Can you negotiate with DirecTV? (3 Viewers)

So service was only off for 24 hours?? and was your service actually  disconnected??

I ask as even though my online account says disconnected and we got the disconnected email and two rep's I talked to at 855 told me they showed the account disconnected, my wife tells me we still have service :oldunsure:
Yes, service was off for 24 hours.  Totally disconnected, couldn't watch TV, watch DVR recordings, etc.

Are people saying that maybe DTV is making people have their service disconnected at least a couple of days before qualifying for the new customer deal?

Do we think this is a glitch or a new practice??

Looks to be new as I didn't have to get disconnected to get the deals last year.. We still have service even though the email, online & reps say we don't.

My service didn't go out on my main tv but the other 2 boxes were turned off.  My service showed up in the system at 9am or so the next morning as "disconnected" and I had no problem when I called in to get the new customer deal.

I didn't get an email or a phone from them (scheduled the cancellation about a week out).

Three of us last week did not lose service.

Scheduled for 4-5 days out.

Script was leaving for Dish and their Red Zone package.

Set cancel date and get confirmation that return boxes will be sent.

All three of us had calls withing two hours and no hassle getting all of it and the gift card.

Followed that to the tee, heck have the script saved in my notebook since it worked the last year couple years...
Set Cancel for Monday, got cancel notice at midnight the night of the call, not Monday like I repeated 4 times to the lady.

Still waiting for call back/email with "BigDeal"..

Might be because of the time of the year

My greed got the better of me on Thursday and cost me two days of calls, only to be right back where we were.
Thursday's call they offered $50 of per month, Movie channels for 3 months for free and might be able to get me Sunday ticket max for free, but definitely no Gift card. When I pushed for GC they said is that a deal breaker? I said yes, and set cancel date for Monday. As it turned out, I should have taken the deal and just let the GC go.

Friday morning get email that our service was disconnected and online says the same.. Couple calls to 855 and nothing showing up, need to wait 48 hours..

Saturday, service is turned off, check online and service is disconnected.. Call 855 number nothing available, try customer service, nothing.. was given a 3rd number to call 800-254-3808 and still nothing.. Now when I check back online my account says "scheduled for disconnect" :wall:

Finally call back to Customer Service to get Service reactivated... Septembers bill right now would be $117..

Local phone company has a package deal available for Phone/Internet ( which we already get through them) plus Dish..
Locked in for two year price that would save us $30 per month compared to what we were paying for DirectTV with discounts plus the phone/internet.. So scheduled a Dish Install for Sept. 6th.

Going to give DirectTV a couple of cooling off days then calling back in next Tuesday to see if they want to keep us as a customer or :bye:

These ####ers have been jacking me around over a $200 Visa I was supposed to get when I re-signed up after moving. Just today, after being on the phone for an hour and being transferred 4 times, I finally hung up. I shouldn't even have to be on the line at all. I didnt get it, take care of it. Me telling the story five times is ridiculous.
Talk about first world problems

Officially disconnected as planned. I can live without tv for today. Do I wait a day or two to see if I get any calls or emails before calling in myself?

Dish blows

Yea, not the best solution, but better then the $117 a month we are scheduled to pay next month..
Not to mention the wife has been pushing to go to Over the air Antenna, with Netflix for a couple of years now.

The issue comes down to.. Even with the Discounts we had before this fiasco, the 2 years package deal is a $30/month savings.

I have the wife on board to stick with DirectTV if they give us the same discounts we had before.. Otherwise we will take the savings and live with Dish... :kicksrock:

Got the big deal email. Is there any way I'm "not in the system" yet as I was just disconnected last night?

My other offers at bottom of email show Sunday Ticket, 3 months movies, Genie upgrade. No mention of gift card and I already have genie. So either generic email, that's the Aug 29 offer, or they knew I got a gift card last year.

Any reason to wait to call?

took about 4 weeks

Get amazon fire tv, then PS Vue.    Then get red zone channel for 40 bucks.   Never worry about this again.

$460.00 dollars for a years TV.   79.00 one time equipment cost.

So when I called last week they escalated the incident and told me I should hear something in 3 - 5 business days. Still not seeing anything so I called again and they escalated again and told me I should receive a call back in 48 hours.
They must be trying to cut back on the gift cards.  Person who called me back tried to say there were no notes about the GC even though the previous couple calls said they could see the notes.  She tried to say that I wasn't eligible for a GC since I had received one last year. I told her that DTV needs to get their act together and they shouldn't have promised me one if I wasn't eligible. She asked who offered it to me and I said retentions and she hemmed and hawed some more and finally I told her if she can't send me the gift card to go ahead and forward me to retentions and I'll just cancel their sorry behind again.  :LongHold: "OK, your GC should arrive in 6 to 8 weeks." "Can I track it online?"  "No, there's nothing to redeem, it will be automatically sent to you."

Programming is now off, must be a day's lag between the cancel note and actual shut off. Time to call. Hoping it's one call and no more than 30 mins.

Anyone get discounts without having to sign contract?  What they gave me
She offered me $50/mo credits for a year, 3 mos of free movies, and 20% off Sunday Ticket with no contract.  If she'd given me the GC OR comped the ST, I'd have probably taken it.  She wouldn't do either.

DirectTV is a mess. Now because they "accidentally" disconnected our account and then reconnected, my "new" billing cycle is until the end of Sept. and they can't give any discounts until we get that bill which will be $120..

Set cancellation for Sept. 7th as Dish is scheduled for installation Sept. 6th.. If they don't come up with an "Amazing Offer" before then I guess I'll be a Dish customer for 2 years.

I believe this is the Noonan treatment you've all been warning about.

My problem is that I'm under contract til mid Sept 2017, and have some credits that run through mid Sept 2016.

Disconnect took place Sunday night, though programming didn't turn off until Monday night. I really did get the big deal email and called today to see what was available. They were unable to make any offers appear due to the Sept dates I mention above. Sounds like the credits lasting another few weeks is more of an issue than the year left on my contact.

Spoke to 3 different people and spent over an hour on 2 different calls. Got a supervisor at the end who was a little aggressive at the end, but became more understanding the more she learned about my situation. I think the worst thing that happened is that the first rep apparently reactivated my account to try and get offers to appear, so now they again have me set to disconnect tonight.

What a bad company. The games we play to get deals are one thing, but don't send me an email to try to win me back as a customer if you're not willing to do anything to try and win me back.

At least I was given multiple supervisor names at the 855 number. I guess I'll check back in with them in a few days to see if anything has changed. Worst case is I get with the loyalty department to reactivate my account and then work with them later in Sept once last year's credits have expired.

Yeah, I was told someone reactivated my account the first two days to search for deals as well.  The 3rd day I called I specifically told them "do not reactivate my account".  I had given up hope and then called one last time on a Saturday morning when Dish was coming in that Saturday afternoon.  It finally worked.

I'm gone if they can't get me the deals I had before... I mentioned this before...

Our Phone/internet company is offering a Package deal, locked in price for 2 years with Dish, that even if DirectTV gave us discounts to get the bill down to where it was before this fiasco( $62 per month) we would still save $30/month going with the phone/internet/Dish package..

So we shall see.. Bill down to $60, + Sunday Ticket Max, Plus Movie channels or :bye:

This is the problem I ran into. It was a nightmare. If there are any credits left on the account, they can't seem to do anything but create a huge mess. I've never seen anything so absurd in this industry.

Agreed, absurd. The amount of times I've been told "we really value you" or "I'm sure we can do something for you in a few weeks" is crazy. My favorite was how they have no answer to why did I get an email begging me back if you can't offer me some incentive to do so.

I just received the email saying my prepaid card was shipped as well. Received email today, but date shipped is showing 8/31.

I am going to write to directv and ask for free service for life to save them thousands of dollars by pointing them to this thread.

Thats my new script.

WTF...my sister called and got the big deal a week after I did. She got the gift card email today, and I havent heard anything about mine.

So I called and the lady told me they give 2 kinds of gift cards. One that you can track online and have to activate, and another that is sent directly out that doesnt show up online because its already activated (what?). She said mine will come in the mail in the next few weeks, but I wont be able to track it or check the status.
