Year in and year out the SP is in full effect bashing the Raider draft picks and trades, but oddly enough, they only seem to get better.as a raider fan, one thing that makes me feel good about this trade is that everyone here thinks it's a dumb idea...
If the Raiders win A playoff game, it's a first. Otherwise, a second. It's one first round pick, with the conditions of the second not made public yet. I imagine he'd have to be pretty successful in order for that to be bumped up to a first rounder, in which case, it would obviously be worthwhile to the Raiders. I'm in agreement with those who say draft picks can be wildly overvalued. It's a gamble, just like anything else. Obviously, they feel they need a QB and don't like who would be falling to where they'd end up, and most importantly, this is somebody they can plug in now with a team they feel is competitive and they believe can give them results. How many mid to late first round QBs end up producing like Palmer in the NFL? Clearly, it's very important to the Raiders organization that they pull all stops this season. I respect the aggressiveness. As a Raiders fan im ok with the choice of QB ...but the price was too steep...maybe 1 first round pick(a second round pick would have been more in line) but TWO first round picks ????![]()
Please god, let the Raiders play Bengals in the first round. The second becomes a first if the Raiders win a playoff game, per Mort. It's one first round pick, with the conditions of the second not made public yet.
You're the last guy to talk.lolRaiders, joke of a franchise, joke of the NFL.
Smug Seahawk fans amuse me.Tuesday report by Fox Sports' Jay Glazer, Brown had been talking with the Oakland Raiders about a trade that would send Palmer to the Raiders for a first-round draft pick in 2012 and a conditional first-round pick in 2013. If the Raiders make the playoffs in 2011, the Bengals will get a first-rounder in 2013; it will be a second-round pick if they don't.The deal makes Oakland's 2012 draft very interesting — not only did they give up their 2012 third-rounder when they selected Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor(notes) in the 2011 supplemental draft, but they will also have traded away their first-round, second-round, fourth-round, and seventh-round picks for 2012 in various other deals. The second-rounder left in a draft weekend trade with the New England Patriots, the fourth-rounder was for Jason Campbell(notes), and the seventh-rounder was for former Seattle Seahawks linebacker Aaron Curry(notes). Add in the third-rounder sacrificed for Pryor, and the Raiders might as well go fishing next April.Of course, that's not entirely true -- they'll get compensatory picks for losing veterans like Nnamdi Asomugha(notes), Zach Miller, and Robert Gallery(notes) -- but it's obvious that the 4-2 Raiders, who are currently in second place behind the San Diego Chargers in the AFC West, are going all out to win in a 2011 season that has been marked by the loss of Al Davis.http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner'Apple Jack said:It's one first round pick, with the conditions of the second not made public yet. I'm certainly not a fan of giving up even one first-round pick for Palmer, but Oakland is likely to be picking in the bottom half of the first round for the next few years. There are no guarantees that first-round picks will be a success, especially ones at the back half of the round. But still, this deal was short-sighted. Anything short of a Super Bowl appearance in the next two years renders this a bad deal. And unless our defense has a miraculous transformation, that is not a reality.Don't believe the Raiders will have one pick in first 4 rounds next year.

Well except for the lack of arm strength. On Tuesday morning, Shutdown Corner spoke with Travelle Gaines of Athletes Performance in Carson, Calif., where Palmer has been working out for months. As it turns out, Gaines — who also works with the Raiders in an advisory capacity — was the man the Raiders leaned on to find out what kind of football shape Palmer was in. "He looks great — he's been throwing every day, and working with Ken O'Brien, the quarterbacks coach," Gaines said. "He's been throwing to his good buddy T.J. Houshmandzadeh(notes), working with Terrell Owens(notes) and Hank Baskett(notes). He looks great. I think he'll be ready to go and step right in for the Raiders. He and Coach Jackson have worked together in the past, and they have a great relationship."http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner
The biggest concern with Palmer is mobility. The Broncos turned Jay Cutler intoRobert Ayers DL - 3 career sacks, starting but low upsideRichard Quinn TE - blocking specialist, cut this offseasonDemaryius Thomas WR - hurt a lot, who knowsand used its abundance of picks to justify trading its own 2010 1st to getAlfonso Smith CB - bust in DEN, traded to DET for the wrong Gronkowski brother, who was cut
Some people think these picks automatically turn into sure-fire studs. In 4 or 5 years we'll know if the possible pair of late-round 1sts turn into anything good. What I like about the Cincy end, is that they get a good crack at making something good out of picks coming from a rotting player. Could wind up a win-win.I remember this board lighting up in similar style. Weren't guys comparing the Denver trade to the Herschel Walker trade as well?Oops.

Right- because TD passes is the absolute indicator of arm strength. Pennington was known as "noodle arm" and he threw 22 TDs in 12 starts once for the Jets. Nobody is saying Palmer cant have success in Oakland (In fact, I kinda hope he does). And if you want to look at stats look at Palmer's ypa. 7.5, 7.8, and 7.2 the three years prior to elbow problems. 5.7, 6.6, 6.8 since. Maybe his arm is improving but the last few seasons he has demonstrated that his arm clearly wasnt what it was before. Again, based on watching him play he didnt drive the ball, have the same velocity, or tightness in his throws that he had previously. IMO Oakland is paying a VERY steep price for a QB who is somewhat damaged goods. And speaking of looking foolish. I think that would be citing a video that includes highlights from 2007 and pre-elbow problems as evidence that Palmer's arm was fine in 2010 and blaming everything on a WR while calling him third grade names is quite foolish. But that's just me.'FavreCo said:Boatload of 'lack of arm strength' guys are going to look foolish. 26 TD's last year with a noodle arm.![]()

I'm sure it was that and not the two first round picks the Bengals will be receiving.'dcgangstas said:Rotoworld is reporting that the deal is close to done.
The Raiders and Bengals are close to a trade that would send Carson Palmer to Oakland, according to FOX's Jay Glazer.
Per Glazer, the deal is expected to be completed by today's 4pm ET deadline with Cincy receiving a first-round pick in 2012 and a future conditional pick. He adds that Hue Jackson's close, personal relationship with Bengals owner Mike Brown is what got the Bengals to move off their stubborn stance. Jackson was the Bengals' wide receivers coach from 2004-06. Palmer may need a week to get his feet under him, but the 31-year-old will give an Oakland passing game that was set to go in the tank under Kyle Boller some life. Hold your Raiders wideouts.
The Beloved Silver and Black gives up a first for Palmer??? If I didn't know any better...nah.

And now for the Bengals.Draft picks are for the birds.
Last team to do that? RAIDERS in 86 when they didn't have a pick in the first 5 rounds..Don't believe the Raiders will have one pick in first 4 rounds next year.

Okay so it's a First this year and a Second next year. Still ridiculous value for Palmer.-QG'yellowdog said:If the Raiders win A playoff game, it's a first. Otherwise, a second.
And? Go back and look at recent drafts, a good amount of solid/star players that were had in the later part of the first round.I'm certainly not a fan of giving up even one first-round pick for Palmer, but Oakland is likely to be picking in the bottom half of the first round for the next few years. Didn't hear a ton of supportive comments from hi ex-Bengals teammates, 'tis true.-QG'Hoart Petterson said:Mike Brown deserves major props for not giving into a guy who quit on his team and then making a move when he was offered the absolute maximum. Still don't understand how anyone could have sided with Palmer on this. Guy just walked out on his teammates. Even worse, he decided to quit on the best Bengal team in years! His not being on the team probably has something to do it's success. So if the Raiders don't make the moves that brainiac Carson believes they should, will he quit on them? Terrible move by the Raiders to give a king's ransom for a quitter. Watch that team go right in the toilet now.
finally someone said it. ive noticed this as well.'notdarkyet said:I would worry less about his arm strength, I think he still has plenty of arm. But he plays scared. Yeah, he totally lost faith in the o-line in recent years - not sure if that really was the o-lines fault or if it was the Kimo incident playing way in the back of his mind (or the broken nose he got against the Giants). It'll be interesting to see if this goes away and if he's willing to step up in the pocket on a new team.Luckily the Raiders have fast receivers so maybe they catch those balls that sail highfinally someone said it. ive noticed this as well.'notdarkyet said:I would worry less about his arm strength, I think he still has plenty of arm. NOT true - it is a 1st in 2012 and a second that could be a 1st in 2013 - per Mort on ESPN live'Apple Jack said:It's one first round pick, with the conditions of the second not made public yet.'BustedKnuckles said:As a Raiders fan im ok with the choice of QB ...but the price was too steep...maybe 1 first round pick(a second round pick would have been more in line) but TWO first round picks ????![]()
Most exciting comeback since Brees, Farve wasnt all that exciting unless you get into interceptions and texted body parts. Most exciting comeback since Favre.
I have not gone through the whole thread, so I am not sure whether this has been stated, but when Mike Brown chooses to trade someone, it is usually because he feels he will make out big time or that player is at the end of their rope. You look at some of the recent decisions with skilled players (not resigning Housh, moving Ocho, and now Palmer) and he only will move those players when he feels he has people in place that are as good or better. Even the trade of Dillon was orchestrated only after he knew he had a RB in Rudi...then Rudi is gone and he fades away, just like the rest.I am not saying this is the right way to do it (he did leave a 1st on the table when he did not move Ocho a few years back to the Skins, but it does show a pattern. Whem Mike Brown says, OK, lets trade", as a GM, you better watch out because you likely will get the short end of the deal.'notdarkyet said:At worst it's a first and a second. As a Bengals fan, I am ecstatic. Hell hath frozen over and Mike Brown ended up making the right move and making out like a bandit.
