At the onset I wanted to just simply know if Turbin or Michael was the back up.

Wanted to roster whichever it was. So much hype/misinformation from the Michael owners.

The only Seahawk I owned was Haushcka. :P

Back to the topic at hand, and not the personal stuff since this world is delving into a binary vitriol:

CM's value has taken such a hit, that his proponents don't want to sell for current price because of the sunk and hold cost. I see him as nothing more than handcuff value now until the situation changes. I got "lucky" and flipped him last offseason for a 2015 first (but I also held TRich a season or two too long and basically traded him as a throw in).

This thread is fast approaching the "David Wilson" and "Josh Gordon" epic thread status ... tragic when a shark pool "post thread" surpasses the NFL talent of a player.

(Full disclosure - I am a CM seller in some leagues and owner in others)

 
I wish the guy would just implode or succeed so this can freaking die.

For the record ... I've been a Christine Micheal supporter.

 
I've been holding on him but finally traded him and Turbin for Jordan Reed and Kendall Hunter. I own both Carlos Hyde and Niles Paul so a little depth in a large roster league.

For kicks I went back and read the first few pages of this thread. Aside from the obligatory jokes about her his name, there are some very solid, prophetic posts. Michael's athleticism was seen as exceptional but there were concerns with health, attitude and pass protection. Kudos FBGs. EBF himself was reserved with a mix of both positive and negative comments.

Later in the thread, the Texas A&M strength coach (who trained both men) was quoted as saying that Michael's explosiveness was on par with Peterson's. Of course, this was twisted into "Michael is the next Peterson" interpretations.

Part of fantasy football is identifying the next man up. Who wouldn't want a physically gifted back in a run heavy offense? Even nfl.com had him graded higher than Le'Veon Bell in 2013. You take flyers on guys like that and hope they mature and develop.

No opportunity and still buried behind one of the best backs (team MVP?) in the league. Maybe he'll get his shot. Maybe he'll flame out. The recent tweet about a trade to Dallas suggests the latter. So, if I swung and missed, I'm in good company. It's a fickle game and a fickle league. Think about the recent and current values of Trent Richardson, Zac Stacey, Doug Martin, Jonathan Franklin, David Wilson, Giovani Bernard, Montee Ball and ...

A little bit of back and forth is going to happen. But 30 posts, deleted now, mostly about other users and having little to do with Christine Michael or football, is obviously not ok.

If you can't handle someone else's views then click on your name top right and on Manage Ignore Prefs and put them on your ignore list.

If you can't be excellent to other posters and limit yourself to talking about Michael, don't post in here.

I don't know why but I am having a hard time cutting Michael. He's inching towards the bottom of my roster though. Right now, I have him just below Danny Woodhead and Javorius Allen. So he's 24 of 24. I couldn't justify cutting him to acquire Vincent Jackson for a second round pick though (I would have needed to make a cut to have roster space).

Who gets more yards this season? Christine Michael of Chris Johnson?

Would either get into your starting line-up?

If not, I would keep the younger player for long term reasons. It's quite possible CJ finds a home and offers some production this year but I see him with limited upside/duration

Sure, I think maybe on bye weeks they would. Woodhead would for sure. I just don't see Michael doing much in the NFL. I mean you can't ignore the fact that's he has never ascending higher than 3rd on the Hawks depth chart. Those guys are a dime a dozen.

OK, but isn't Woodhead also 3rd on the depth chart. On top of that, Woodhead is 30, CM is 24. SD just drafted Gordon to be their RB of the future and he is only 22.I don't doubt at all that Woodhead has a better 2015, but better in this case is probably like a one legged man in a race. Never are likely doing much. At least with CM he might have a future because of his age.

If he gets cut, that of course is very bad.

 
There are quite a few writers that I don't respect much, but Danny Kelly isn't one of them. He's not the sort to brazenly throw around platitudes. He's one of the more objective guys writing about the Seahawks IMO.

I'm not going to say too much about this because we've been snakebitten in the past a little bit, but Michael looks really, really, ridiculously good out there. Based on all the reports we've heard, he has to master the nuanced portions of playing the position, but I'll just say that Michael looked noticeably more explosive than anyone else on the field.

I'm roughly guessing Woodhead will duplicate his 2013 season where he was RB12 in PPR. I'm bumping him back a bit off those numbers and thinking he's looking at closer to 180-190 points instead of 225. That puts him in the top 20.

 
Texans would be a little stupid not to be inquiring about all kinds of RB's. :shrug:

Edit: damned if it wouldn't make Hard Knocks a little more interesting, though.

I don't have a lot of faith in guys who win camp because the other guy is hurt. I like when a guy comes in like John Brown and just shows himself to belong (Hall of Famers and first round picks be damned). Michael hasn't done anything like that at all. He showed up, that's about it.

Football's all about beating the guy in front of you. It applies on the field and in the locker room.

So Michael should sit out and wait for Turbin to heal up in the name of fairness and competition?

 
Robert Turbin (hip surgery) has resumed practicing at Seahawks camp.
Turbin underwent "double hip surgery" and missed the entire offseason program. Beat writers were previously skeptical about his Week 1 availability, but Turbin has been medically cleared, and on Wednesday coach Pete Carroll told reporters the contract-year running back looks "the best he's ever looked."

He basically drew into a dead heat with Larry Fitzgerald and Michael Floyd.

He scored more fantasy points last season than Michael has in 3 seasons.

 
And I'm pretty sure this has all been covered in depth in this thread but you could bring in the Footballguys' beloved Jeremy Hill and he wouldn't be beating out Marshawn Lynch for the #1 spot in Seattle. You can point at the fact that Michael hasn't "beat out" Turbin for the backup RB job but he's out-performing him when he gets in there.

Christine Michael

2013 - 18 attempts - 79 yards - 4.4ypc

2014 - 34 attempts - 175 yards - 5.1ypc

Robert Turbin

2013 - 77 attempts - 264 yards - 3.4ypc

2014 - 74 attempts - 310 yards - 4.2ypc

The only reason Turbin is getting more play is because he's a year ahead of Michael with his ability to pass block. Maybe Michael will never catch up in that department. However, I'll tell you this. If Marshawn Lynch goes down tomorrow, my money is on Michael to lead the team in carries in 2015 barring injury.

Roughly the same targets, yardage, and touchdowns. He actually led the team in targets from week 3 forward.

Back to Michael, he just hasn't shown anything at all. Good players get on the field. Great players demand touches. He just hasn't done anything.

Don't get me wrong .... I'm not saying Michael is great. All I'm saying is I don't know what he is. He's stuck behind a Hall of Famer that is still playing like a Hall of Famer and when he gets in there, he's gaining 5+ ypc.

John Brown is an awful comparison. He is a nice player but Fitz is more like the Weekend At Bernies version of his former self and he isn't competing with Fitz (or Floyd for that matter) to just see the field. He's running routes out of the slot with those other players on the field at the same time. It's like comparing Apples to asphalt.

That Aaron Rodgers guy must suck then since he couldn't beat out Brett Favre and they had to ship him out of town for the guy to start.

He's a knucklehead. He is the most athletic guy on the roster at any position....but the dude is a knucklehead. He is going to get traded or cut. I would roster him for when he gets cut/traded to a team like the cowboys or texans.

THIS ... and Milman's post as well ... are exactly what I'm talking about.

Michael is twice the runner that Turbin is. Unfortunately, that's not all that a RB in the NFL needs to be able to do ... but it's about 95% of it!!!!!

If you are very, very good at 95% of what your position requires and that 5% is something that simply requires work and not God-given ability, you always have a chance to turn it around and become a star.

So until I see this guy given a real chance and he fails ... I'm not writing him off.

Robert Turbin appears as quick and fast as ever after having surgery on both hips. It had been reported earlier that Turbin had offseason surgery on a hip, which caused him to miss OTAs and minicamp. On Wednesday the team revealed that Turbin had surgery on both hips. The results seem pretty dramatic, as Turbin almost daily is earning raves. “Interesting to see Turbin come back,’’ Carroll said Wednesday. “He had double-hip surgery, and you don’t know what you’re doing to get. He looked the best he’s looked — very quick, explosive, so he’s really made a good first impression. Had a big day a couple of days ago.” Turbin is competing with Michael and Thomas Rawls for a backup spot behind Marshawn Lynch and to show the team he can be an heir apparent, if needed, at some point over the next few years.

Fixed.

Yes, Michael has been behind one of the best and most durable backs in the league for two seasons. One Lynch isn't running the ball, Wilson is... Also, on a SB caliber team, they have no need to take risks and a young back with questionable pass protections skills is a risk.

If his head isn't in the right place now (again, on a SB caliber team), perhaps it never will be.
