Carr to the Browns? (1 Viewer)

Didn't Andre Johnson go to the Pro Bowl this year? I can't remember who threw all those passes to him.
This guy.http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports...ez/4591907.html

... Carr's legacy here will be that of one player single-handedly crippling an entire organization.

... can they make the toughest decision of all and sever ties with the albatross that is Carr?

... In a parting shot, Moulds spoke Wednesday about what he felt limited this team's chances to succeed last season. The Texans won six games in 2006. Two more wins would have had the club on the brink of the playoffs.

Moulds said it was Carr who hindered the team's chances, saying that at some point "the quarterback has to show that he can carry (the team)."

... And while Cleveland and Minnesota have entered into trade talks for Carr, the Texans apparently don't like the proposed deals thus far. And the Browns and Vikings believe they could land Notre Dame's Brady Quinn in the draft.

... But big change only comes with exactly that. Big change. All the little moves won't mean a thing unless the front office gets some blood on its hands and rids itself of the albatross. Sad, but true.
Good thing you are not a Viking fan with a woody for Quinn wanting the Browns to trade for Carr or I might suspect your agenda was to talk up Carr for the Browns to trade for and then talk down Quinn on the fading hope the Browns would pass on Quinn and he'd fall into your lap at the seventh pick. Heaven forbid.

That's quite a sentence.

The Texans should be drafting defense and o-line, and specifically defensive line. Branch seems like a good compliment to Williams and Ryans and Robinson, and may actually enable them to dictate terms to opposing offenses when they're on the field.

They can pick up Plummer or Garcia, and either augment their RB corps through a mid-round pick or grab a FA like Jordan or Jamal Lewis to shore things up. They could actually win 8 or 9 games with that sort of set up.

I'm going to think a lot less of that front office if they abandon that team-building plan that they were clearly setting out on last year by drafting Williams over Bush.

I agree with this and hope they stick to a plan similar to what you're talking about. The team won 6 games last year and there were a number of close games they should have won had their defense been better and turnovers not given away the game. Both Tenn games, and the games against the Bills and the Giants immediately spring to mind. All 4 of those were close enough that they should have been wins. 1 was lost in overtime and another with 10 seconds on the clock.

Would Texans fans rather see the team draft a DT like Branch or Okoye or a safety like Landry or even Nelson?

I'm not a Texans fan, but I'll answer anyway. Unless you're dealing with a once-in-a-decade talent like Champ Bailey or Sean Taylor, in other words a supreme first-class athlete, you build your defense from the line backwards. A good safety isn't much good if the 9 guys in front of him are all going "Ole!" to the guys with the ball. OTOH, as we've seen with the Eagles, if you have good talent and depth on the line, your LB's for example don't need to be outstanding to have a good defense. The safeties this year aren't all that great (at least that we know of right now), so I'd stick with the best lineman available, preferring a DT over a DE.

Laron Landry is going to be a stud.
I understand that, but check out Adrian Wilson in Arizona for an example of how a stud safety gets lost in what is otherwise a defensive mess. If you think Branch or Okoye are destined to fail, that's one thing, but otherwise I just think that that's where your early pick is best used if you're the Texans. The closer the player is to the ball at the snap on defense, the more of an immediate impact that they have, all other things being equal.

Wow, so would Carr preclude the Browns from taking Quinn? After the Texans were convinced he was the guy, so they passed on Young, one would think a team would learn its lesson.
No way the Browns take a QB in the 1st round.Crennel is on his last shot and if they take a QB, they may as well cut Crennel loose now.
Agree. Getting Carr, then getting Branch at the 1.08, then using the 2.03 on O-line (like Kalil) and the 2.08 again on O-line (like Ugoh, Staley, or even Blalock if he slips) would be a draft day A+ for the Browns IMO.
 a Browns fan praying this happens.

I like Landry a lot and they definitely need safety help, but I like what you are saying. However, they cut Seth Payne yesterday, our oft injured DT. Travis Johnson has been a bit of a disappointment his 1st 2 years at DT however there are rumors that the Texans are going to move Anthony Weaver from DE to DT which would fill the interior. If that's the case I think the pick is Adams or Anderson at the DE slot.

It think both will be gone before the Texans pick - Anderson to Washington and Adams to Minnesota.
If both are gone, I think it's likely Branch is still on the board then. Keep Weaver at end and add Branch or even Okoye. If they are really looking to go D'line they've got some flexibility either way the draft falls.
