Chick Fil-A (1 Viewer)

I've never had bad waffle fries @CFA either but I only get them half the time. I like to get the Mac n Cheese and in colder weather the Chicken Tortilla Soup is on the money.

My fam did the taste test and Chick-fil-A won by a landslide.  The Popeyes samich was too salty, and greasy.  The CFA waffle fries, with the CFA sauce......so much better than the Popeyes Cajun fries.

I've seen a bunch of people online agree with you......blows my mind.  I honestly think some of it is cuz they don't like CFA's politics.  FWIW, I took politics out of it.......I went purely on taste and quality.
I’m sorry but your family is wrong

I think you have no way of knowing this and here’s why - CFA is as consistent as you can get.  Great service, food is almost always great and hot. I will agree that occasionally you can get undercooked fries but for me that is rare and everything else is always the same.  Popeyes chicken sandwich can be better but most Popeyes (in my area) are gross, take forever and the food is inconsistent.  I got one of their sandwiches a few weeks back and it was way over breaded and overcooked.  Wasn’t good.  I’ve had them screwup my order and put the wrong sauce on.  Messy where you can’t even hold the sandwich and like I said, overcooked.  I never know what I’m going to get and how long it will take.

I mean this in the nicest way but your family has terrible taste.

Chick-fil-a is the most boring suburban place in America. Soggy fries, a chicken sandwich where the only flavor is salt, no chicken on the bone, the only thing you hear people say about it is the employees are nice or it’s clean.

Just a place for families who can’t wait to go home and watch whatever CBS sitcom is on that night. Horrible.

This sounds like code for "boring food for boring white people."

I"ve only been a few times in my life. When I pass them by they are always busy. There is not one in Citrus County yet. I saw a CFA food truck in a parking lot in Crystal River last week- there were about 200 people standing in a line working their way to the window!

I can only assume they are testing the market with this truck and we'll have one soon enough.

This post for the win!

I love Popeyes chicken and fries but the buying experience is not always fun. My wife refuses to go anymore.

I do know this, the packages of honey are directly tied to their paychecks.

:lmao:   - yeah, you are wrong here GB.  Maybe the goobers in Florida need to have a visit from Corporate.  Jesus, the lines are wrapped around the building consistently and you think it’s because it’s clean and people are nice?

You know, this sandwich tastes like #### but <insert generic teenage white girl name> sure was nice to me so I’ll pay $3.50 for the sandwich and choke it down.   :lmao:

It’s also because the food is safe and bland and most Americans have taste buds where ketchup is too spicy for them.

No, that's Chili's.

Chick-fil-a is what it is: a reliable fast food option that is superior to McDonald's and is family friendly. So, as somebody who has four kids with kid-level palates and who like to whine and complain if we go somewhere they don't like,* I'm glad the place exists as a quick and reliable food option so I don't have to go to McDonald's, BK, or any of the other places I like even less.  Plus, their house sauce is good enough to add flavor to the sandwich and fries (though I usually get soup for my side). All things considered, it isn't all that bad for what it is and so far I haven't felt compelled to watch CBS the evening following going there.

*Trust me, my wife and I have tried to expose them to "good" food but at least one of them won't have it and I get frustrated spending good money at a better restaurant only for my kid(s) to complain and waste the food. We will continue to try but, for now, if we're traveling, tired, and not in the mood for complaints Chick-fil-a is a welcomed option.**

** Except for Sundays.

This is my usual go to for the side. I'm sure it's day or two old chicken, but it's at least a bit healthier and tastes pretty good.

The Mac and Cheese is also surprisingly decent but a huge calorie bomb.

I don’t usually like kale, but the kale crunch salad with the cider and Dijon mustard dressing is really good. Definitely on the small side though.

You guys must have nicer popeyes near you.

The ones around here are trash, they're the taco bell of chicken places here...... AS I said before though the Chicken sandwich is very good.

The last page of posts in this thread has made me wonder about Popeyes away from its home area (started in New Orleans). Around here, Popeyes' food is still beloved ... but then, the bad service is kind of considered part of the charm

(Truth be told, the service is often slow but rarely rude IME. The rep that everyone jokes about, locally, is overblown)

I've never eaten Popeyes north of Jackson, MS -- and it was pretty much still like home that far north. Now I'm really curious.

I've never had CFA or Popeyes sandwiches but checking in to say I made this recipe last weekend and they turned out fantastic.

Homemade Chick-fil-A Sandwiches Recipe

The only changes I made is that I pounded the chicken out to about 1/2 inch flat with a rubber mallet before brining and then cut it into strips, nuggets and a few larger pieces.  Also, I didn't have any MSG. Great meal for the whole family with a big tub of garlic mash, my wife's mac/cheese and some salad for the adults.

I expect this has been linked here before but just in case - its worth trying.

My issues that have been pretty consistent and the few locations here....

Fries are awful - they are basically either soggy, cold,  (ive tried a variety of fries)

Chicken - any type of tender is way too much breading.  I've had some with almost no meat, usually soggy.

The regular fried chicken is good (but has been to inconsistent when served)

I stopped going until they started serving the sandwich

Chic fil-a is still just middle of the road for me.

they are constant. And provide good service.

I have never had good fries there.

I find better chicken sandwiches at jitb, Arby’s, Carl’s, and Popeyes but they are less consistent.

I knew a lot of this was political.  This is a total horse#### answer.

I had the sammich and it was the same as u describe the chicken....really greasy/soggy, too salty.  I would try another location, but first impression was pretty bad......and it took too long.  Chick fil-a has a far superior system of moving you along.

I don’t get the hate for Chik-Fil-A (food, anyway). Solidly in the Chipotle/Panera tier of higher end fast food. You can like the Popeyes sandwich better (I like them about the same), but a sandwich and chicken noodle soup always hits the spot for me. My daughter loves the ice 🤨

It’s not like I’ve been to a bunch of them but I’ve probably gone to about 5-6 in Georgia and they all have sucked - most are dirty and while I wouldn’t call the employees rude, they just don’t seem to give a damn.  And the wait times are insane for food that 50% of the time is either wrong or not cooked properly.  I know what I’m getting with CFA - is if the greatest food known to man?  Of course not, but I’m eating freaking fast food, you have to set your expectations appropriately.

And again, I’ve had a Popeyes sandwich that was delicious but with a hit rate of 50%.

Popeyes sucks

Chicken Sandwich is good though - thats about it
Popeyes chicken sandwich is better,  Popeyes seasoned fries are much better than Chik Fila's undercooked waffle fries and Popeyes red beans and rice is the best side that either place has.  I like both of these places but just like Popeyes a bit better.

I’m sorry but your family is wrong
Well, you can come do the taste test at the chick fil a, and Popeyes we went to......I'm telling you, CFA was hands down better. But what do I know, I'm just some boring suburban white dude......so my opinion holds no weight.

One of the few times I went a teenage girl did refill my diet coke. Thought that was kinda cool.

The Popeye sandwich is good. You can get one of those and their apple pie for around $5.00, which makes for a mighty cheap (albeit unhealthy) lunch. Throw in a six pack of beer on days I hate myself and mission accomplished.

The deluxe chicken sandwich at CFA is also decent, but it lacks the bulk of the Popeye's sandwich, but it tastes way more healthy. I frankly prefer ordering the market salad there--that thing rocks

As far as the restaurant environment, you can't beat our CFA--clean, fastest drive thru around and they have recently started offering delivery that is beyond quick. My wife and daughter love that service. The Popeyes environment tends to be dirty, slow and they seem to be the last stop for employees that were fired from every other fast-food place by us. Oddly enough, our Popeyes is located directly next the Kentucky Fried Chicken and they seem to take turns who can offer the worst customer service--with usually KFC taking that prize.

I have never eaten anything but the chicken sandwich there.

For other varieties of fried chicken, I live near the only Church’s in NJ, so that’s nice.

CFA is the Missionary Position of the fast food world

i have waited almost an hour in Popeyes drive through.  Twice.  There were only like 5 people in front of me.  They have those like bulletproof rotating windows at all the locations by me.  Sometimes they mess my order up or have signs up still for a limited time product but they tell me they don’t have it anymore.  But I will go out of my way and deal with it because that sandwich is so amazing

yes the CFA by me has great service and long lines that move fast.  The waffle fries are upper echelon fast food fries (Popeyes are better).  And the chicken sandwich is…just ok.  There’s nothing objectionable about it, but nothing special about it either.  It’s the In-N-Out burger of chicken sandwiches

I don’t understand how anyone can like CFA over the Popeyes chicken sandwich. Popeyes is better in every way.
I think the main point here is you never know what you are going to get at Popeyes - even if I ignore the horrible customer service, the insane wait times and cleanliness of the place it’s still a total toss-up whether what I get will be good.  I’ve said that a perfectly done Popeyes sandwich is better but considering all the factors above plus the chances of it being perfect are around 50% (from what I can tell) - I’m choosing CFA 9 out of 10 times.

I’m not waiting in line for an hour for fast food.

Where do you rank the two sandwiches on a scale of 1-10?  I’d have Popeyes* at like a 8 and CFA like 6 or 7.

*when done correctly - I’ve had a 2 or 3 there before too
