Capella's 24-hour, VERY bigly OH MY GOD HOW DID WE GET HERE thread (1 Viewer)

Trump supporters don't expect him to fulfill all of his promises. "Oh, he only said that during the campaign to get votes. Once he wins he'll negotiate for something in the middle. That's just good business."

Four years from now, there will be no wall, no mass deportations, no Muslim ban, no manufacturing jobs; and abortion, ISIS and North Korea will still be plagues upon the world, and Trump's supporters will still think that he made America great again.
Oh I don't think so.  If the working class feels as let down and shut out of the system as they do now, a new guy/gal yelling "change" and "drain the swamp" will get their votes.  And I don't even blame them.  There are tons of people who feel completely disenfranchised by their government and that's not ok.

Nothing fun about it.  This election was soul crushing to a lot of folks.  Unbelievable blotch on history.
The last 8-20 years has been soul crushing to a lot of folks.  Unbelievable blotch on history.  But instead of just being upset and crying about it on social media, they have lasting legacies like alcoholism, addictions to meth and no future career prospects.

They only people that have any reason to fear a Trump presidency are the people who have made a ridiculous living off of playing the political game in Washington and illegal immigrants.  Everything else Trump does is about economics.

The irony is that the legacy of alcoholism and drug addiction can be directly traced to Republican policies, cutting public funding for treatment options, lifting regulations on advertising and allowing drug companies to have free reign to peddle their highly addictive narcotics.

(Not that the Democrats ever cried foul. I'm sure they all took donations from Big Pharma and Anheuser-Busch.)

Among the cabinet members that are being floated out there are a bunch DC retreads. Newt as SoS, yeah that sounds great.

I am curious to see the true appointments.  He will need some current insiders to at least have a clue how things actually work around town.

Sure.

Newt, Rudy, the guy who called Hillary a #### isn't a good start.

These names could certainly all be BS though, we'll see.

Most of these people did not support his candidacy.  Lots of them said stuff like he was unfit for office.  I'm not sure they want to work for him.  And even if they do, Trump doesn't seem to be one to let bygones be bygones.

Are you proposing we deny the poor a right to vote?
I am suggesting that Trump isn't the answer to their plight. I am suggesting that the situation in which they find themselves in, while tragic, is being exploited by someone who has no concept of what he is starting and no plans, realistic or otherwise, to end it either.

These seem like the right kind of people to be determining the fate of the most powerful nation on Earth
As opposed to all of the inner city drug addicts that vote Dem, year after year after year after year?
So they are only sympathetic if they are (God fearing) rural folk?

Interesting.
Class, please see the definition of a "strawman" argument above.

Just thought I'd nest this properly so everybody can see how ridiculous your comments are.

Thought I read somewhere that Dr. Ben Carson has the inside track to Secretary of Education.  Is that true?  If so, that's scary, to me at least.

Whether this is true or not, they were never given an alternative to consider.  Just more of the same policies that they PERCEIVE put them in this situation.

Oh, I totally agree that no one else attempted to rile up (communicate with) this demographic. But there are ways and means thay does not open up that particular Pandora's box quite as explosively
