***Chicago Bears Thread*** Ben Johnson hired. The Resurrection Begins! (11 Viewers)

Terrible move. The OL was unprepared and unorganized the majority of the season. Now we expect Morgan to run the RB and OL room?

I saw they brought in Jennifer King to be the assistant RB coach.

O line was more steady than you give them credit for. Tackles were the same all season. Interior had some injury issues and Davis had issues with a sick mom and he didn't seem to play to his level. Not saying they were a top ten unit but I don't think they were bottom ten like how they're treated in here.
PFF grades for our interior line
Jenkins 13 of 79
Davis 58 of 79
Whitehair 73 of 79
Patrick 30 of 36

When Jenkins was out the IOL was definitely bottom tier.

Breer reporting the Bears should have the details in place by next week for trading Fields, so either way, it looks like he's being moved at some point.
Any rumors where he's going?
Sounding like Pittsburgh
“REPORT: The Chicago Bears have received 2 trade offers for QB Justin Fields.

One offer from the Atlanta Falcons & The other offer from the Las Vegas Raiders! The Bears are still deciding whether to keep Fields or trade him and take Caleb Williams #1 overall in the draft

I think they allowed one sack when Bagient started. It can be upgraded, but it’s not the top priority with the exception of C.

Fields made them look worse than they were by holding the ball way too long. I’ve pointed out in his thread he had more pocket time than any QB in the NFL.

Likely all smoke at this point, but they're definitely moving him. The more they can make it seem like there's multiple suitors the better the return. Once Shefter hops in, I'll listen.

Pocket time is a team stat. It's a function of so much more than the just QB that it's disingenuous to use it as a metric to evaluate a QB.

ETA - here's a neat article that talks about QBR differences between Mahomes and Tua. Both successful with Pocket Time on different ends of the spectrum.

My thoughts from the season are that Getsy's insistance on screens for the short passing game made that aspect predictable. In contrast Mike McD's offense was so much more vibrant and innovative that it masked a good number of OL problems as well as some of Tua's flaws.

All I’m saying is Fields had just as much (more) time than any other QB. You can’t really disparage Chicago’s line if that’s the case.

Did you actually watch any of the games? Fields had time to throw, especially early on, because he used his legs to get out of rapidly collapsing pockets. I'll be the first to acknowledge that Fields has his flaws, but his OL was hot garbage for most of the season. In fairness they did pull it together some for the late stretch of games. My point about the OL and specifically the coach is that the unit was woefully underprepared to enter the season. The first 3-4 games they looked like they had never played the positions before, especially the interior OL.

You’re going to know your team better than me. Just quoting a statistic.

I watched several Bears games including all of week 2 against the Bucs. He had enormous amounts of time in that game.

This is simply incorrect and bias for Fields. The OL was not remotely hot garbage. Not great but nowhere as bad as previous seasons and improved. I wouid love to see them grab a tackle at 9

Are they even gonna get a 1st for Fields?
You say it like it's the least they should take. If no one will give a first, then he's not worth a first.
Im saying that cause if they can't even get a 1st, I'm wondering if the better route is to keep him and trade the #1.
I don't think Fields is great or anything, but I also don't think there is a great QB to take at 1. I mean, maybe, but just sayin.....

I'm glad its finally combine week and we'll get some resolution on the QB issue in the next couple of weeks. I'm worn out from it. The trade rumors aren't even fun anymore. I get the vibe that Caleb Williams is the pick at 1. WR/DE at 9, but I think there is a high likelihood of trading down.

When mid-tier starting QBs are getting $40M AAV it's a huge advantage to have a rookie QB. Especially one with tremendous talent.

The Bears can completely turn their franchise around with this off-season. Good chance they're a playoff team next year if they play their cards right. Houston-esque turnaround.

Gotta take your shot. Team is improving and their average qb is on the verge of wanting or getting a 2nd contract. Bears unlikely to get a top 3 pick again next year. The team is ready to take the next step and in a position to set up a rookie QB to grow.

Not a Bears fan, but they better take a qb with this pick and it is especially stupid if they just hold onto Fields because someone won't give them a first for their below average qb. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.

I think OT is also likely at #9, maybe DB if someone blows up and separates in workouts

I could see an Alt or Fashanu there. Bears could use an upgrade over Braxton, but WR/Pass Rush would have to have been addressed with big time FAs to go that route imo.

I like the #9 pick before a tier drop shortly after. 3x QBs, MHjr, Nabers, Odunze, Alt, Dallas Turner, Bowers... I'd be happy with any of those last 5.

I would hate Turner at 9. 240-ish pound DE is not what I want that high, even if he is a 4.45 type athlete. Personally, I'm not he's better than Verse or Latu.

I wouldn't mind Fuaga there, I think he and Fashanu are equals. I agree Kmet should prevent a Bowers addition. He'd be ideal at #9 I think.

I love what Turner brings. He jumps off the tape to me. Pair him with Sweat and that pass Rush is going to get up field.

I like Bowers as the BPA and think the Bears really need to prioritize an offensive weapon at 9. If the three big WRs are gone I'd be a lot more open to trade back.

Did someone mention they should draft a QB AND keep Fields??

I'm sticking with my original projection: Williams and Odunze.
Now, if Chicago signs a stud WR (Evans or Pittman), obviously that changes. I think the big FA they go after is Danielle Hunter though, thus the WR prediction at 1.9.

not sure if this has been posted somewhere yet but this is from today's Peter King column. Food for thought...

  • I suppose the Bears are going to trade the top pick. I know nothing, but that seems to be the way the wind is blowing. What I say: The Bears could keep Justin Fields (and should), and trade the first pick down once or twice, and build the kind of supporting cast a team needs to contend. Suppose GM Ryan Poles traded the top pick down one spot to Washington (which would take Caleb Williams), and got the second pick, a second-round pick and a 2025 first-round pick in return. Then suppose Poles traded the second pick to Atlanta at eight, and the Falcons picked one of the other quarterbacks. In return, Chicago gets the eighth pick, Atlanta’s second-round pick, and first- and second-round picks next year. Imagine moving from 1 to 8 and ending up with this draft haul:
    • The eighth and ninth (their own) overall picks in round one this year.
    • Second-round picks from Washington and Atlanta this year.
    • Three first-round picks and two second-round picks in 2025.
For moving down seven picks in the first round, the Bears could end up with nine picks in the first two rounds of the next two drafts. Instant infrastructure.

If I was running Chicago, with that cap space, I would be grabbing a top DL. Christian Wilkins, Brian Burns, Bryce Huff. One of these guys. Give Sweat a running mate

I know he’s getting older, but the Bears should consider signing Laken Tomlinson who just got released by the Jets. He’s a Chicago boy (Lane Tech HS) and I’d think he’d enjoy playing for his hometown Bears.

I think that is my ideal offseason as well. Willams, Odunze and Hunter would be a tremendous haul.

Bears can use mid-level money to address Center, FS, WR 2/3, TE2 and DL. If they get a 2nd for JF, I'd hope it goes to a big body on the OL or DL.

C - Cushenberry
FS - Geno Stone
WR3 - Curtis Samuel
TE2 - Noah Fant

RB in Rd 3 or 4. I think the Bears need to upgrade from Herbert. He's better in the 1B role. Roshon is solid as a 3rd option.

Can't say I know much about him. Could be some good depth.

I have bolded and underlined the "supposed" part of PK's post.

A lot of people are reading into Poles and Flus' comments over the last couple of days, but I tend to be in agreement that reading between the lines we are drafting a QB this draft.

Flus' comments we along the lines of prioritizing an offense that can perform well in the 2 minute drill and late in the 4th. Two things Fields hasn't shown consistently.

Poles' talked about how the Bears have built a great foundation for a young QB to step in to.

Terrible move. The OL was unprepared and unorganized the majority of the season. Now we expect Morgan to run the RB and OL room?

O line was more steady than you give them credit for. Tackles were the same all season. Interior had some injury issues and Davis had issues with a sick mom and he didn't seem to play to his level. Not saying they were a top ten unit but I don't think they were bottom ten like how they're treated in here.

Williams can actually read a defense

Top priority in FA should be either Connor Williams or Cushenberry. So sick of having a bad center. We were spoiled by Kreutz.
I think both those guys are strong candidates to re-sign.
Are any of the top 3 OCs (Sedrick Van Pran, Jackson Powers-Johnson, and Zach Frazier) ready to start from go? I don't hate spending a 2nd or 3rd on one of those guys, athough I suspect at least 2 will be gone by the end of the 2nd.

I have heard great things about JPJ, especially from the senior bowl, but I think he will be gone by the end of the first round. I'm hoping for Van Pran in the 4th or later, but don't know if he will last that long.
