I have a few questions setting up the waiver wire process on cbssportsline.

1. We have set waiver to run on Wednesday. Does that mean no transaction before waivers run?

2. We have set all dropped players to be on waivers for 3 days. At what time after those 3 days do they become available and is it just a free for to pick them up.

Actually, it woulds be great if someone would just go over the whole process of how CBS handle it so heading into the season everyone in my league will be on the same page. In years past we have just manually handled transaction but really want to get away from that. We have decided the add/drop deadline will be 5 minutes before sundays game, that waivers run on Wed, that dropped players will be on waivers for 3 days, waiver order will be reverse order of standings. So how would a typical week go?

Thanks,

You can claim players before Wednesday but they won't be placed on a team until waivers is run. The team with the highest waiver order that puts in a claim for the player will get him. All other claims for that player by other teams are nullified.

Once a player clears waivers they are available on a first-come, first-serve basis until 5 minutes before the first kickoff of the next week.

All players that are dropped during the week must go through waivers. If waivers is first run on Wednesday (usually around 3 AM) and you are making dropped players wait 3 days then you will be able to make a claim for them on Saturday and they will be awarded when waivers runs at 3AM Sunday morning. Unclaimed players will be FAs and available for pickup on a first come, first serve basis until 5 minutes before kickoff.

Our league runs waivers on every day Wed-Sun. This way dropped players become available throughout the week (except for those dropped on Sunday).

So if we have dropped players staying on waivers for 3 days and waivers running only on Wed that means you can even put a claim in on a dropped player until those 3 days are up and then he wouldn't be awarded to your team until early Wed morning?

Correct. If I put in a claim to add R. Leaf and drop P. Manning on Tuesday then I will be awarded Leaf on Wednesday at 3:00 AM assuming no one else with a higher waiver priority put in a claim. At that point P. Manning is put on waivers and will remain there for 3 days - HOWEVER - if you have waiver srunning only on Wednesday then Manning will remain there until the NEXT Wednesday.

No, the players dropped from wednesday's waivers will "on waiver" until early sunday - and since there is no other day set for running waivers, they will not be available until early sunday, at which point they will be available first come, first serve. All the other FA's (that were not dropped on wed) will be available first come, first serve after the waiver process runs on wednesday. If you think this is hard, try doing the Free Agent Auction process. That one sucks. It's a good idea, but really requires the commish to micro-manage it personally instead of allowing it to run automatically.EDIT: if the dropped players are on 3 day waiver, wouldn't they clear waivers on saturday?? Either way, doesn't change my point above.

We were set to go CBS this year instead of RTSports in one of my leagues...the waiver wire was a big problem so we stayed at RTSports...RT ain't flashy but it suire is reliable.

So when is he available? I need to know when a player dropped on Wednesday will be aavailable to be added to a team, in 3 days or when waivers run again.

What problem is there with CBS? You can run waivers any or all days of the week. You can set waiver order manually or automatically or even have it keep a running continuous order. The only problem I have is using the Auction method in "auto" mode.

Puck, this is one of the leagues I don't have to Commish in so I stay out of most of the site stuff, but I find it ironic that the excuse was something with the WW, and ours is very simple...WTF, run once a week on Wed Night, then its a FFA Thurs Morn...

Our league has used CBS for 8 years and had very few problems.

Our waiver is on Wed. and if player is cut he can not be picked up till the following week. The commish has to track who was cut incase someone tries to sneak one in, but that has happen under ten times since we used the site. On Wed it is based on record for pickups and starting Thurs it is a free for all.

CBS is pretty simple to use if you spend a little time with it.

This is what we want to do only without the commish having to keep up with anything. So does that mean you are saying if you run waivers only on Wed, then a player cut on wed is available on Sat at some point?

Well he said he was running waivers ONLY ON Wednesday so while they techincally would be available after Saturday, waivers is not running on Saturday. So dropped players would remain there until the next Wednesday when waivers runs again. Now if he were running waivers daily (Wednesdays - Saturday) then you would be able to pick up them up after wiavers runs on Saturday (which I believe happens in the wee hours of Sunday).

I am leaning towards going with Godsbrother answer here. Can any other Sportsline users chime in?

i commish a league and we are using CBS for the first time this year. I posed the exact same question to CBS and their answer is exactly what Godsbrother said. We have our only waiver period on Wednesday night and I was told by CBS that the dropped players are unavailable for pickup until the next waiver period (next wednesday). Im actually not a fan of this since we were able to pickup dropped players first-come, first-serve at AOL ... and AOL is free!! I hope CBS changes this for next year. My league-mates don't want multiple waiver periods per week. anyway, someone mentioned that commishes need to keep an eye on dropped players to make sure they're aren't pciked up before the next waiver period. Does anyone know if this is correct? I commish one league but im involved in many others .... i don't have the time to watch the dropped players.

We don't want players to be allowed for pick up until the following week to keep everything on the up and up. But if you can't pick up players top the following Wed then why would the commish have to keep up with anything?

idk ... someone mentioned that teams were able to sneak dropped players onto their team before the next waiver period. I'd like to think CBS has the proper systems in place to make sure this doesn't happen, since they're charging us money to use their service.

I'm pretty sure if you uncheck "free agent players always on waivers" box, even if you use waivers FA's can be freely picked up after waivers have run, and after they've cleared the time frame specified after being dropped.

simplified answer to the original question:

All players in the free agent pool are placed in waiver at the beginning of the week, which is like 2AM following Monday Night Football. At this point it is irrelevant whether you're on a one day waiver or two day waiver.

During the day Tuesday all owners make their waiver requests. CBS will award players based on the waiver order predetermined by record or whatever setting you use for that. Wednesday night is when the waiver is first run.

What happens after this is the first thing you can decide on CBS. Your two basic options are: (1) use waiver only for the entire week, which means (a) all players not picked up Wednesday night and (b) all players dropped by teams are placed on waiver again until the following night; or (2) use waiver only on the first day and free for all after that.

This is where the waiver period comes into play.

For Option 1) If you set your waiver period to 3 days, the players who were not picked up Wednesday night marked as (a) above are not effected by this. The players who were dropped marked as (b) above however will not be available to the waiver pool until Saturday.

For Option 2) All players who were on Waiver marked as (a) above are available free for all following the waiver process Wednesday night. This is immediate, owners can log in around 2:30am EST and wait for the waiver to complete and pick up the remaining players without waiting for a commissioner or anything. The players who were dropped marked as (b) work the same way as above, they are placed on waiver for the duration you decide. So you have free agents who can be picked up free for all style AND players on waiver.

The second option is how I run my league, it's the best waiver system out there imo. Let me know how much of this needs clarification, I've run my league on CBS since CBS had fantasy service and despite the fact that a lot of the complaints out there were true, it has come a long way and stands out as one of the best services on the Net.

So in option 2 players who are dropped are on waivers for 3 days(if we choose 3 days) and those players can be picked up when? In 3 days and at what time?
They are awarded based on the Waiver order preset at the beginning of the week by the CBS system when the Waiver runs after 3 days. Example: Player A is dropped during Wednesday's Waiver run. This process is completely driven by the CBS system. He goes on waiver and all of the owners can place a waiver request right away. Thursday night and Friday night the Waiver will run, but no players will be awarded. Saturday night, when the Waiver runs, all of those players will be awarded to teams based on the Waiver order. How the Waiver order works:At the beginning of the week teams are ranked worst to best:team1team2team3team4team5Then players are awarded during waiver using this order. Lets say team1 and team4 made requests but not team2, team3 or team5. The order after the Waiver completes will look like this:team2team3team5team1team4The teams that pick up players are sent to the bottom of the list and those teams who did not pick up anyone using the Waiver Wire remain where they are in the order. So, using the example above, team2 will have the first crack at the player on waiver on Saturday night. Picking up free agents during free-for-all does not affect the waiver order.Editing to add that the CBS Waiver Wire process runs around 2:30AM EST as previously mentioned. It's all automated.

CBS AUCTION PROCESS DEFINED - FREE AGENT BIDDING

My first league which I commish has been on CBS since its begining. 8 years now. We use the auction or free agent biddinand it has never been easier. It is all automated and I don't have to do a thing. I made my own rules for our constitution to describe exactly how the system works.

---------------------------------------

FAAB stands for Free Agent Acquisition Budget. Every add/drop is granted via a blind bidding system that is processed automatically. Each time an owner has an add/drop processed they will be placed at the bottom of the FAAB order. If there is a tie for a player, the FAAB order is used; the owner that is higher in the list will receive the player and be moved to the bottom.

each owner will go to the Transactions add-drop page and select the players to be added and dropped then a bid is entered. The team with the highest bid for that player will be awarded the player and the bid value subtracted from their budget.

Example:

Team #1 as listed in the FAAB order inputs a request for three players:

Player "a" bid of $15

Player "b" bid of $10

Player "c" bid of $10

Team # 8 as listed in the FAAB order inputs a request for three players:

Player "b" bid of $5

Player "a" bid of $25

Player "c" bid of $10

The system would look at Team #1 and look at the first player on his bid list (in this case, Player A). The system would then search through every bid submitted for Player A. The team with the highest bid for Player A would win that player. In this two team example, team 8 would be awarded Player A.

Since Team # 1 did not aquire the first player on his list (Player A), the FAAB system next references Team #1's second listed player (Player B). In the example above, Team #1 wins Player B.

The system now references the first requested player for the next team in the FAAB order.

Add/drops are handled by a automated blind bidding auction process (FAAB).

• The automated auction process runs everyday until the season starts, at which time the process will run on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

• Each team will have a starting budget of $1000.

• Zero bids are allowed.

• The tie break order will be based on prior faab run

• Dropped players will not be auctioned for at least 1 day(s)

The automated auction process runs everyday until the season starts, at which time the process will run on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Each team will have $1000 for the preseason and then I will reset eveyones $ to 1000 again once the season starts.

• Zero bids are allowed. - This means that you can add/dropp a player for free if no one else bids on that player. If a player ties your free agent bid of $0 then it will refer to the tie breaker order. Make sure you get in conditional bids if you are facing the last period before games start.

• The tie break order will be based on prior faab run - this means once you make a successfull bid you move to the bottom of the tie break order. To see the order go to Transactions -> Add/Drops. The order to start the season will be reverse order of the draft spots.

• Dropped players will not be auctioned for at least 1 day(s) . To make a bid on a player once must designate a player to drop. If a player successfully wins a player the system will automaticaly award that player to the winning teams roster and drop the desiganted player into the pool of free agents. This dropped player will not be available for pickup for 24 hours.

Team owners will have until 11:59 PM ET on the designated day(s) to submit their bids. The bids would be processed between midnight and 6 AM ET the next morning.

We have selected to run FAAB on T-W-Th-F-Sat, then your owners will have until 11:59 PM ET on T-W-Th-F-Sat nights to submit their bids. The bids would be processed between midnight and 6 AM ET on W-Th-F-Sat-Sun(respectively). On weeks with games on Thursday, the process only runs twice (T-W).

So in option 2 players who are dropped are on waivers for 3 days(if we choose 3 days) and those players can be picked up when? In 3 days and at what time?

This is the case even if I choose to just run waivers once a week?

What is the goal of this setup for you, to allow teams to pick up dropped players or to not allow teams to pick up players? Elaborate on that and this might make sense. I suggest you read CBS's documentation also, it's very easy to follow. If you tell CBS to run the waiver only once a week, it won't run again after that first time so no, that player will not be awarded until the following week when the waiver runs again. On the other hand if you tell CBS to run the waiver everyday but make your waiver three days, then it will run every day with no players awarded for 3 days since no players are actually available until the 3 day waiver period expires. This waiver period is calculated very literally by CBS on a player to player basis: if you drop someone at 5pm on Wednesday, he's not released to Waiver until 5pm Saturday, which means he is awarded that night when the Waiver runs.

Thanks in trying to make me understand. What I want to do is:Not allow dropped players to be picked up until the following Wednesday. Then a free for all after that until the waiver wire closes. I do not want dropped players to be allow to be picked up that same week. So if I understand correctly I just set the waivers to run once a week and set the time a player stays on waiversw to 1 day. Correct?

I run mine every day starting Wed. morning through Sun morning. Never believed in the once a week deal for some reason. I like it this way personally; keeps the league active.

Unless CBS has made changes since introducing FAAB, here is the problem my league has had with the automatic process. You cannot set a "preference" order of which players you most want to acquire when using the same drop player.Example:

Team 1.

Pickup C, drop B, bid $5

Pickup A, drop B, bid $10

Pickup D, drop B, bid $1

Team 2.

Pickup A, drop F, bid $11

Pickup C, drop F, bid $6

Pickup D, drop F, bid $2

Team 2 wins all 3 auctions, but they WILL NOT get player A who is at the top of their list. When the FAAB system decides that player C gets processed first, then Team 2 gets player C, and will not get player A because player F was already dropped.

So we do it with manual processing, and everyone making a request emails the commish with their preference order (without disclosing $ amounts) and the commish is trusted to not look at the emails until processing the requests.

Any chance CBS has fixed this?

I understand. Yes, setting the waiver to run only on Wednesdays and setting the waiver to 1 day will accomplish what you want. The players who were available at the beginning of the week will still be available free-for-all style until the end of the week.

No, that actually is by design. Sort of like an auction draft, being able to nominate a player first is definitely a benefit. And IIRC they order CBS looks at bids are by a waiver order format, so the team with the worst record can dictate who is auctioned first, etc. So for subsequent bidding teams, you shouldn't be able to say "Player C is my first choice and don't process my other bids until Player C is off of the board" because then you would be screwed if someone else outbids you for Player C and all of the second and third choice players have already been auctioned without you being able to bid on them. It's a love hate thing, it's the best way to dictate a system of this kind that is fair for all unless you conduct live auction free agency.

Then its an all hate thing for my league members. It totally screwed up the first few times we used it and I had to manually go back through everything. What's the point of an automated system that does not award you the player you won, and that you wanted to win more than another player due to the same drop player? If the intent is for the system to truly be an auction with 1 player at a time being bid on, then it should only be done live. How can you make blind bids when you won't even know what player is up for auction first?

Yes - We have run into that difficulty but what it made understood is to ensure you get the player you want, it might be smart to limit your drop player on a 1:1 ratio with your most desired free agent target. Once that was made clear to everyone, since we were all playing with the same rules it has not been a problem whatsoever.

I understand that is a workaround. But then you have the problem of winning multiple players (and dropping multiple players) when you only want to upgrade 1 player. For instance, say my RB3 gets injured and will be out for the season. I want to replace him (and only him) with the best possible FA RB so I put in multiple bids for several RB's to ensure that I get 1 of them. You should be able to do these multiple bids without worrying about multiple drop players - just like the waivers process. If my league is able to logically sort through it each week based on everyone's preferred order, then the automatic system at CBS could be upgraded to do the same. Or at least have the option to do it this way.
