CHRIS BROWN injury (1 Viewer)

I think you'd be crazy to take Curtis Martin over Chris Brown. I don't know where the love for Martin is coming from. The guy didn't do much at all to help the teams in my leagues that had him last season. It's been my experience that you need elite players to win FF championships. Curtis Martin isn't an elite player (in fantasy football) and I see no reason to believe he will suddenly reach that status again. If anything, he's actually a substantial risk due to his age/mileage. Players like Curtis Martin can get you into the playoffs, but you won't beat the elite teams in your league with guys like that unless you're loaded at every other position. Someone in your league is going to have two top 10 backs and some scary receivers. It always seems to work out that way. You need to plan accordingly. I don't like taking a guy in the early rounds with the knowledge that he won't be an elite player. I'd much rather get a younger back with significantly more upside. You could say it's taking a risk, but if you're good at FF then you can tell a good risk from a bad risk. This year I see Kevin Jones as a good risk and Quentin Griffin as a bad risk. I could be horribly mistaken, but I'd rather trust my knowledge and swing for the fences instead of settling for a mediocre talent. I think that in the long run I'll win more FF championships with guys like Kevin Jones and Chris Brown than I ever would with the Curtis Martins of the world.

I registered on this forum just to say that this is the most ridiculous forum post in the history of the internet. He is fine, you all need to get out more... my GOD.

Their is NO SUCH THING as an injury prone player.
I love this agrument, if you actually believe that, then make this bet: I'll take Brett Favre and take Lee Suggs, whoever's guy misses a game first loses. You can have a pass on week 1.

I like Brown's chances this year, mainly because he has learned from Eddie over the past year or so...Was he worth a 2nd round draft pick? Probably not unless you are smoking crack. I'd go with solid RB-RB or RB-WR as there is a risk involved in this pick.Needless to say, I DID gamble on him in the 3rd round followed by Tiki Barber as insurance. My first 4 picks in a 14 team league:R. MossJ. LewisC. BrownT. BarberLet's just say I wasn't unhappy. Before you ask, I drafted out of 1.11 and Lewis fell because everyone feels he's going to jail at some point... I gambled

You know what happens when it's opening weekend, and we've only got 1 game to talk about? We get a 5 page thread obsessing over a slight ankle sprain by one of the "big unknown" running backs! :D Just over 2 1/2 hours until the whole mess kicks off. Then we'll get some topics REALLY worth a 5 pager!

 Yuck. Heh. It's only one week, but I appear to have been a bit off about Griffin and Martin. Those guys have had huge days.

I bet alot of people wish they would of taken C-Mart before Brown now. Brown is a good player, but his upright running style will never allow him to make it a full year. C-Mart put me over the top today.

I guess Eric Dickerson never made it through an entire year. I'm not saying Brwon is better than Dickerson, but ED ran even more upright than Brown. You statement is laughable.

Was extremely impressed with C-Mart today. Wasn't sure he still had it in him. But I would still rather have CB, even though he is probably a riskier player.

Martin scored as many TD's today as all of last year?WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :excited: I sure know how to pick 'em. I just picked 'em last year. :loco: As long as Pennington is healthy, and the Jets are competitive he'll probably do pretty well.

and I imagine a lot of people got him pretty d@mn cheap because he was so bad last year. My friend got him as the 26th RB in our draft and I thought that was a great pick but several people at the draft immediately said how they thought he was a wasted pick. I didn't like some people's rankings putting him closer to #15 as I like to target a little more upside, but #26 is a great pick especially after today. I'm kind of regretting taking Suggs instead 2 picks earlier, but he could still pan out for me.

i dont know why i actually thought that there would be an update on chris browns injury in a thread called "CHRIS BROWN injury".what was i thinking. :wall:

LOL! Me too! But then--what can we expect between Saturday night and this morning? They haven't completed tests yet...

Get the thread back on track a bit...a couple stories from the Tennessean. I'd keep an eye on this...doesn't sound too convincing Brown will be ready for the weekend, but nor does it sound too convincing he'll be out. Brown is of course saying he should be alright, but we know how that goes. I guess they call this the "wait and see."

From Sunday's Tennessean:

MIAMI — Chris Brown did to the Dolphins yesterday what no other running back was able to do last season — rush for 100 yards.

And he did it in just a half.

But instead of celebrating the success of his first NFL start and a 17-7 victory for the Titans, the running back spent extended time in the training room on his back with an ice pack on his left ankle.

''I was really disappointed I couldn't finish the game,'' Brown said. ''But I should be all right. I'm just glad it all turned out good for the team. Other guys stepped in and did great.''

The Dolphins hadn't allowed a 100-yard rusher since Dec. 1, 2002 when Buffalo's Travis Henry ran for 151. But Brown ended the 20-game streak in a flash, with a 52-yard run in the second quarter that put him at 100.

It was Brown's last play of the game. He said he injured the ankle earlier, but the touchdown-saving tackle by Miami's Antuan Edwards at the 2 did him in.

It was the longest run by an Oiler/Titan running back since Eddie George had a 76-yard gain during his rookie season in 1996. Brown also became the first Oiler/Titan to rush for 100 yards or more in his first start since Gary Brown in 1993.

''I don't know if he's the next Eddie George or not, but he's a good back,'' Dolphins defensive tackle Larry Chester said. ''Even on the short runs he was in there fighting for every yard. He ran hard.''

The 52-yard run, on a first-and-10 from the Tennessee 46, set up the Titans' first TD, a 1-yard toss from Steve McNair to tight end Erron Kinney.

''We were controlling the game pretty good and then he broke that long run,'' Dolphins cornerback Patrick Surtain said. ''He just kind of glides. He fools you because he doesn't look like he's moving that fast and then he's gone.''

The Titans expect to see more of that from Brown, though his injury will perhaps raise more questions about his durability. Brown missed five games as a rookie last season due to hamstring problems.

What Brown showed again yesterday, however, is that the Titans now have a big-play threat in the backfield. He's going to get stuffed on occasion, but he's also capable of breaking long runs.

The Titans also had to be encouraged that when Brown went out, backups Antowain Smith and Robert Holcombe (7-31) stepped in and combined for 71 yards. The Titans rushed for 182 yards overall.

''The sky is the limit for Chris and today he came out and showed what he can do,'' McNair said. ''If we can keep Chris healthy he is going to open up a lot of things for us offensively. Chris would have had a magnificent day and probably close to 200 (yards) if he would have stayed in the game.''
From today's Tennessean:
The Titans hope several other injured players will be healthy in time to play Sunday. That list includes running back Chris Brown (ankle), punter Craig Hentrich (back) and wide receiver Tyrone Calico (knee).

While the Titans had a short week to prepare for the Dolphins when the game was moved up a day, they now get an extra day to heal and prepare for the Colts.

''We will definitely take advantage of the extra day,'' Fisher said.

Brown rushed for 100 yards Saturday in his first NFL start, but didn't play in the second half. Fisher said Brown's left ankle was improving, but the team might do more tests.

CRAP!I got sucked into this thread also for that very same reason! :wall:  :hot:
No kidding. After wading through 5 pages of crap hoping to find something about a guy my opponent may be starting this week I nearly fell out of my chair when I realized the argument had some how moved to talking about Curtis Martin's TD production this year.I simply wanted to know if Brown was going to be healthy this week.....Guess I should stay out of a thread titled CHRIS BROWN INJURY if I want to know anything about that!!!

More on Chrissy Brown.A good friend of mine grew up and went to high school with Drew Bennet in California. They are still good friends and talk regularly. To make a long story short, a lot of the Titans players and some of the coaching staff don't believe in Chris Brown and they are just waiting for the RB situation there to blow up.Take that for what it's worth.I own Chris Brown in zero leagues. And I could care less if you believe me.(pre-emptive attack on this board's usual response to these types of posts)
Are they still waiting for the RB situation to blow up?I don't know if this was hyperbole or just really bad info but Brown looks pretty good to me.
