***Chicago Bears Thread*** Ben Johnson hired. The Resurrection Begins! (11 Viewers)

Pretty quiet on the Bears front lately. Just a bunch of rumors about trade deadline deals that mostly feel like wishful thinking. I'm still hoping Herbert gets traded because I like him, but he clearly isn't a fit with what Waldron wants to do.

I'm also a little bummed that Jaden Daniels is trending towards not playing this weekend. I really wanted to see the top 2 picks square off and it would feel like a quality W if the Bears won.

Oh c'mon man. If we have an easier path to a win you don't poo poo that.

I'm a Washington fan and feel the same way (except I want the W to go the other way of course). But the 2 of them will probably meet numerous times in their careers.

Normally I'd be ok with it but I'm eager to see the Bears play a good team.

The next three weeks (assuming Daniels doesn't play) The Bears should be favored to win.

They could be 7-2 going into the second half of the season and I still wouldn't feel confident they are a playoff team.

I agree. It will be nice to see the NFC develop an elite QB rivalry. I think these two have a chance to do that.

Honestly, it's kind of refreshing going into the bye week without the drama train rolling through or a coach on the hot seat. It's been decade(s) since I've seen a Bears team this gelled, locked in, and drama free.

Take a look at the schedule after those 3. Hardest in the league.

Oh, I know. I don't expect a winning record over that stretch.

What does everyone think of the Myles Garrett rumors. I'd love to get him, but that price tag......
I saw 2 1sts (2025 and 2026) PLUS booker. For that price, no thank you. Maybe one first round pick and Booker? Honestly at this point if we can't add a piece at a good price, I would say that we keep our draft picks and build on both sides of the ball.

Agreed. Mid season of Caleb's rookie year is not the time to break the bank for something that isn't a glaring need. I'd rather save that cap space and use the draft picks on OL in 2025 when Caleb will be starting to hit his stride.

Yeah, that's what I saw too. To be honest, the can ask anything, but if they want to trade him (rumors are he's less than happy) than there has to be a middle ground. Maybe you hit the nail on the head with the 1st and Booker.

I would be very excited to see Garrett on the other side of Sweat this year, but if Booker became the next Maxx crosby (they were both drafted in the 4th) , I would be pretty sad. I want the bears to go 100% all in during Caleb's window, just not sure what exactly that looks like. IF Poles makes a big move, I will give him the benefit of the doubt.............just please not another malcontent like Claypool.

That was the game I needed to come back to reality.

Bears were only in it because Washington kept hurting themselves.

Waldron is atrocious. A hand-off to a backup OL?!?!

Please fire this staff at the end of the year.

8-9 sounds about right.

this is posted in the game thread by someone else. Thought you boys should know what your DB was doing while the play was going on. At least he stopped taunting the fans and got back in the play to tip it to our guy.
that's wild. Bears probably win the game if he stays taunting the fans during teh play.

What the hell was wrong with Caleb the first 3 quarters? Almost like he was too hyped up. Everything was so far overthrown. Played great in the fourth though.

Shane Waldron is on record as not being an OC who scripts his plays and I think it's the reason we're coming out sluggish every single week. Honestly, I'm surprised that with a rookie QB he doesn't script his first 15 so that everyone is on the same page and they can walk through the script on Friday before the game. It would also serve to settle Caleb down since he's often really hyped up during the first quarter of a game.

For the record, I think Caleb will be fine in time. The gameplan is trash, his OLine is subpar and Waldron is at best a mid-tier OC. Caleb still has a unique ability to elevate his game in crunch time.

For every awesome play Waldron dials up, there are at least 4-5 terrible calls. Not even bad calls, but terrible.

Waldron has no faith we can get one tough yard with Roschon. How many dumb ways can he screw up 3rd and 4th and 1? Like seriously... He's screwed that up like 6 different ways this season so far.

Flus and Waldron are average coaches. This team will remain average with them running the show.

Oh man.

Follow up from the player in question

He dropped in the draft due to character concerns. The kid has talent, but as soon as I heard a Bears DB was acting a fool, I knew it was going to be Stevenson.

Morning show guys are roasting Flus for giving the Commanders that 15 yards free play without even putting a guy near the sidelines. Bears put 6 defending the goal line on that play.

I'm done commenting on the coaching. It's been bad enough for so long that I just can't anymore.
Oh for Fs sake... I just saw the clip where Flus said that 13 yard gain "didn't matter".

And Roschon has never failed when given the chance it seems.

4 damn targets for Moore. Just unacceptable.

If you properly defend that and force the guy away from the sideline the game is over. Flus is an idiot for saying that play didn't matter.

Its insane. ESPN has been on in the office all day and every show has lead with the Hail Mary play. Sounds like 90% of analysts are putting that Bears L on coaching and Flus goes to his standard "we just need to execute better" garbage.

Bears weren't even using their good pass rushers while only bringing 3 tired DL.

Yes I noticed Sweat wasn't out there.

Also, how isn't Kmet or Marcedes Lewis on that hail Mary defense? Two biggest dudes that can move and jump. Just such a failure on so many levels.

This is squarely on coaching. #1 - Didn't call a timeout to make sure that you had the best personnel on the field and everyone was no the same page; #2 - rushing 3 guys and having a spy on Daniels allowing him all day to throw.

Exactly. Belichick was on one these programs talking about the importance of putting a jump ball WR back there to play Defense on hail mary plays. Bears have several receiving options who are 6'3 plus.

Not having Sweat in is also inexcusable.

Listened to Flus' interview with the local radio today and I've never been more infuriated with a HC.

No accountability for anyone. Everything he did was right. He almost sounded proud of himself and the team.

110% a lost cause of a HC.

The Bears are impossible to take seriously as a contender as long as they have this coaching staff. Bears fans should be rooting for a string of losses to finish the season so Eberflus gets shown the door, rather than winning enough games to make the organization think he knows what he is doing as a head coach. Great DC obviously, dreadful head coach.

That Hail Mary is succeeding in taking away all the attention from the absurd call of handing off to a lineman at the goal line. So there's that

This is my feeling. I'm still rooting for W's, but missing the playoffs should result in Flus/Waldron being let go. Assuming Ben Johnson hits the market, the Bears need to break open the check book.

Crazy enough, Flus backed that play call when asked about it. He claims its a good play, they just "didn't execute". Because giving a lineman with zero career carries in crunch time is a highly successful play.

That was the play that gave them the chance to win.
It moved them from their 35 to the their 48. Which put them in Hail Mary range. Or if they get tackled in bounds the game is over. Flus wants to chalk it up to a meaningless play, but that's why he isn't a good coach.

The ChatSports guy broke down Flus' time as HC real well.

2-10 against division opponents
3-17 on the road
2-16 vs teams with winning records when they played them - (one was the Josh Dobbs game against the Vikings which the Bears won 12-10)

In his last 20 games, the Bears have lost 4x times when they had a 91%+ win probability late in the 4th.
Denver - 98% win probablity and lost
Detroit - 98% win probability and lost
Cleveland - 91% win probability and lost
Washington - 96% win probability and lost

He can't finish. He can't beat good teams. He can't win on the road. He is not a good coach.

Agree, Daniels throw would have landed a little short or just at the goal line until it was tipped. Hold the previous play to a 5 yard out and there is no chance to make it to the goal line. Plus if they covered the WRs Daniels may have been forced to launch it or throw it short and have to lateral back and forth.

Had to believe a NFL coach would make a mistake like that. Any comments from the coaches about the previous play?

What does that do to Caleb? I really don't want him to end up in the same cycle as Trubisky and Fields and get traded to the Steelers as a back up for peanuts.

I'm still trying to figure out why #53 was being used as a spy on the last play.

All gaps exposed. Coaches and OL need a complete rehaul. Didn’t think they were going to play this bad. The defense has completely caved. That hail Mary was close to the final nail. Next week NE after that they are going to lose out or come close to losing out. Better hope Caleb doesn’t get hurt. Can only take so many hits
