***Chicago Bears Thread*** Ben Johnson hired. The Resurrection Begins! (3 Viewers)

Would you try to trade up 5 picks or so to secure Green or Johnson? I like both players a lot.
Id make a call for sure, but its still shaping up to be a lot of decent options at 39/41.
At this point I believe those two are the clear best options. At CB sometimes players just drop. Look at the two Philly got last year.
Those may be the 2 best options, but man, there are about 10 guys I'd be happy with at those picks, so I think, if they make it to 39-41, great, easy picks. If they don't very happry with what does.

Is Kmet tradable? KC using their new 5th rounder from Philly as a Kelce backup/replacement wouldn't be so bad.
Not sure - drawing an assumption here but Johnson mentioned that he is looking to strip down the offense and build it based on a variety of skill sets to create mismatches and opportunities the team can exploit for success.

I believe the team is going to lev the talents of Kmet and Loveland based on the differences in what they can bring to the table. I think Loveland is going to stretch the field more a la a hybrid of a TE and WR whereas Kmet is going to play in more of a traditional TE. Can they both be on the field for a large % of snaps and be effective? Don't know but if they can prove to be productive on the field together, they could create headaches with the other playmakers on offense (DJ, Rome and Swift).

As a fan, I was absolutely disgusted when Martz came in and had Olsen moved to the Panthers. Martz, the "genius" could not leverage Olsen's talents? He was supposed to be this genius. Not saying Kmet is an Olsen but he is at the peak of his career and should be able to produce at a high level if Williams takes a huge step forward and the new OL is effective. I think this points to a hold but then again it's the NFL and anything can happen.

Yeah I'm just a bit bummed as a Kmet dynasty holder considering Ben coming in was a bullish move for him, but this is a good pick for the Bears regardless of what they want to do with Kmet.

If it's any consolation - if Kmet is still a part of the team's future plans, his experience might put him in the driver's set for a very productive year especially in the red zone.

A lot of good EDGE & CB options available in rd2 with the Bears 1 pick away, including the two big fallers. A few plausible options on offense like RB Henderson & OL Ersery.

WR Luther Burden is the funniest available option who could still be a nice pick, after all this talk about 12 personnel and Loveland playing in the slot. That'd be the kind of pick where everyone asks what the heck they're thinking, and then 2 years from now he's an important part of a good offense.

Funniest it is! I love it for the offense.

In Ben Johnson I trust. Not how I expected the draft to go, but I’d be a hypocrite to hate on this draft and love the Ben Johnson pickup. These are his guys, period.

Colston Loveland + Luther Burden gives them a bunch of receiving talent. Burden has a skillset that they were missing - he can do those gadget plays which DJ Moore is getting too old for, and he has some downfield skills. Doesn't have Jameson Williams' field-stretching speed but he brings a lot of what Williams did to the Lions. Ben Johnson can use him well.

This gives them 5 starter-type guys at WR & TE and they can only play 4 at once (Moore, Odunze, Burden, Loveland, Kmet). Probably they won't all be on the roster 2 years from now (a Kmet trade seems most likely), but for now they can use different personnel groupings, rotate good players in when guys need a breather, and still have plenty of good receiving options if any of them miss time with injuries. Usually situations that look like 'too many mouths to feed' in the preseason don't look that way in week 14.

I think that the Loveland pick didn't depend on running lots of 2 TE sets. It's about trying to hit on a difference maker - an elite TE adds way more to an offense than a solid TE does, Kmet is a solid TE, and Loveland could become an elite TE.

Trapilo's evolution into an All-ACC performer mirrors his physical development. His 2023 campaign announced his arrival as a genuine NFL prospect, posting a clean sheet with zero sacks allowed in 363 pass-blocking snaps while anchoring an offensive line that bulldozed their way to nearly 200 rushing yards per game. The 2024 season saw him elevate his game further, earning First-Team All-ACC honors and establishing himself as one of the conference's premier pass protectors.

Bills trade 56, 62 and 109 (fourth round) for #Bears 41, 72 (third round), 240 (seventh round)
I usually like trade-downs but I didn't like this one, especially given who they took at 56 & 62. Trapilo & Turner were both projected to go in the 70s, so probably one of them would've been there at 72, which means that moving up from 72 to 62 didn't do much good. And a lot of good players went between 41 & 56, like Ezeiruaku, Scourton, Will Johnson, and Ersery.

The trade value charts that usually like trade-downs only see this as a slight increase in value, since it was a 3-for-3 trade. And the way board has looked & their picks have played out makes it worse.

Im happy enough with the trade. Ozzy was probably the last OT in his tier. Another OT didn't even get drafted until 91 overall and he might be moved to Guard.

Turner is fine for where the Bears got him. 3 other DTs went between 64 and 72, so the run was on.

Plus the 107 is looking like a prime spot to add a RB. Still 3-4 solid prospects out there. Wouldn't have been available without the trade.

Ok, I've looked at everything with fresh eyes this morning (meaning I'm not 3 bourbons deep) and I still don't like this draft at all. No aggression. I'm reading now that Loveland was a panic pick because, literally, the two o-lineman and McMillan were the next three players on their board.
Burden is , what, the 4th or 5th best wr in what is considered a very weak class. Green or Will Johnson should have been the pick.
Ozzy and Turner fit needs, but I had guys way ahead of them. Green absolutely was one of them.
Overall I think this draft is a C grade right now. Just disappointed I guess as to what could have been.
