Chartsme.com Asks you 27 non-political questions to see your political leanings (1 Viewer)

My brain is a Democrat because I'm not squeamish?  I respond to the thought of Hillary becoming president with extreme disgust.
Maybe, but if you're sane, far less disgust than the thought of Trump as president.

60/40 Dem

Max aside, the test seems to have done pretty well.  A lot of people are about where you'd expect based on their postings.

It says I have a Democrat brain,  67%/33%.  In 40 years of voting I have never voted for a Democrat on a ballot.  I have, occasionally voted for a Republican.  Generally my vote goes to a third party if one is available.

Anyone interested in the research behind the disgust/purity connection to our moral foundations (and thus political leanings) should look up Jon Haidt.  One of the smartest people on the planet.

77% Liberal, 23% Conservative

And that was including answering the milk question high on the disgusted spectrum. I really don't like milk much to begin with, but if there's a whiff of it starting to turn, get that #### away from me. And it damn near starts to smell like it's turning to me the day it's bought.

No problem with most of that other stuff though.

How does this work?

A 2014 study concluded that people who were more prone to disgust are more conservative and tend to align with the republican party. But, why?

Some scientists believe it's ancestral and that the adverse reactions were used to protect primitive ancestors from contamination and disease. This way a person wouldn't confuse drinking water with dirty pond scum.

The study measured participants' brain response to "disgusting" imagery using an MRI. The study could predict party affiliation with up to 98% confidence. The questionaire on chartsme.com uses Jonathan Haidt's disgust scale in lieu of MRI and imagery, so results are likely far less accurate. Watch TED Talk to learn more or read "Yuck!: The Nature and Moral Significance of Disgust".
Here's the TED talk mentioned.  It's quite interesting but, I guess, not surprising.

Dead bodies and pieces thereof did not disgust me, but I do hate sour or curdled milk.  If I had not reacted to that I may have tested even more liberal.

mine said i was 100 percent the rent is too damned high party crazy take that to the bank bromigos

The quiz really isn't that complex.  It's not considering the types of things you're disgusted by, it's just measuring how prone to disgust you are.  (And the more disgusted, the more conservative you are.)

26% conservative/74% liberal  My brain is a Democrat.

I have been a Republican for my entire voting life and have voted Republican probably 90% of the time (100% in presidential elections).  In recent years, however, I have been drifting further and further from what the republican party.  In some other online quiz thingy I matched Gary Johnson 74% and all other candidates were all below 50%

When I was a kid, we had just come home on a Sunday from a week long vacation. Getting up the next morning, I poured myself a bowl of cereal and added the milk. Took a big ol bite before I realized the milk had gone bad during the week we were gone.  :X

Ever since then I smell milk even if it is freshly bought from the store. And I usually throw out milk before the expiration date, even if it still smells ok. Just absolutely :hot: sour or spoiled milk

My brain is a democrat because I don't get disgusted easily.....24% GOP vs 76% Dem.

I think it's safe to say that the terms GOP and Democrat have officially lost all valuable meaning.

There's been much talk in the last 10ish years that the Republican party itself is moving toward more extreme (less centrist) positions and, by necessity, leaving some of their longtime supporters to either join suit or find another party.  I don't know if this is your personal experience or, perhaps, you yourself have changed with age, but it's the first thing I thought of after reading your post.

So the more things gross you out the more conservative you are? I got 51% conservative, 49% liberal. Guess I'm leaning towards being a big #####.

Weird test.  Like has been said, not sure how having a weaker stomach makes you more of a Republican.

Regardless, I got 55% conservative and 45% liberal, which is probably pretty accurate.

So, a higher "disgust impulse" is purportedly a good indicator of conservative views?  I'm not sure I buy it but, if true, I wonder if the reverse is true.  I mean, if we increase the number of really gross disgusting posts could that repel the conservative posters enough to change the balance of the forum?

Some of them were conditional, I don't worry about cleaning public toilets because I don't use them. #homepooper

I would guess something along the lines of the questions like you not liking to touch a dead body/dead cat/ashes etc mean you rely more on the police/other authorities to take care of that part of society, therefore are more supportive of their overall work and duties, which is more stereotypically associated with conservative values.

I could see how stricter views of right/wrong could be associated with the same things that make people feel more disgusted by certain things. They both also seem to be related to needing to feel a sense of control about the world around you. A fear of losing control and watching it all got to hell.

None of things in that questionnaire are likely to hurt you, but people feel more in control, and thus safer, by avoiding them.

Re-watching Trump's RNC speech would probably make all this make a ton of sense.

It makes sense to me.  Uptight, scared-of-everything Conservatives vote that everything disgusts them.  Democrats are tolerant of EVERYTHING including disguting #### like on the test, and the normal people fall somewhere in the middle between the two extremes.

Democrats: party of necrophiliacs, scat porn enthusiasts, and cockroach milk drinkers.
