***Chicago Cubs Thread*** (4 Viewers)

Going to be really pissed - from a fantasy perspective - if Schwarber doesn't get 4 more games at C this year ... and I don't think he will.

:wall:

haren v madbum tonight. greeeeeeat

gotta face kershaw tomorrow, but at least the cubs avoid grienke (silver lining i guess)

This should be interesting. Cubs will be forced to throw out a lefty heavy lineup w/ Soler out.
Denorfia in right and castro at 2nd i guess? That leaves rizzo, schwarber, and montero as the 3 lefties. I wonder if Ross would start if he wasn't away from the team.

I'd rather see Baez at 2nd than Castro even if it is against two stud lefties

Asking the Big 3 to do some heavy lifting today:

Denorfia LF
Schwarber C
Bryant RF
Rizzo 1B
Castro 2B
Russell SS
Szczur CF
Haren P
Herrera 3B

So, I don't do stuff like this often but my son is a 14 year old die hard Cubs fan (the brain washing worked) and has started an instagram page to follow the Cubs. He's trying to get as many followers as he can. He just posts lineups, player news, and final scores but I think it's pretty cool. If you could follow his account he'd be thrilled with followers he doesn't know. Anyway, it is north.side.nation on instagram. Thanks!

Huge for Arrieta to keep up his great work today.

Schwarber just .114 in his last nine games.

It looks like the pitchers have found his weaknesses. Time for him to figure it out quickly.

At least his few hits in that span, have been big ones.

Schwarbs needs to lay off the high cheese. Great day to have Arrieta on the mound. Marquee game tonight and the Cubs need to steal a win on the way out of town. 2-4 road trip would be OK.

Has anyone noticed just how many times Reds batters have stepped out of the batters box very late these first couple games? They've been doing it to bush-league proportions—especially Brandon Phillips—and it has been annoying Cubs pitchers. I wonder if that's why Strop got so fired up after striking out Phillips last night.

Kyle Schwarber has been scratched from Wednesday's lineup due to right rib soreness.

The immediate worry is that Schwarber might have tweaked his oblique, although there's been no indication that that's the ailment he's dealing with. The Cubs should have more on his status after the game. The Cubs are going with Chris Coghlan in left field and Austin Jackson in right. Sep 2 - 1:50 PM

Gorden Wittenmyer was on AM 670 this morning and said with confidence that Javier Baez is a better shortstop than Addison Russell. Thought that was interesting.

They also spent a good five minutes discussing Baez's horrible swing in pinch hitting duty yesterday. I didn't see it, but apparently it made a very bad impression.

His pitch recognition is atrocious. He has to be guessing. He's going to have to be really slick in the field, because the approach as is will not play.

It will be fun to watch these kids grow and make adjustments though. Bryant is doing it. Soler was doing it. Russell has improved. Schwarber is going to have to make his soon. High cheese and down/in breakers have been eating him alive.

To be clear, the Wittenmyer comment was solely about defense.

Mark Grace is in town. Apparently his first trip to Chicago in three years. Watch out if your daughters are hanging out on Clark Street this weekend.
