Capella's 24-hour, VERY bigly OH MY GOD HOW DID WE GET HERE thread (3 Viewers)

So one thing I am not understanding is how Hillary left all those crying supporters at her own rally last night....she did not even come out to thank them and talk to them after she conceded.

Seriously? WTF is that?
Pathetic. She should be ashamed but she had that part of her cut out a long time ago.

Holy Jesus, it sounds like some people need to get their emotions under control.

What would it take to knock the arrogance out of some of these condescending liberals. Reality check is needed.

This election had nothing to do with abortions, or any type of gay issue. Those debates are over. Conservatives need to move on.
Lots of people on tilt today.

I've sometimes wondered how I would have acted if I had lived through the Red Scare or - far worse - during Hitler's rise in Germany.

I'd like to think I would have actively stood up in the face of injustice and tried to make a difference. But for all I know, I might have just stayed quiet, tried not to rock the boat, and hope things would work out.

Feeling like I might be about to find out. If Trump really does start ignoring the Constitution, be it ignoring the Freedom of Religion of Muslims, or ignoring the Fourth and Fifth Amendments when it comes to law and order, or anything else, I'm going to have to get involved in trying to stop it.
Oh, hey, look today is literally the 78th anniversary of Kristallnacht

That may be, but words like "uninformed" and "misguided" are a lot more effective than "dumb", "stupid" and "illiterate".

These people can read and many are damn good businessmen.  Do they understand macroeconomics?  No.  Doesn't mean you have to insult their intelligence.
Uninformed and misguided are the words I would use to describe people who voted for Sanders. And a lot of Clinton voters too.

I think a whole hell of a lot of us will.

My grandparents (both sides of them) were Auschwitz survivors.

But again.....I think a lot of his talk was a lot of bark. I am not overly concerned. Let's see how it goes year one. I think the over reaction is getting a little nuts. But my eyes and ears are wide open.

They failed her. They didn't deserve it.

IF you're so soft you're going to kill yourself because Trump won... you probably weren't cut out for the real world anyway.

JMHO.
If you haven't been exposed to others who suffer from anxiety and depression who can be "set off" by something like this, consider yourself lucky.

It is disgusting.

It really goes to show that her campaign was she is all about her.

Maybe I'm being too optimistic but I believe he will appoint a good cabinet.  I think he now realizes the gravity of the situation and will do what's best for the country.
I think you're being too optimistic.  Keep in mind that a lot of qualified people would have no interest in working in a Trump administration.

Let's roll back the clock to the financial crisis. What if the bailout DID NOT give the money to the banks?  What if that money was used to rebuild roads, bridges...You know the stuff we all see needed to get done.  What if that money was used to incentivize American companies to create jobs (ie you add 10,000 jobs and you get this corporate tax cut).  I read where the bailout could have just paid off everyone's mortgages in full and been a lot cheaper than what we did.  The banks won, the slime in Congress won, and the people lost.

There are a LOT of ways for Trump to create more wealth for the working class.  It starts by eliminating the banks and Wall Street as the decision makers.  Create an environment where you will reward major US companies to stay.  Penalize them for situations where executive pay is too high.  Reward them for creation of jobs, etc.

He may not succeed, but to think it can't work is wrong. The country needed a candidate not beholden to major stake-holders that got him elected.  Trump has a lot of faults, but I think he will be able to work with manufacturing to increase jobs in America.

If they don't undesrtand macroeconomics and voted for a guy who doesn't understand macroeconomics on the basis of the economic promises he made, then they are dumb. Full stop.

What you and many who voted for Trump don't get is that his economic populism shtick is, at best, a marketing ploy. He identified an opportunity to exploit an underrepresented demographic and told them what they yearned to hear. Congrats. You've just done the policial equivalent of giving the nice Indian guy on the phone named "Rick" from the "Windows Technical Department" your credit card number.
Just a quick correction, I didn't vote for Trump and think he will be a horrible President.  I'm hoping not, but I don't have much confidence in him.

I'm trying to help people understand the mindset of the Trump voters, because I live around them and interact with them every day.  You and your kind calling them names will simply embolden them and motivate them more and more so the future could continue to look like the present.

She doesn't care about them. It was her turn and didn't work out. Those people didn't work hard enough and didn't deserve to hear her talk. What did she have to gain personally by addressing "those" people? That's your answer.

If Flynn and Giuliani are among his cabinet, it's going to be worse than the GW years. Those two are both legitimately crazy and dangerous.

Trump is a lot of shtick, General Flynn is not shtick.

Who cares that's not how the system works. How's your electable candidate working out for you? Maybe focus on that. While I voted for Hillary it certainly gives me some pleasure as a Bernie supporter that she got what was coming to her.
Thank you for the valuable insight.

I also suspect we see an outstanding cabinet too.  People wanting to wait him out might be in for a rude awakening if he is successful in getting America back to work.

I am not calling them names. I am simply saying anybody who thinks his economic "plan" makes any sense whatsover has no understanding of economics. That isn't name calling, it is just truthful.

The best argument against democracy is a five minute conversation with the average voter.

--Winston Churchill

I'd guess that 98% of the voting population has no idea that the US is a fiat issuer or the implications.

Agreed...nothing funny about suicide no matter what the trigger was that puts someone over the edge.

Name calling and truthful aren't mutually exclusive.  Calling a co-worker "Fatty" would constitute name-calling, even if she is actually obese.

and the bailout of the banks made sense?  At least let 3/4 of them collapse before doing anything.  Handing over a ton of money to banks that were leveraged to the hilt betting on home prices continuing to rise.  Screw them.  They needed to crumble.  The small banks not participating in this charade should have been rewarded while the risky decisions were punished.

The Dems yell about trickle-down economics and this was the worst case of this ever.

You just, "call it like it is", huh?  Good for you, man.  Keep up the good fight.

Wall Street banks aren't all up 4% today because they expect to have less power/control in DC.  Your premise is flawed

We'll see, he has a lot of crazy people around him now.

Im giving him a full chance, I'm not going to be that Anti-Obama guy who never even gave the guy a chance and then attacked him for eight years.

Trump is going to have the lanes to get a lot done, let's see what he can do before moving to Canada (I think the righties were moving to Central America after Obama won iirc).

Wall Street makes money when the government can do things.  We have a GOP everything.  Stuff will get done and the banks will finance it and make money. Infrastructure will likely gain big.

Giuliani as Attorney General

Gingrich or John Bolton as Secretary of State

Mike Flynn as National Security Advisor

Climate change denier Myron Ebell as head of EPA

Ben Carson of HHS

Pretty exciting stuff

I'm just hoping we get a really good Speaker of the House. Not a Cabinet position, I know.

In a situation where there were virtually no good alternatives, it was judged to be the least bad one at the time. TARP was in many ways successful, even though a lot of people (including me) were fearful that it just perpetuated moral hazard.
