Brett Jackson is hitting .121/.194/.273 at Iowa with a 47% SO rate. It's sad to see a prospect fail this completely.

I had him rostered in an NL only all of 2012, waiting on the call up.

To be expected. All I really hoped for this season was a bounce back from Castro and Rizzo. I feel like we're seeing that. Welington Castillo looks like an every day catcher. If Samardzija keeps it up he should bring a pretty nice package at the deadline.

There are some positives here...

Definitely. Someone pointed out that the Cubs and Yankees are both -10 in runs this season, yet the Yankees are in first place.

The outfield they run out there every day is not big league caliber. None of those guys will be on the team in two years.

At some point we'll be looking at:

Alcantara - 2B

Almora - CF

Castro - SS

Rizzo - 1B

Bryant - LF

Baez - 3B

Soler - RF

Castillo - C

That's filthy.

Biggest disappointment so far?

Olt? I really thought he was going to take the opportunity and run with it. I thought at least he'd be a defensive upgrade. But Valbuena has looked better than him both offensively and defensively.

potentially filthy

I think Theo will have to shuffle some pieces to acquire pitching help. Their top minor league arm C.J. Edwards was shut down a couple of weeks ago.

Yes, potentially.

Scherzer, Iwakuma, Lester, Masterson, and Shields are all free agents. David Price will be available. It will be interesting to see how they approach the rotation build.

At this point they will need about 3-4 of those guys
adding 2 of those guys would give them a top notch rotation.

The current ERA is good for #15 in all of baseball.

Pitching is not their biggest problem

This team can't hit. Bottom in almost every offensive category

No crap dingus. I believe we were talking about the future rotation. I don't expect any of these guys to be around in a few years besides possibly Wood. But thanks for telling me their offense sucks

You're stupid, post made me look

Do you realize that the Cubs only have a handful of guys with contracts that extend past this year.

Kyle Hendricks is going to make his major league debut this week. He's the prospect from Texas they got for Ryan Dempster. he was the Cubs minor league pitcher of the year in 2013.

Is Castro considered good at defense now by those of you that watch him frequently? I vaguely remember him struggling early in his career, but he has looked great in this series. I only ask because the Reds announcers kept talking about him being moved to another position for Russell and it seemed like SS defense was the least of the Cubs problems so I was surprised that seemed to be a popular opinion.

Castro still iffy there, but better than he used to be. Everything I'm hearing is that Russell is a natural at the position and will be at SS when he's called up. I'm hearing a lot about them trying to move Castro in a trade. Maybe to the Marlins and maybe in a deal involving Stanton (this is sports radio stuff, so it could just be chatter, but damn that would be great).
