***Chicago Bears Thread*** Ben Johnson hired. The Resurrection Begins! (7 Viewers)

I can pitch an argument for two of top three WRs assuming a trade down but I don’t believe Wash or NE are going to move up. AZ will run to the podium to get Harrison. Now its plausible they can draft Harrison at 1 and possibly snag Odunze at 9 but teams are going to want playmakers so chances are slim. Last year was a rarity w the Carolina move. Teams are going to be more conservative with trading into first round or inching up two spots. I think Harrison and Taliese Fuaga would be solid moves. I would be happy w that move
You want to guarantee you're picking in the top ten for the next decade? Take Marvin Harrison at 1.
I am gauranteed to land the most NFL ready low risk player out of the top ten picks. Harrison adds instant value day one. If the Bears are picking top ten next decade it all points to ownership. Who else can be blamed?
MHJ at pick 1 would be a bad pick. Maybe not in EVERY year, but it would be this year. If they truly want MHJ, trade down to 3.
Struggling to understand why this would be a bad pick. Its yet another high risk maybe we get the next Stroud or Mohomes vs. WR prodigy instant plug and play. I haven’t seen one draft class ranking or expert poll that would suggest MHJ would be a bad pick. MHJ Kmet DJ Swift Fields and a shot at an improved OL is in reach. Looks like a win to me.
No. Terrible value taking a WR at one

You're pushing against the implied value of Caleb and the corresponding desire to be done with Fields. I chuckle imagining an announcement that they've traded down. Bears nation will make two loud sounds. Boos from those wanting Fields gone, and the cheers of those who don't. I think it's a win win. One choice will prove better than the other in time, but I'm not moved by any strong opinions to which that is. For a non fan, it's fun to observe for sure. But if it was me, with what little that matters, I'd take the rookie qb contract. Get him my highest graded player between available OTs and WRs at 9, and start anew.

The thing that gives me pause isn't that I like Fields more than most. It's that this is a team that wants to kick@ss for him. I think keeping him would motivate this team like Campbell motivates the Lions. DJ is on record saying Fields is better than Caleb right now. Do you want to disappoint your best offensive weapon? He's a professional so it shouldn't matter, but it just makes me wonder.

Harrison is more bust proof than Caleb too. Caleb is swinging for the fences. Harrison is seeking safe steady improvement. But yeah, I agree strongly with Flapgreen above. You trade down for Harrison to a spot knowing you get him, and get big value consideration in the move. You do not take him 1st overall.

Yep, the perceived value of the QBs in this class make the #1 (and #2) picks worth a great deal. Taking MHJ at #1 is wasting the value of at least another 1st and 2 2nd round picks (maybe more).

Struggle no more, here ya go:
If they don't take a QB at 1, then you're basically punting on QB. Fields is ok, but he isn't top half of the league for sure.
This means you are waiting even longer on QB, meaning by the time you actually get one, MHJ (if he ends up a stud), will be needing a 35 million dollar a year contract, plus if he actually is a stud the team will probably win enough games to be out of a top 3 pick every year.
It's a bad use of resources, especially when you don't have a QB

We're signing center Coleman Shelton from the Rams.
I can get down with that signing. He's not the level of talent that I'd was hoping for, but he's in his prime and a solid addition.
By PFF metrics he was essentially a league average center in '23. It could be worse...but Poles is going to have to show something for the wad of cash he had to work with.

If this signing, and that of Bates, gives the Bears some draft flexibility, I can live with it. Still would like to see a day 2 center.

I take Harrison 1st overall all day. Obviously a trade down is higher priority but if it doesn’t happen no way am I taking Williams and dealing w a two QB mess that would be a never ending drama. It has to be Fields trade than Williams pick and for some reason that trade is not happening. Some say it’s because Fields is a complete bust. Cannot get a third rounder for him. Hmmmm well maybe Poles already made up his mind and told 4 GMs not moving Fields but willing to talk trade down if you want Williams. Someone’s bluff is going to be called very soon. Frankly Im in on keeping Fields and surrounding him w talent and a real OL not some bargain basement crew that is a constant IR mess. The Bears called their shot on the franchise QB and traded up only to surround this guy w incompetence, bad defenses and subpar playmakers on offense. Can’t win w a swiss cheese OL a rookie QB and Monty. If Fields is a bust next year you move on. Best case scenario is clearly two spot trade down, Harrison then stud OL then fix that DL. Not sure teams are going to move up after seeing what happened to Carolina last season.

Center Coleman Shelton signed a one year deal with the Bears today. He started all 17 games for the Rams last year and was PFFs 17th-ranked center for 2023.

We're signing center Coleman Shelton from the Rams.
Well, there's 2 centers to compete.
Hope we don't have another Lucas Patrick on our hands. Poles unwilling to spend on such an important position for the second time now. We shall see....
He's probably a sideways move from Patrick as a pass blocker, but a huge upgrade as a run blocker. He opened a lot of holes for Kyren Williams last season.

Bates is probably a better overall player, Buffalo made their OL worse by benching him.

Good move. Holds a SB ring. Rams wanted to keep him but invested in his replacement last year. Tied to Waldron.

Poles and the Bears organization are looking like absolute fools with how they're handling the Fields and Williams situation. This is very typical for the Bears and continues to show their incompetency as an organization. I absolutely would not want to come here, if I were Williams now. These people are idiots

I still think the offseason is salvageable.

The Shelton signing was solid.

DJ Wonnum comes in tonight and hopefully gets an offer.

Still good WRs out there and now Corey Davis looks to be back in the mix. I think the Bears need to sign at least two.

No homerun signings, but they could potentially improve at QB1, RB1, WR2-4 TE2, Center, Edge and Safety in the same offseason.

Respect the frustration. We are all there. The blunders since the day they lost in the playoffs to the Eagles when they refused to upgrade a kicker. This is complete rebuild so it takes time. Getting key pieces is critical regardless of where they go in the draft. If they blow this draft its going to be seriously bad. Not worth investing time in the McCasky Bears if its another Titanic

Just trade the pick again and keep Fields. The Bears don’t deserve nice things.

I've seen this exact thing many times over with the Bears. It's always a complete rebuild. It's the Bears. Does not excuse how they're handling the Fields situation and only demonstrates it's the same franchise that it's always been. If I'm a player just hitting my prime, I stay as far away from the Bears as possible.

Yes agree its like a dead zone. Im 50 years Bears fan in Texas so watching Texans work helps ease the pain.

I'm giggling at how Poles tried to move Caleb's visit up, likely because he wanted to see him right away and then shop Fields at the combine. Caleb said nope! Then, the NFL told Poles this week that Fields stinks and Poles looks like an idiot.

Chris Emma

The Bears have agreed to terms with tackle Jake Curhan, his agent

said. An undrafted free agent out of California, he played 29 games with nine starts over three seasons with the Seahawks. Another addition for the offensive line

Scoopage… Bears have traded for WR Keenan Allen sending Chargers a fourth rounder. @NFLonFOX

A 4th rounder????????????????

Practically stealing. DJ Moore/Keenan Allen is honestly instantly the best combo the Bears have had since that short run of Marshall/Jeffery.

Outstanding move, as a WR probably isn't gonna be there at #9, and now they can take anything. Great news for Caleb (I assume)

ETA: Thrilled to see my favorite team add my favorite WR. This is probably a top-5 WR combo in the NFL.

I am excited and I like Allen a lot. Giving just the 4th makes this a good deal. But sorry guys, as a negative Bears fan I do have to mention 32 years old when the season starts and 1 full season in the last 4. 🤔

Would still want a WR at 9, if any of the top 3 are there and the top OL are gone.

I think we will see 3 straight qbs followed by 3 straight wrs.

I wonder if the Bears may get a deal done with Allen, maybe a reduction and some guaranteed money next year.

23 mill is a lot for a one year rental.

I'd bet heavily on Alt going 7 at the latest. I agree that I think they like Jones at LT.

If they REALLY wanna go all out on surrounding Caleb (I assume) with weapons, they could take Bowers at #9. I could get behind Dallas Turner or preferably Byron Murphy at 9.

I think this is looking a lot like a playoff team right now, if Eberflus keeps the defense at the level they finished the season at.

It is exciting and while we usually don't see a number one pick going to a team like this, it is very rare to make the playoffs with a rookie qb.

Reading these last 5ish pages makes my head hurt. You got Carolina to trade you DJ Moore and 4 picks for Bryce Young and now you have the qb of your choice and you want a wr? Just incase Fields gets good some where else? You guys got a gift from God and are like nah hold my beer and watch this.

I thought Philly fans were the worst about letting a guys go and being worried about them being good for another team, but you all are taking this to a whole new level.

In recent years, the Texans and Patriots made the playoff with rookie QBs, and the Steelers probably would have with Pickett if they hadn't dug such a hole with Trubisky, they were only 1 game out. Likewise Tua only missed by 1 game as a rookie. Lamar also made it as a rookie, though he didn't take over until midseason.

Bears return for No. 1 pick in the 2023 draft ...

• OT Darnell Wright*.
• WR Keenan Allen*.
• CB Tyrique Stevenson**.
• WR DJ Moore.
• First overall pick in 2024 draft.
• Second-round pick in 2025 draft.

Fully admit I kind of want to see the Bears trade 1.01 again just so this list can grow more. And it's already a great haul.
