This one got out of hand quickly.
Sure as heck did. Damn.

I love what Schwarber is doing, but lets keep expectations down a bit.

We all thought Bryant and Soler were the real deal right off. Well, both have quieted down quite a bit.

It seems the pitchers have caught up to them. Now it's time for them to make the adjustments, which I'm pretty sure they will, but it will take time.

The odds are they will catch up to Schwarber at some point. Lets hope not. The ####er can hit, and is bringing life to an otherwise anemic offense.

report on yahoo says cubs are "dangling" castro AND baez for hamels... hypothetically speaking, if that happened, would russell move to short? and herrera becomes every day 2B? maybe aquire utley as well? (with his age, he's no use to the phillies)

Maybe Alcantara gets called back up to play 2B and sharing time with Herrera? Neither guy can hit righties though, so that might not work.

Russell would definitely move to SS. Hell, he should be there now.

Also: I support going after Hamels, but I hope they get more than him if they deal Castro AND Baez.

Probably have to take Papelbon too.

I'd be ok with that deal. Castro is trending toward worthless and Baez' strikeout numbers will drive me nuts.

That was such a huge win.

As far as Hamels, there no way I give up Castro & Baez.

The guy I'd want is Price, if he is available. I've heard different reports, as to weather he is or not.

I don't know what the cost to get him would be. If it's to high, just try and get him as a free agent in the off season.

Phillies would be stupid not to accept that. I personally dont like it
The Cubs are offering standout prospect Javier Baez and established shortstop Starlin Castro in an attempt to land Phillies prized pitcher Cole Hamels, a team executive has told ESPN.com senior baseball writer Jayson Stark.

Stark added, however, that the Phillies are not enthralled with either player. But the Cubs remain determined in their efforts to trade for Hamels.

"I don't think they'll be in the rental market," the executive who has spoken to the Cubs told Stark. "So the value to them, with Hamels, is the three years [left on his contract]. This isn't just about selling out to go for the wild card. It's about getting ahead of [the free-agent ace market] this winter."

I think there might be some misleading phrasing going on. My guess is Cubs offered either Castro or Baez, but not both, for Hamels.

They don't like Baez? Sheesh.
Funny how that 41.5 K% during his brief stint in the bigs took some of the wind out of his prospect sails.
gallo was 43.9% and baez is less than a year older. gallo still a top 10 prospect
He's also hit a lot more dingers in the minors. I don't blame the Phillies for not liking Baez.
gallo had 40 in 2013, 42 in 2014

baez had 37 in 2013, 32 in 2014

much harder to find a 2B/SS with that kind of power than a 3B/OF

although if it were that simple, i'm sure the phillies would be more enthralled. then again, it's the phillies...

They completely fell apart after blowing the first game. The offense looks horrible right now. But hey, they're batting the pitcher 8th, which is so neat!

I'm sure it's just some kind of isolation bias, but it sure as Hell seems like the pitcher keeps coming up with 1st and 3rd, bases loaded, etc so much more often than Addison Russell starts a rally after the pitcher makes an inning ending out.

went to the game yesterday, seeing ross pitch and then hit a bomb was the highlight of my weekend. loved how nonchalant he was successfully throwing 68 mph batting practice and turning it in to an 8 pitch 1,2,3 inning. Also putting schwarber in left and then immediately getting a fly ball hit to him was great.

Tonight will be an oddly telling game. Hendricks, who's had a bumpy ride, has to go out and right the ship against a very hot offense that just got one of its best hitters back. Meanwhile, the Cubs offense has to show some life against an experienced lefty. And it's gonna be hot and breezy tonight. Will be interesting to see which way the wind is blowing, but I have a feeling the Cubs will need >6 runs to take this one. I can't see how they win this game, but I hope I'm being overly negative.

Where did Rizzo go? Castro is brutal. Lester can't throw to the bases. 5th starter wet band-aids. Bullpen implosions. It's a miracle they're over .500.

Schwarber starting in left today. This David Ross personal catcher for Lester business can die any day now.
This doesn't bother me to much. quite a few great pitchers like to have their own personal caddy.

If it works, which it has, it's fine with me.

Should just start calling them the Chicago LOBs.
You ain't kidding. It pisses me off so much. This offense is horrible.

they can have a man on 2nd. with no outs, and not come close to scoring.

It seems to happen quite often.
