With Lovie giving more touches to Benson,do you think the MNF game vs. AZ will be where Benson gets to "show his stuff"as a future starter in Chicago?

Chicago Homers...Is Benson in line for serious carries vs. Arizona? (1 Viewer)

Well, do you think it will it be a blow out or not against Arizona? Benson always gets more carries when the game is out of control. If it's a close game, I'd expect to see Jones in more than Benson.One minor factor to consider is that Thomas Jones will be playing against his old team...now, I'm not saying it's going to be a lock that he's going to get more carries, but it's something to consider. I could see him getting a goalline carry for 'sentimental' reasons. I recently read an article in the Sun Times where Ron Turner (the off coordinator) found out that Jones was 2 yards shy of a 100 yard game against Buffalo and put him back in...tells me that the Bears staff don't mind handing out a few gifts here and there.

If the Bears are up big early, I feel Benson could get 33% or greater of the carries. If its a fairly close game, I think he is looking about half the amount.
I like the chances of the Bears going up big, so I think you could expect Benson to be fairly involved. I feel he is only a starting FF RB this week if you are thin at that position.

Dont forge this is Thomas Jones return to Arizona As a TJ owner i hope he gets most of the carries if so he should have a good day at which popint I will be attempting to move him his value is high (should be higher after Mon) and Benson is getting the GL touches. Who would you trade TJ for? Rhodes? SJ? JJ? Duece?

Benson isn't getting the goal line touches. If you watched the game (or read many of the post-game posts), you'd know that.I don't think you can get as much for T JOnes as he is actually worth unless you're trading him to the Benson owner. Since I own both, I'm not looking to deal him. He has a great schedule and I think he'll get better and better.

I was basing my commants on the 2 tds he got in wk4 that were both GL carries. If that continues TJs Value will drop fast. I have faith that TJ and the other bears players will be valued for end of season play. What chance does everyone think Benson has of being the #1 guy this year?

I think Jones would have to be hurt, or his production fall off significantly,and Benson's production to increase, in order for Benson to start.

They werent "goalline carries" as you mention. Benson ran the ball the whole series and it just happened that his two series they got to the goalline and scored. TJ was not pulled at the goalline in favor of Benson.ETA: Thus Benson is not the goalline vulture he has been made out to be.

He is a good bet for 10+ carries a game from this point on, barring injury. He wasn't simply put into the game last weekend with a big lead. He had a huge series early in the second quarter that basically took any hope away from the Bills. If he can perform as he did Sunday, he looked fully healed and was running through tacklers, the Bears would be wise to use him as much as possible.

Exactly. Benson is not the goal line back (TJ and Benson are about the same weight, though their makeup is different), but he is a part of the game plan. Still, Thomas Jones got 22 carries and 4 recepts (Benson 14 and 2), and that work will keep Jones productive. As an owner of both, I'm happy with the current situation MAINLY because I'm also a fan. It would be nice to have a clear stud out of this backfield, but for now Benson just won't see enough action outside of blowouts to justify starting him yet. Unless you're in dire need, of course.

Benson will see carries during a blow out. His 2 TD's came when the Bears had just finished driving the length of the field, scored and then immidiately got a turnover on BUF 20yrd line...enter Benson. The other came in garbage time after T. Jones had racked up 109yrds. Now having said that they do want to see Benson play some, he was afterall a big draft pick, but there is no way they're going to risk the health of their new golden boy REX by letting Benson block for him. Case in point, CHI had the ball at BUF's 10yrd line, Benson is in their. REX drops back to pass, Benson misses his assignment and lets the guy through while looking for REX to dump him a screen pass, REX is badly scaked. Enter T. Jones, he makes his pass protection and REX throws a strike for a TD. So to answer your quetsion, Benson will see his share of carries but mostly during blow outs where they can pull REX as well. It's T. Jones job to lose and REX LOVES T. Jones. Let's also not forget that Benson isn't winning a popularity contests with the coaches and players since his antics in pre-season. He's still in the doghouse.

As previously stated, Benson will get carries when the Bears are in control of the game. If it's close, he'll be carrying Jones' jock on the sidelines. That said, he should get plenty of opportunities with the Bears upcoming schedule.
I think Benson's late fumble can't be overlooked - yes, that late TD meant nothing to the outcome of the game, but it meant A LOT to the defense. You know Benson woke up with a horse head in bed with him on Monday. I think between that and his pass protection, Jones is in no danger of losing the lion's share of the carries.

No doubt Jones is the back that will get 60%+ of the carries, but I don't think you can blame the fumble on Benson. Griese placed the ball at his shoulder pads, and I believe the QB was credited with the fumble. I like what the Bears did with Benson on Sunday (two/three series Jones - one series Benson) and would expect them to continue using him in this manner.

Barring injury to TJ, Benson has a 10% chance of taking the job away. Benson does have value as they have a very soft schedule for playoff time.
