***Chicago Cubs Thread*** (2 Viewers)

In May, the Cubs are allowing nearly 5 runs a game. Not good.  They're 13-17 since a 1-0 win in April over the Pirates.

Are teams taking advantage of Lester on the bases? Back when he was with the Red Sox I never thought they did that enough when he was on the mound, strange that they wouldn't just run wild.

Most SB attempts vs, most caught stealing    Highest % of runners thrown out in the league

Lester does a fantastic job of changing up his delivery time, add a catcher with a cannon, and you've got a formidable battery

What can you even do here? It's not like they're battling injuries. Nobody significant has had an extended DL stint.

Stay the course. At least nobody is pulling away with the division.

Schwarber though. He needs a phantom injury and a few rehab games to tighten up the approach.

If the losing continues at what point do you start to think about shopping Arrieta and Lackey? I don't think I want them to re-sign Jake.

Exactly.  Very weak division this year so I'm still not sure who will beat out the Cubs.  With that said, I think the pitching is definitely a problem.  Both Hendricks and Arrieta look like different pitchers than what we're used to.  They'll still make the playoffs and anything can happen in the playoffs but they're not close to being the best team in the NL.

Bullpen's been pretty good, with a 3.23 ERA.  Considering they are logging 3.58 innings per outing since the starters aren't stellar this go-round, that is a big plus.

Going to my first game at Wrigley next Friday. Where's the best place to sit?

Depends,

Babes and beer: Bleachers

Watch the game: Lower bowl(100 level or lower)

Don't sit in the 200's, unless you're in the first 7 rows(otherwise sit upstairs)

Ended up going with the bleachers for this Friday. If anyone is around and wants to grab drinks before the game lmk.
GA seating, get there early if you want to sit on the wall........spend an hour or two at Murphys before, and have a great time.

Wish I could join you, but stupid work.

how early do you think is good enough?
If you want to sit on the wall, you'll have to get in about 1 1/2 hours early(a line starts to form about 3 hours before the game).....otherwise, you'll be able to get close if you're in a hour early.

Really depends on how many are in your party.

If it's just 2, then you'll be able to sit just about anywhere, but it's gets much more complicated as the number goes up

Edit: gates open 2 hours before game.

Fun times.  Beautiful park, cool fans. I wore my votto shirsey. Would have liked to see the cubs win. They loaded the bases against Holland in the ninth, but couldn't finish. Those Murphy's pours are pretty heavy. You can get real drunk when you start drink at 10a, idk if u guys knew that

Glad you had fun.

10am?  you must be a rookie :)

Schwarber right back in the 3 hole :lmao:

I think its gotten to the point that Maddon's got his ring and now he's just clowning you guys.

I know that's just how Montero is, but anyone who knows anything about baseball knows all those steals are on Jake.  There's no reason to say it.

There is a reason it is so difficult to repeat. The emotion of last year, the hunger, the extended season take a lot out of a player. Once they get that ring they breathe a sigh of relief. They don't work out as hard in the off-season. They don't have the sane hunger. They get complacent. They start to believe all the headlines about them being so good that they lose that edge you need to win. It's happened to lots of teams and it will happen to even more. Don't fear Cubs fans, you guts still gave an amazing wealth if talent. You have a stacked favorite m system and good ownership and management. Most of all you have a great fan base that stuck with a team that didn't win for over a century. You might or you might not win this year, but if you don't you won't  have to wait long for your next one.

My excitement lasted about two innings. He struck out looking on a grapefruit in the middle of the plate and The Brewers put up 7 runs on some clown named leather face.

I guess we've all wanted cost controlled pitching and Eloy wasn't cracking the lineup any time soon.  Hopefully this gives the team the jolt it needs to wake the eff up.
