose him to the tune of 3 INTs. However, Adrian Peterson runs wild, and Jamal Lewis can't crack the Williams bros (they're allowed to play, right?). Brady Quinn dinks and dunks, but is relatively ineffective.

Vikings 17-13. Browns' lone TD comes on an Abram Elam INT return.

Peterson: 200 total yards and a TD.

Anderson was released and they added LB Marcus Benard, OL Corey Hilliard, and DL Keith Grennan who was on the Chargers practice squad last year and was just released September 5th.Vikings 27, Browns 17 but hope it's the opposite.

Browns make Favre look old and confused. Quinn has a good day as does Peterson. Browns trail 17-14 late the in the 4th quarter and have the ball with about 55 seconds left. Unfortunately, Mangini already used up all his timeouts and time runs out before they can score.

Favre picked off for 2 TDs, plus 6 sacks for the Browns. ADP runs wild. Browns 27-24. :crossesfingers:Go BROWNS!
:bag: Might be another long year. On the bright side, when they're down by 3 TDs, at least they're still playing to win - going for it on 4th & 10 and still trying to put points on the board. Hopefully Mangini can turn these guys around and Quinn can get some more accuracy on those throws.Otherwise - Uggh.

so, they have Denver this week. should be a winnable game, especially if they can show the focus they had in the first half against the Vikings.

Denver has a pretty good home record over the years though. should be a pretty close game.

wouldn't be suprised to see Edwards go off.

Jerome Harrison might play today!!! I just want that guy to get his shot so I can get over my man crush or have my man crush validated.

I'm starting to believe that Randy Lerner is a genius. He's put together a team so bad that they go 0-16, which will allow him to justifiably fire his 1st year head coach and replace him with Bill Cowher.

Man, these guys look bad.

I still think we can win 9 games.
what do you mean still? why would you think differently after one week?unless you really thought they were going to beat the Vikings?
I wanted to us in action, there was a lot to be desired but that wasn't a bad team I saw. Minnesota' very, very good, but Cleveland's at worst average.
you still feeling 9 wins? cause i'm not sure i'm sticking with my 6-8 win projection at this point.

didn't he buy a house in Strongsville?

God that game was terrible. I don't even know if I can stand by my 4 win prediction.

This is not a good football team. The most depressing part is that with all the changes we still look as bad as last year. There's not a good excuse for that... I mean, I expected us to lose at least 12 games, but holy hell I thought we would look at little better in doing so this year.

There are some immediate changes that need to be made, the first of which is sitting John St. Claire's ### on the bench. Then the coaching staff has got to start getting creative on the offense somehow... how, I don't know.

At least put a team on the field that isn't going to embarrass us. Go ahead and lose every game, I don't care, but at least play some decent football.

If we keep playing like that we'll be lucky to beat Detroit.

well, they did lose to the Bengals last year. the more things change, huh?

:goodposting: We all watch alot of football. It sickens me, as I'm sure it does you, that our offense is the way it is. For as bad as Dallas looked at times last night, they sure had a few dominating drives where they couldn't be stopped. I'm sure that might not be the best example, but it's the most recent. It's not like it's a new thing with the Browns. Been like this for 10 years besides a few nice offensive spurts. This is not one persons fault, not Brady's fault, not Braylon's fault...it's everyone. Very frustrated right now...

:( Sucks to be a Browns fan right now. My 9 year old is asking me why can't we be fans of a good team, like the Vikings. Such is the life of a Browns fan in MN. :goodposting:

So who are candidates for the Browns to start scouting for the #1 pick next April?
If Braylon's gone, Dez Bryant. I hope they give up on the Cribbs experiment now and let the rooks take their lumps to see what we've got there. If we can make due with Robiskie-Massaquoi-Furrey or other misc. slot/possession WR then Bryant becomes less of a necessity. My hang up being he looks to be the one potential elite WR available in this draft and the best I've seen since Calvin, tough passing that up.If they give up on the QB's, Sam Bradford. I'd be real curious to see what they'd do with DA and Quinn if this happened, but if this season continues as is given how little the coaching staff seemed to have thought of both since getting here I would not be surprised. There aren't any RB's worth that pick, a lot of options available with our 2nd round pick and if we trade Braylon the 1st round pick he'd net. Jonathan Dwyer and Jahvid Best stick out, maybe pair James Davis with his college teammate CJ Spiller? Personally I'd prefer to focus elsewhere, pluck RB's off the scrap heap, and work on upgrading RB after the rest of the team is caught up since it's the shortest transition to the NFL.Haven't really scouted or dug into defensive personnel, but from what little I've read it'd be something to focus on after the top pick.Basically, if I had to say right now, I'd want us to trade Braylon, pick Bryant, and go defense with the pick couped in the Braylon deal and the top pick of round 2.
