Build a FRANCHISE draft (1 Viewer)

You guys are lucky. If ADP or Fitz fell only a couple more spots, you'd all be fighting for second place. The Raiders would be 10 to 1 favorites to win the Super Bowl. Can't believe everyone waited so long on ADP.
Did you really make this comment while you were on the clock and then leave without picking? :wall:
:lmao: no kidding
Haha, I was mis-reading the spreadsheet...thought I was waiting for one more pick before me. Pick will be in very shortly.

2.19 Julio Jones WR

Sorry for the delay...having internet issues at the hotel. I'll try to post commentary later if possible.

2.20 Patriots Select Jimmy Graham, tight end

I wanted someone who would be a difference maker. I think Jimmy Graham fits this as he is difficult matchup.

I'm also trying to target players who have played on a high level for multiple seasons and Graham fits that criteria as well. I don't think you can make or break a franchise with these first few picks, but you can definitely set a franchise back a few years.

I considered defense here, but I think we just hit the end of the major defensive stud tier around 5-10 picks ago.

I considered OLine here. I'm thinking I can get by with a middle of the road OLine because of Eli's pocket presence. Maybe a running back who excels as a blocker in the backfield can help alleviate this potential future issue. Maybe a RB who is good on the screen so we can keep the defense honest with the blitz could also be effective.

I'm starting to think the defense may suffer on this team depending on which way we go with the next few picks. We may need to create schemes to disguise possible defensive efficiencies. I'm not sure which way to go, but I'm thinking depending on how few studs on the defensive side we get, we may play a base cover 2, or we may need to find a few big bodies in front and play a speedy-cb like blitz scheme Rex Ryan uses in NY to create a pass rush.

Cheers! I'm off to bed. Oh, and I'm on the East Coast.

My top guy was sniped right before me again!

2.21 Cincinnati Bengals select Ryan Clady, LT

Clady is the definition of a franchise left tackle. He protected Peyton's backside admirably last season, allowing only 1 sack in 16 games. He's never missed a start and he's only 27.

2.22 Dallas selecs Josh Freeman QB

25 years old, athletic, and with a live arm. Freeman to Megatron 80yd bombs, Dallas is building a passing offense.

2.23 LT Nate Solder

Happy to get a young stud at this position. Excellent run blocker will help Kaepernick. Good start to the offense with these 2.

Very good progress overnight guys!

Very good pace so far.

Just remember keep those PM's going to the next drafter and send lists if out for an extended time.

2.24 RB Trent RichardsonPossibly a little early, but he wouldn't be there at the end of the 3rd for me. The thoughts of Drew Brees with Trent Richardson to keep the defense honest has me salivating. Not to mention he showed elite receiving skills out of the backfield in his rookie year as well.1.9 Drew Brees, QB2.24 Trent Richardson, RBEDIT: I tried to PM next, but his inbox is full apparently.

2.25 Percy Harvin WR Steelers

For the direction I want to go with this offense Harvin is the perfect fit. As soon as I selected Newton I was hoping Harvin would fall to me. Harvin & Newton are tailor made for each other

 had the same thoughts with Wilson and Harvin.

Need someone to watch Flacco's back here. This guy is 24, had a great year and looks like he's coming into his own.

2.27 Chicago Bears - Trent Williams, OT

I have 3 guys I am aiming for and there are 3 picks before me. One has to fall to me... right?
I have one pick before me and one player I want. This has disaster written all over it
You'll probably get your guy...

Really wanted Harvin or Graham here, but I'll take the Receiver who, if he continues to improve and put it all together, will make for an awesome pairing with Russell Wilson:

2.29 Dez Bryant, WR

High risk/high reward.

I think the risk is overblown, Dallas seems to bring out the worst in him. We'll just get a better coach and mentor. Hopefully Wilson's positive traits rub off on him.

Philadelphia eagles round 2 pick # 30 select Mario Williams

A year ago he is going in the first round. After getting off to a slow start last year, he had wrist surgery and his performance reverted back to his usual level of play. He is still young enough to build my defense around and has the versatility, size and athleticism to play in any type of front

My hopes of copying Ian Kenyon's draft have been dashed.

I won't participate, but I'll do the Madden Sim using 2013 if you're all interested.
Hmm, it appears that Madden has removed Fantasy draft from 2013. Well they removed the fantasy draft from "Offline" mode. So you can still fantasy draft, but it has to be in an online league. I started one up last night just to see what it was like, and it will only let you control one team per user. So the only way to do a sim would be for 32 people to log in and all draft for the respective teams, don't see this happening. My next thought was to start an offline season and just user control all teams and then using trades to build the rosters, apparently Madden 2013 also removed the ability to control multiple teams in a season. Dunno why they did this. But unless someone knows a work around, a sim isn't going to happen. I tried looking into it and can't find a way around this. Sorry guys.

I'll never understand what madden was thinking when they got rid of the fantasy draft

I thought you were going to sim the fantasy draft anyways just to see the results. If you were, then you could do an online league and just sim all of the picks. The biggest problem is how do you export the results?

I never did it, but apparently there was such an outcry from the fanbase that they did a patch to install it for online. They are still "working" on installing it for offline, but they said that in Sept 2012, so I doubt it will be put in at all. Just make everyone buy Madden 2014. I guess they're trying to push everyone online for various reasons.

I was going to sim a few seasons worth using the teams drafted here to see how each season would end up and see which team was the most successful. Are you wanting to compare what you guys did to what Madden would do?

Hopefully they have it in 2014 and we can revisit it then.

Also talking with a few people about judging this thing afterwards.

New York Giants select -

2.31 - Jake Long , Left Tackle

If you are going to invest so heavily in a young QB such as Andrew Luck , getting a rock solid All Pro to protect him is a must.

Long should make a boat load in free agency and resume his career with a clean bill of health.....injuries are the only thing that can stop him.

eta ....Had Clady , Solder, and Trent Williams on my short list for this pick along with Long.

Third Rd reverse is a horrible , horrible thing....big happy to get Long.

2.32 The Saints select Lardarius Webb, CB

I am thrilled that a true shutdown corner is available. Before his injury, Webb was in the elite CB tier and playing at a very high level. He is still only 27 and provides a good mix of youth and proven production.

3.1 Jacksonville Jaguars select Jay Cutler, QB

It's not pretty after the next few guys, and I'm 64 picks away. Will try and build a line for Cutler to finally have some time to throw, good start with the best LT in football protecting his blind side. Very talented, but makes some bone head choices sometimes. Happy to get him here.

Great value. I almost took him at 2.8.

Can we ease back on the write ups? Very annoying seeing like 4 people have the "best LT in football" and every cb is a "true shutdown corner". Im probably guilty as well and realize we want to show off our pick, but the hyperbole is a little out of control. I think I really started noticing when the AJ Green/Dem Thomas guy made a comment about no defense being able to stop this combo.

Who pissed in your cheerios today?

Carolina panthers pick 3.03 Aaron Hernandez

Wanted a reliable wr to pair with Tannehill, but given the depth of the position, and the lack there of at te, I'll take a young safety blanket in Hernandez. Can line him up all over the formation as well.

The top 66 players in the NFL truly are elite players though that can take over a game. I agree "unstoppable" is a bit much. I guess I am guilty of the "true shutdown corner" line but in my defense, Webb was playing at a very high level and teams were not testing him and were opting to try and pick on Cary Williams instead. I think as the level of players who get selected moves down, the write ups will be more grounded.

I thought it started when you said Flacco was more talented than RG3 and Wilson :boxing:

:lmao: Throwing the football, he is more talented. They can def run faster though.

Trying to lose a little weight. Had an apple and a pickle for lunch....ready to kill someone.

I'd be happy to be a judge at the end of this. Clearly I've had no issue with sharing my thoughts thus far.

One thing I think would be cool is if you list your whole team thus far. Maybe not every single post, but it does help see the whole picture forming.

By any measure they threw the ball better. More TDs, more completion percentage, more yards per attempt, etc.
