Chris Thompson - JAX Jaguars - RB (3 Viewers)

Anyone think this guy could be a late round PPR guy? I know Fournette had a bunch of catches last year but with Jay Gruden in Jacksonville, and a bad defense, they might likely be playing catch up a lot.
Yes, in best ball especially. He’s had a ton of injuries but he has also had very sneaky-valuable weeks, kind of like a Theo Riddick type. Would be a tough start unless he really establishes a consistent share, but I think a decent end of draft dart that can be dropped within a few weeks if usage isn’t there.

That's what I was thinking. Could be a desperation play @ RB for a week or popped in your flex for those catches.

Fantasy Football: Key takeaways following Leonard Fournette's release from the Jacksonville Jaguars

Excerpt:

The Jaguars added Chris Thompson this offseason to take over the third-down snaps. Thompson, after all, had earned the trust of Jay Gruden — Jacksonville's new offensive coordinator — during their time together in Washington.

Thompson averaged over 40 catches over the last five seasons. And while this alone wouldn't make him a great fantasy option, he has also been a star in red-zone drills for Jacksonville this training camp. If Thompson can get both the red-zone touches as well as the third-down targets, he is the most attractive option in this backfield.

Thompson had been considered an undervalued pick earlier in the offseason, but because he is less than two months away from his 30th birthday and has never been an every-down back in the league, his upside is somewhat limited. He could have a role similar to that of James White and Tarik Cohen, but he should be drafted a little later than these two pass-catching standouts, just because he's not quite as good.

I think his role will be pretty much the same as it always has been.  Not saying he won’t have value, but he is what he is, a pass catching specialists.

Definitely a guy I'm targeting in best ball PPRs.
I was getting him in just about every best ball league I could even before this news.  I just knew that JAX would be throwing from behind a lot and he could see a ton of late 4th quarter dumpoffs.  PPR gold.  Now that Fournette is gone, I could see his snaps going up a tick.

He is very similar to Reed during his time in Washington too...when on the field, they produce in PPR leagues, that's undeniable...but man they are both made of glass.

Yeah, I cut him 20 minutes before the news broke. I wish I had him back, but I dont think it will alter my season at all.

Honestly the only "knock" against him in this situation, though you can never predict injury, CT does have a history of struggling to play a full season.

That said, with a middling line and a gunslinger QB, and with great familiarity with Gruden, I think CT will be used in the offense and have a solid snap count, and is by far the biggest value play in this backfield now -- can see him become a James White flex kinda gold in PPR with a steady floor and solid upside.

The big lack of usage was concerning.

We knew Robinson was flavor of the team (and looks to be on his way to solidifying the lead role) and game script may have played into it as JAX was kept in the game all 4 quarters by a Colts team that didn't look as ready for Week 1.

Not overreacting to Week 1, but there's a lot here that Thompson owners potentially should be thinking about going forward.

Do we think that Thompson still has PPR value? Or are people jettisoning him for other potential options with more clear upside from what we've seen in Week 1 (Kelley, Brown, etc.)?

I would get rid of him for the options you listed.

Jaguars RB Chris Thompson was removed from the reserve/COVID-19 list.

With Thompson out last week against the Chargers. James Robinson played 90 percent of snaps and handled every backfield touch for the Jags. Commanding 8 percent of the team's targets this season, Thompson puts a ding in Robinson's weekly pass catching upside. Robinson remains a RB1 option in all fantasy formats.
