Cam Newton (1 Viewer)

I know that there is another Newton thread, but that one is (more) dedicated to his value as a QB2 (now QB1).

My question is what do you do with him? Now that he's putting up good numbers, do you cash in your late round pick for a startable player elsewhere, or do you trade your starter for help, and roll with Newton?

Assuming you didn't get one of the "big 5" QBs (Rodgers, Rivers, Brady, Brees, Vick), and have someone in the Romo, Roethlisberger, Ryan area as your QB1, what do you do?

Option 1-hold onto both guys, and try to pick which QB will score more each week, and maintain good depth at QB.

Option 2-trade Cam, based on his potential, and get starter help somewhere else. What could you expect to get though? A RB1, RB2, WR1, WR2, etc? What players do you think Cam would command?

Option 3-trade your starter & roll with Cam. What kind of player should you expect in return for a QB in the Romo, Ryan, Roethlisberger, Eli, Freeman range?

I have Ben and Cam in a dynasty. I would love to be able to trade Ben, or even Ben + WR/RB for an upgrade. Problem is, there seem to be "just enough" QBs in that 7-14 range that everyone with Fitzpatrick or even Grossman appear content with just rolling with who they have, instead of giving up value for what they view as a slight improvement.

I have Cam + Rodgers + Fitzpatrick. Considered trading Rodgers, but I'd rather try to move Cam. Consdiering offering Cam, Hillis, and Holmes to the team with Roeth for Peterson.

I've decided to keep both he and Eli Manning with Manning providing bench duties. :football:

Thanks for starting this thread. Was about to post one similar. I own him in a league with Rivers and another with Flacco/Ben where I picked him up on a whim before the season just in case.

Obviously everything depends on your situation. I just lost Charles so might try to move Rivers for a RB. I'll also likely deal one of Ben/Flacco to upgrade elsewhere. Just tough right now to move Sir Newton as you're an idiot if he keeps it up and finishes in the top 3.

I selected Newton with the last pick of the entire draft. I also have Rodgers, and now I am facing an 0-2 hole. SO torn.

Well, I lost Charles yesterday, so I'm looking to try to trade Cam or my QB1 for a RB upgrade: I'm targeting Forte, b/c his owner gambled on Peyton only missing a few games, but I think I might have to throw in a RB to make it work.

i kinda want to shop ben but its a keeper league and i dont want to give someone the opportunity to keep him as an 11th round pick

In a ten teamer with 4 pt passing TDs, Ben in the 11th isn't a tabling pounding steal.

Here's my take. If you already have a team considered a favorite to win the title (excluding Cam), move him and fill the weakest spot in your lineup or secured depth at RB/WR. You don't want to risk your season on a QB that could get hurt running the ball. If you don't have one of the top two teams, roll with him and hope he continues this run which might carry you to a title.

In the league (Dynasty) I own Cam in, I also have Kolb & Big Ben. Start 1 QB. I have tried to move all 3 & can't get anything worth starting. So I will happily keep all 3 until someone that realizes they could use a QB upgrade comes along.

Sounds like a problem with the asking price.

I've found more often than not people are unwilling to give much for upgrades at QB as long as they have a top 15 talent.

I can't stand people like this. I'd counter with Cam for his three best players just to leave me alone

That still might not be enough for Cam.

Hopefully your league provided offers a block offer option. This crap would annoy me.

Just offered Cam for Calvin Johnson.

He has Freeman for qb and has CJ, Fitz, Britt and Steve Smith.

I have Stafford and AJ, VJ and Harvin/Burleson

Crossing finger !

Ps redraft league

:goodposting: What amazes me is when someone is interested in a guy on your roster and somehow the trade offer becomes your best players for scrubs. I don't want to detail a trade offer I got because that person may be on here, but the offer for Brady somehow ended up including my 2 best WRs (top 5 and top 12 guys) and my best RB (top 5 guy) and would have made me weaker at all four spots. Trying to get people to accept a fair trade is almost impossible these days. The one nice thing is that some players on the other owners team lost value this weekend, so I may send a bad offer back just for fun.

Might be too greedy. I think I would have gone for Britt. He could outscore CJ and his name brand is still a little low, so easier for the other owner to swallow. It is hard to pry someone's first round pick away from them with a guy you may have gotten off the waiver wire.

I was offered Dez Bryant or Steve Smith (Car) for Cam. I have Romo now. Current WRs include: Holmes, Manningham, AJ Green, Meachem, & Mike Thomas. I just can't decide... (especially with Romo's status up in the air) Pairing Romo with Dez Bryant is awful tempting

I hate Newton - I don't own him in any of the 7 leagues I have because I thought he'd be a disaster at QB in the NFL.

If you have him, KEEP HIM ......... I wish I'd not been wrong about him and drafted him in every league I have.

And what do you do when you have both Cam and Steve Smith (Car.)? Again, a very tempting package right now. I'm not completely sold on the hype in the first two weeks and am thinking "sell high". And this package has to get some attention.

I know they won't continue this pace, but could still end up one of the top 5 QB-WR combos in the league (like Rivers-VJax, Romo-Austin(Dez?), Brady-Welker, Rodgers-Jennings, Brees-Colston).

Would one regret the trade?

I'm desperate to get him and replace Schaub in a PPC/PPR league. Luckily my brother has him, so communication is easy regarding a trade. But now I have to consider if Matt Forte and Tim Hightower are worth a rookie QB. The question becomes: Is Cam Newton this year's version of Michael Vick?

My gut says yes, my brain says no. More often than not, gut wins championships.

I offered A Rogers for him, other guy turned it down. I own him in my other league and wouldn't trade him for any one player.
In dynasty I'm tempted to offer Rodgers for cam + a little something. Will be tempting to take it if he counters with a straight up swap.22 yr old FF super-stud, hard not to love him.

This is getting a little out of hand
If a 22 yr old newton has a top 5 FF qb season this year he'll be more valuable then any qb in the nfl next offseason.. His upside is just ridiculous.

This thread is showing two different positions on Cam that are drastically different. (assuming redraft)

The first is people who do not own a top 4 QB (Brady, Rodgers, Brees, Rivers) with depth at other positions who can wrench Newton away from another owner with a 2nd or 3rd round RB or WR talent. This is a no-brainer in my opinion, as the potential Newton has flashed is far more likely to win you a title than your RB2 or WR1 option, especially if you've struggled with QB production.

The second is a bizarre phenomenon of people believing they absolutely must get their hands on Newton despite having one of the top 4 QBs. This to me is a foolish mistake, considering you spent your first or second round pick on a QB. Get real- Newton is not providing you a significant upgrade unless you're getting the likes of Megatron or Ray Rice in the package.

As for dynasty leagues, I don't think think anyone should be trading Newton. there isn't a single player as valuable as him at this very moment.

Don't reject these - keep them on the table for as long as possible. You never know, Newton could get hit by a bus tomorrow. If he does, free Jacoby Ford!

Redraft league... I had J.Charles...

Just moved Cam for C.Benson.... I have Stafford as my QB.. I know on paper it doesn't look like a good trade for me.. but personally, I don't think Newton is going to keep putting up the numbers he has and frankly, I needed a starting RB that is going to touch the ball 20+ times a game.

Benson isn't sexy, but he gets it done.

Just offered Rodgers for him. Maybe overpaying but soon it's likely Cam will be untouchable.
Hold the phones. I've been a big Cam defender even before the season but can't get my head around this. 2 or 3 points to consider before you offer Rodgers for Cam...He (and the new regime) have been together for just 7 weeks. To me it seemed like Rivera and Chud came in and saw what they had, understood their best chance of winning longterm was to focus on getting Cam comfortable in the pocket and went from there. The downside to that was that they really didn't spend much time getting the run game in a flow. Combine that with personnel issues on the defense and you end up relying on Cam's arm to win games. Cam's a freak, I think most everyone agrees. But remember that Rivera is a defensive minded coach with a history of getting defenses to perform beyond their talent level. And also remember that the organization has always encouraged running the football. Rodgers on the other hand has proven he has the skill set to beat teams presnap and postsnap in a way that simply can beat almost any defense. In fantasy football, that skill set is what I reach for and Rodgers has proven in much more. The age difference to me is nothing to consider either. Rodgers is just 27 and on his 4th year in the league. No way I'd offer that.

I need some help at RB so I offered Cam plus an RB for Gore. The guy said he will look at my roster but is not a believer in Cam, yet. It's a redraft league, but both teams need help as he took a chance on Peyton and I have Felix, Bush, DWill, and Ingram :X

yuck - good luck with that one.

Listening to Fantasy Radio on XM, just heard someone got offered Larry Fitz and Jimmy Graham for Cam Newton.

That is crazy imo. What kind of deals are ppl getting for Cam Newton?

I know that there is another Newton thread, but that one is (more) dedicated to his value as a QB2 (now QB1).My question is what do you do with him? I own Newton and Romo. There is a 4th option: start Newton every week, and keep Romo on the bench as backup. This is similar to option 1, except that I am not choosing between them each week; Cam IS my starter as of now. If at any time during the year Cam falters, then I can always switch back to Romo. I'll keep a close eye on each QB's production and make my final decision regarding the FF playoffs as they approach. But for now, Cam is the starter.

A buddy of mine offered me this yesterday:

Vernon DavisReggie BushNew York jetsfor my Cam NewtonKenny BrittJimmy Graham
:hophead: This particular owner has Brandon Loyd, Malcolm Floyd, Sidney Rice and Devin Hester. Needless to say I blew him out of the water on Sunday in our matchup. (He also owns Peyton Manning and Sanchez)I think our league is about two weeks behind in terms of fantasy value determinations. Either that or he thinks I'm a #######.The lagniappe is the fact that I grabbed Cam at the 11 spot on waivers in front of the 12 spot owner, who coincidentally, is the person trying to secure him from me. :shark:

I got Cam at the end of the second round in this year's rookie draft because he was there, but no way did I expect this kind of production out of him. Geez, with some of the offers you guys are discussing I might dangle him on the trading block in dynasty. I have the luxury of having Brees and Roethlisberger (it's a 6PT passing TD league) and I just lost Charles for the year, so maybe Cam could bring me a low end RB1 or better. Not counting on it, because trades in my league are rare and even rarer involving QBs.

If anyone is curious on the other side...was offered Newton by the Brees/Charles owner for Ryan Mathews (I have Schaub). Not really a big Cam believer, countered with Schaub and Hightower for Brees. He rejected.

OK, but if you have that much faith in Newton (to permanently bench a pre-season top 7/8 QB), why not trade Romo for improvement elsewhere, especially if you were hit by injuries or poor production (Charles, MJD, Bradshaw, Mendenhall, Colston, Wayne, D Jackson, Nicks, etc)?

i have brady and want to move cam, i need a RB thoughso far willis mcgahee was the best offer
Same here. Have Brady and Cam and just lost Charles. Last week I was shopping Cam for a WR3 and now I am shopping him for a rb. No offers so far. I will be sending out message soon to let all the teams know that he is available. I am interested in the trade offers I get. I hope I have a crazy "must have Cam" owner in my league.

do yuo think i should trade ben away and roll with cam for the rest of the season?ben in the 11th allows me to pickup other positions in the rounds i would be spending on a qbwe have a steelers lover in the league and hes already showed his interest.
