That's not the issue. The issue is that he doesn't do these things consistently and therefore isn't trusted to play. I'm sure he's had some good blocks in practice and other preseason games...

CM is a great blocking back. Not good, but great.

He is not a very good running back, and will end up

as fantasy waiver wire fodder

The biggest question coming into this preseason was how Michael would look relative to Turbin. In spite of being "fully recovered" from his double hip surgery and "looking great" in camp, Turbin has done absolutely zero on the field so far. The coaching staff has to be at least a little concerned.

Given that Michael's perceived value is at an all time low, and Turbin has legitimate questions (and he's a UFA after this year), there might actually be a legitimate buying opportunity brewing here...perhaps for the first time ever since Michael came out.

It is. Look, I drafted him 2 years ago. Bought the hype. But after watching him for 2 years and now in his third? I'm out. He doesn't have IT. He's not feature back material.

Blocking is great. Maybe he can be the 3rd down back by mid season.

I just don't see it. He is just not a good RB. His ability to hit holes hard and fast is sorely lacking. He is a RB bust, I was in on the hype early, but I've seen enough..... it's over.

Calling him a good pass blocker and that he doesn't hit the hole hard and fast? Have you actually watched him play? My goodness.

You must be confusing Turbin and Michael because you couldn't be more far off with those statements.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Michael is the polar opposite of that description.

That is why it is nice to see him progressing with his pass blocking skills. I don't think his running skills are in question.

Michael appears locked into the job unless he gets traded, but that's purely been Twitter-fueled speculation. Carroll raved about Michael's attention to detail heading into year three, while saying Rawls and fellow UDFA Rod Smith are simply "trying to hang" and "pushing themselves" to try and make the team. We still like Rawls' physicality. He's worth monitoring in deep Dynasty leagues.

I was, for sure. As a rookie with fantastic measurables (and a Seahawks homer) I was excited for him when he came into the league. The knock early in his 1st year was he wasn't picking up the blocking scheme and we're in year 3 and he's finally showing signs. Is it too late for him to turn it around? Of course not, but this thread has gotten so ridiculously anti that even when there's positive news we have 7 people bashing his progress.

Look--he's not about to overtake Lynch, period. The eye test tells me he would split with Turbin still but there's a website with a depth chart telling everyone else otherwise.

Yeah if you take the plays he did well on out and only include the plays he wasn't very successful on then he wasn't very successful.

They had enough confidence in his blocking to put him in with R Wilson during the 2-minute drill. And he looked good in protection. Had very little room to run, and he is still behind Turbin. Same old situation, but at least they trust him to block on passing downs.

Good. He could get more playing time in games that aren't close and maybe in games that are close

 
Wow, I just checked DLF for the first time eons and they have him at dynasty RB50 now. That's a pretty insane drop considering that his stats went up in every category last year (played in more games, had more carries, and a higher YPC than in 2013). Just goes to show you how fickle and impatient people can be. Some of the names they have ahead of him are pretty bad IMO (West, Ajayi, Ball, Helu, Knile, Freeman, Duke, Coleman, Vereen, Ellington). If that ranking reflects consensus thinking at this time then I'd be exploring my trade options with Michael. You might be able to pick him up for a 2nd round rookie pick or even less, which seems like a solid move.

DFL finally updating their rankings and moving him to RB50 isn't a fickle reaction. It's a long overdue market correction. He's been severely overrated for a couple of years. Now, he's pretty fairly rated.

Yeah, and it's just you opinion that it's a fickle adjustment. We'll see where it goes but the CM value has systematically declined for the past few years. It appears that has finally stopped.

 
Guys ranked above him by DLF that I would prefer Michael to regardless of team context in a PPR dynasty league:

Ball - less talent; short-term path to opportunity no better than Michael's, long-term opportunity and organizational outlook worse

West - unable to win consistent role against two backs who are arguably more talented; crappy organization

Ajayi - Medical concerns; Fighting for 4th on the depth chart

Cobb - limited talent who will likely never have job security, high reception volume, or three-down status

Davis - straight line runner with low career YPC

Blount - low ceiling, low floor, unpredictable usage, old

Helu - looks like career COP back

Jennings - old, injury concerns, muddled role in RBBC

Freeman - I think Coleman is better, and even if he isn't I think the Falcons won't settle for Freeman; likely career COP back

J. Bell - old, injury concerns, the less talented half of a RBBC whose touches/value will only diminish

After that, there's a group of guys where I might go either way depending on team context.

Most people understand that no one can predict the future and that the views we state here are only just our opinions. Others think otherwise and believe that their opinions represent fact and are infallible (like the guy who said that from a either an NFL or fantasy standpoint the success of Michael was "inevitable"}.

On the one hand it can be said that CM is entering his 3rd season and still has no real role in the offense, and that can be viewed as a big red flag.

On the other hand it can be said that the starter has been perhaps the most productive and healthy workhorse in the league during that time, so being blocked should be no surprise to anyone.

Those with patience may still be greatly rewarded (e.g., Michael Turner four years behind L Tomlinson before getting his shot), or they may just be wasting a roster spot year after year.

I have no magical insight, nor does anyone else. Just opinions, and faith or lack thereof. Thus the widely varying opinions and rankings on CM.

For Seattle's purposes Turbin is a better backup. I forgot where I saw the quote, their RB coach said he's reliable. The only way Michael was ever going to have a chance was with Lynch out of the picture.

When I drafted Michael I knew that. Somehow Lynch plays every game and he's still around so nothing has changed during two-going-on-three years so it feels like an empty investment. But I'm not dropping Michael until he's in a situation without Lynch in front of him, whether it's with Seattle or another team.

 
That's not good. I wonder if he'd put Marshawn on the bench like he did in Buffalo.
