No way is that Allen's fault. Ducasse and Dawkins doubled the DT and left Ingram unblocked. Dawkins screwed up.

I just hope Allen is a little rattled... He missed some open receivers and took way to long to find a target... With the online like it is, I hope he can take a beating.

So....if you muff a punt at the 2 and knock it into the endzone, you can't get called for a safety?? Seems like a loophole there.

It is a safety... Ball was contacted outside the end zone by the Bills, went in and recovered... That's a safety is it not?

Sooo if you muff a punt, you can swap it out the back of the end zone and be ok. That doesn't make sense.

Won’t this make it so teams just run and kick the ball to the back out of the end zone if the punting team is trying to down it close to the goal line? I think the refs messed up that call.

Well, you can't intentionally kick or bat the ball.

Well, at least this game has been more entertaining with Allen under center.  He hasn't played very well, but you can see the potential.

From the NFL rulebook (Rule 7, Section 2):

"An official shall declare the ball dead and the down ended (q) when a runner's helmet comes completely off"

Play should have been declared dead as soon as his helmet came off. Therefore, it should have been a safety.

If there was a late hit after the ball was dead, then it should have been enforced on the safety kick.

Yes, that is the rule. I understand that. I was just giving a reasoning behind the safety not being called. Also in the flow of the game, the ref may not have seen the helmet off before the hit and thought the hit was the reason for the helmet coming off. That would make it not reviewable.
