CB/WR Travis Hunter, JAX (10 Viewers)

Thing is for the Jags, if they make him a CB after spending all that draft capital to move up for him to just be a CB
they look really bad, he would have to be one of the best CB of all time to even come close to warrant that draft position

Either way the Jags really messed up and are making things worse by how they are using him, he is not improving on the offensive side of the ball
due to not being able to focus on learning the offense and working on being a better WR

Jags are spoon feeding him on both sides of the ball and are getting minimal out of that pick, that is what bad teams do, they screw things up
they do not notice they are screwing things up, they ruin/waste talent.

Jags should let him focus on offense, work on being a great WR, who plays some CB that is the only way they will get any value out of that pick and
spent draft capital
I agree. If you take him that high, he should have strictly been used as a WR as it is hard enough for a rookie to adapt to the NFL. CB should not be drafted that high, after a year or two THEN start to implement him as a 2 way player and see how it goes.

This is the route I would go, and more specifically I'd limit him to certain dime/nickel packages on defense - wherever they think he would flourish. So he'd know the exact situations he'd go in and what he's expected to do when he's in. With a very narrow scope, he wouldn't be pulled in two different directions all the time.

With a couple of injuries and byes. I think I have to start him this week.

Yikes!
I’m starting him as flex over Parker Washington and Chig. Unless Bucky gets healthy, then it becomes a difficult choice. Hunter has big consistent in that IDP league, wr44 ppg isn’t what we wanted but he has been better than Jameson, Xavier worthy and AJ brown.

Yeah. Unfortunately this is not an IDP league. He was included in a trade with Jaylen Warren, who I started for the first time last night… and he did well, so maybe there’s hope! It’s Superflex and I start T Law so maybe there’s a chance of a stack!

So, he blows up on probably everyone's bench, if you play him next week will be disappointed more than likely

Seen this happen so many times, miss the breakout game, then chase the points you have been waiting for
play him the next two weeks, he does nothing so back to the bench he goes, then he has another good game lol

… I started him. Without confidence of course, but with full stubbornness.

We all saw the news this week right? Liam said he wanted to get him more first read looks … they did that. And it worked.

BTJ hurt, and still playing scared? Hunter is an easy flex start going forward. I might even say he’s going to be a locked in WR2 the rest of the way.

Wondering if I should trade him now in Dynasty. I'm feeling more confident he find a permanent role on offense, but I don't have a good feel on what his upside is.

As always, depends what you get and need. He’s currently a top 36 WR PPG in the two dynasty leagues I have him, which is solid for any rookie, and very good imo with his needing to learn more than almost any player.
He’s not a top 10 WR, but I’d need a young player I have confidence in being a top 10 going forward. It seems doubtful anyone will give that much.
I guess if you’re going all in for this year you can trade him for a difference maker, but I really don’t think I’d get enough to consider trading him. I happen to be building where I have him, he’s a cornerstone imo.

I have him in a league that I'm a contender in and I haven't started him yet this season. After the Jamo Williams fiasco last week, I may start him in the future. It's just a bad spot either way and I'll probably look to trade him.

My holdup is that I think Jacksonville has to force the ball to him to justify their trade. Its good short term and maybe helps him develop as a WR. It's not a winning football strategy though. There have been several former NFL WRs who have commented on how sloppy Hunter's routes are. Plenty of room to improve, but he's still a very raw talent. If there are some true believers out there, this seems like an ideal time to move him.

This dude is on my target list for buy low around the trade deadline in dynasty leagues. Tons of talent and you have to think Coen isn't gonna sit back and watch TLaw sink his first HC gig.

Can they even get out of that contract if they wanted?
Post June 1 trade in 2026 would mean ~$15mil in dead cap in 26 and 36mil in dead cap in 27. It's not going to be easy, but it's doable.

certainly seems to be among the more controversial players. Problem is those of us who drafted him are likely to be true believers and the whole sunk cost fallacy

If Parker or Brown got fed all the targets Hunter did last week, they would of put up similar #s as Hunter.
Took Hunter 7 weeks to get first TD. He's probably 10th best wr in his class. So overrated.

Next week will be telling if the last few games were a mirage, or a second half breakout is really happening. We also don’t know the health status of BTJ yet.

Liam Coen says Jaguars will play 'best 11' in reference to Travis Hunter's usage

The Jacksonville Jaguars are doing inventory during the bye week.

They’re self-scouting themselves, trying to correct mistakes they’ve made and highlight the things they do well.

“What do we do best? What are the things that we do best in all three phases,” head coach Liam Coen said to reporters on a zoom call during the bye. “[We'll] go and dive into and pour into those things.”

There are several areas the team will tackle during the bye week including penalties, drops and other self-inflicted issues. But another area of focus will be updating the plan for rookie two-way player Travis Hunter.

Hunter scored his first touchdown in the loss to the Los Angeles Rams — the only touchdown Jacksonville managed to score in the contest.

It was the best output for Hunter through seven games as a professional, recording eight catches for 101 yards.

“I thought that there were some definite flashes [during the game] in terms of on offense specifically, had a great pass breakup as well on defense,” Coen said.

Travis Hunter will likely see play time increase on both sides of the ball after the bye week

Hunter has recorded 28 receptions for 298 yards and the touchdown on offense while logging 15 total tackles and three pass deflections on defense. Expect for those numbers to increase greatly in the games after the bye week.

“We are going to play the best 11 as much as humanly possible after this bye,” Coen said. “We’ve kind of gotten a sample size of everything, the totality of the first seven weeks of every position, but specifically with him.”

Hunter played 67 offensive snaps against the Rams which is the most on that side of the ball in his career. However, he only had 14 snaps on defense which was one of the lowest totals this season.

And Jacksonville’s defense suffered for it, seeing a 21-0 deficit before he got his first rep on defense. That first rep saw him matched up against Davante Adams and he came up with a textbook pass break up on the star receiver.

Hunter is comfortably their best cornerback in coverage and has been the most reliable pass catcher through the first seven games. He has shown that he’s ready for a larger slice of the responsibilities on both sides of the ball.

The Jaguars will use this week to evaluate and update their plan for the rookie.

“We've got to just make sure we're playing the best guys at all times and see what that looks like,” Coen said. “That will a hundred percent be a part of this evaluation and conversation over the next few days here.”

What are Travis Hunter’s stats?

Travis Hunter has recorded 28 catches for 298 receiving yards this season. He’s caught the most passes on the team and has the second-most receiving yards.

He has logged 15 total tackles with three pass deflections in seven games.

How many snaps has Travis Hunter played on offense and defense this season for the Jacksonville Jaguars?

Travis Hunter has played 324 offensive snaps, 162 on defense, and three on special teams for a total of 489 snaps.

He averages 46.2 offensive plays, 23.1 defensive plays and 69.8 plays overall per game.

Three things the Jaguars need to focus on entering Week 9

More Hunter on offense

Coen hinted at some lineup shifting after the bye week, saying: "We are going to play the best 11 [on each side of the ball] as much as humanly possible." He said that during an answer about assessing Hunter's play and if they would be updating the plan for Hunter's usage after the bye.

Reading between the lines, it looks like Hunter is going to be a significant player in the offense going forward. That's what Coen said heading into last Sunday's game against the Rams, and then Hunter led the Jaguars in targets (14), catches (eight) and receiving yards (101) while playing a season-high 64 snaps. He now leads the team in receptions (28) and is second in receiving yards (298).

So don't be surprised if Hunter starts getting the WR1 treatment from the Jaguars in the season's second half, and that's partly due to his playmaking and run-after-the-catch ability, but also because Brian Thomas Jr. hasn't played at that level all season.

Thomas tied for the NFL lead with five drops with three other players through Week 7, per ESPN Research, and there have been multiple instances where he has appeared to alligator arm a pass or shy away from contact. He had third-down drops against Seattle Seahawks and the Rams and a fourth-down drop against the Cincinnati Bengals that would have given the Jaguars a first-and-goal late in the fourth quarter.

How that impacts Hunter's role on defense isn't yet clear, but it's notable Hunter played only 12 defensive snaps against the Rams (he had a pass breakup against Davante Adams) after playing 25 and 22 snaps on defense the previous two games.

"[The updated plan for Hunter] is absolutely going to be a part of the conversation [during the bye] with both sides of the football," Coen said. "... We've kind of gotten a sample size of everything, the totality of the first seven weeks of every position, but specifically with him. There was definitely some really good things [on Sunday], specifically on the offensive side of the ball. There's still a lot of things that need to be cleaned up and corrected."

Coach speak puff piece. Dyami Brown will still get too many snaps. Trevor will still be the starting QB. Starting WRs should be Parker Washington and Hunter at this point. BTJ is lost. Really need a new QB but that aint happening.

Based on this and a talking head. I am really uncertain.

Talking head made it seem that this recent coach speak was a call for more O snaps and less D snaps. And that Hunter would get WR1 opportunities. I think that still can exist with BTJ being traded, but that is far from certain.

If you don't have Hunter see if you can trade, but just keep your value of him based on what was seen. If you have to trade for the potential you are likely to get burned.

Bull case he is WR 11-15, Bear Case he is Flex/WR3 and for that reason I'm likely not gonna deal.

Have a deal to give away Dart and Downs for Hunter in a league. My qb is Maye. Redraft. Take it?

Hell Yea! Good trade if you believe in upside Bull Case.

I see similar player values for Downs as Shakir/Franklin and Dart is Herbert/Caleb Williams.

but Hunter range of outcomes is worth this for your bench pieces and if is Bear Case it didn't kill you.
