Can you get that multi-day shave every day? (1 Viewer)

Ok- for me:

- after shower, soak handtowel in hot, hot water (I"m fortunate- the hot and cold water in our sinks are at the extremes) and place on face for 10 or so seconds.

- tiny dab of Kiehl's shave cream (normal sized tube lasts a long time... IIRC, 6-9ish months- about $15)

- Gillete whatever razor... short strokes, always rinsing in hot, hot water

- rinse face with cold, cold water and then Kiehl's after shave lotion.

This is how I did it forever, but a hot shower and then shave cold water is the way to go.

i might try this to see how it compares. i'll report back...

update here... i've gone with the cold shave for a week now. it's not unpleasant as an experience goes. the shave itself is comparable, i think. it might be a little faster because i am not waiting for the hot water to run through the taps.

moderate thumbs up.

I've been trying it too.

No real discernible difference for me. As I mentioned, my hot water comes in right away and piping hot, so that isn't an issue one way or the other. I'll see if the blade lasts longer- that would be the best part of this (I never get razor irritation from hot water shaves, so that part of the link above from the OP apply to me.

Thread title always confuses me, I read it as can you get that multi-day look from shaving everyday? Well can you? Any tips on how to get that multi-day scruff look are appreciated. I currently use a beard trimmer with the smallest guard once or twice a week. Are there any pro tips on keeping a 2 day scruff everyday? And why are you nancies shaving everyday?

I'm completely opposite on the brush and soap thing. I shaved that way for years. I found the ritual pretty satisfying. But I can't say it gave me all that close a shave. Maybe closer than using most shaving creams, but nothing close to using the largely lather-less lubricating oils. And Cremo Shave Cream (which is a cream that goes on like an oil, largely without lather) is like 8 bucks for a 90 day supply. That's more expensive than Williams, I suppose, but not inordinately so.
I just started on my third tube of Cremo since last November, so the 90 day thing is no joke. I easily get 4 months, especially now that my wife stopped borrowing it. It worked so well for her legs that she bought and loves the ladies' version now (same stuff but smells better for her).
Tried it for the first time today - I was skeptical but no joke that it works. I shave my head and it's the smoothest it's been since I started shaving 20 years ago.

it's only the first blade on this... but it does seem to be lasting longer with cold water.

thanks for the tip, cstu

Welcome. I'm amazed at how much longer my blades last a well.

Cremo + cold water shave = :moneybag:
