***Chicago Cubs Thread*** (2 Viewers)

There has to be something personal between Joe and Hammel. Is Joe still holding a grudge against Hammel for complaining to the media about being taken out too early, and this is his way of twisting the knife?

Hammel again had nothing tonight, and Joe left him out there for eight runs and thirteen hits. The team has four new relievers, so there isn't the excuse of an overtaxed bullpen.

Maddon really had nothing to lose by making a point last night. That's the luxury of having the division nailed down so early. Hard to see any way outside injury Hammel makes the division series roster.

I have read that the Cubs will probably carry eleven pitchers on the playoff roster, and the final spot is between Montgomery/Cahill/Hammel

Theo and Jed really like Montgomery, are hyped about his future, and want him to gain experience. Joe thinks he has potential but prefers a veteran like Cahill. Hammel is the odd man out.

helps when ross is gunning down would-be base stealers
Lester is super quick to the plate.

I'm just constantly envisioning the playoff scenario where a team just bunts the ball to him on purpose and/or he chucks the ball into right costing the Cubs a game.

Maddon seems to employ a "Lester defense" sometimes to combat against it though.

my favorite tweet from Jesse Rogers last night:

Lester blows his own no-hitter by letting Ross field the ball almost at the mound.

My playoff rotation would be Lester, Hendricks, Arrieta, Lackey
I like that order, too. Start with your best, most experienced guy. Hendricks has less experience, so have him pitch a home game. Arrieta to demoralize opposition as they head for home field. Lackey's here for jewelry, so he'll do whatever the hell he has to.

I felt that way earlier in the season for sure.  I've been pretty bored for a month.

It's hard to get excited for a night tilt with the Reds when they have a 17 game lead in the division.  The playoff rotation should be interesting.  I'm hoping for 6 innings of lights out baseball from Jake today.  Watching him chuck it all over the place lately makes me nervous.

It's still pretty shocking to me that I can be as worried as I am about Jake but still feel as good as I do about our starters. Would have #### myself if you told me in February that Arrieta was as shaky as he is heading into the postseason again.

Even Bruce Levine was on the radio this morning saying he can make a good argument for switching Arrieta and Lackey. So hard to have full confidence in Arrieta when it comes to containing damage right now. He'll look strong for 3 innings and then completely lose it, or he'll pitch 8 innings and look brilliant.

I mean, the regular season and postseason are basically two different sports. The Giants are the stereotypical built for postseason team. I believe in Maddon, but I'm ####ting bricks right now.

RELAX

How are they built for the post season?  They barely got in

Cubs are stacked, top to bottom.  Pitching is deep and so is the pen

No weakness.

I don't totally disagree. Plus, the Giants have a glass jaw in that their pen is horrendous. I'm optimistic, but I refuse to let myself really buy in.
