Guy is crushing it in camp and preseason games and might get secondary touches (at a minimum) in a high scoring offense. Plus how many years in a row have we all bought the wrong Denver RB at draft time?

Considering he was the #3 before last week, that statement is more of an indictment on Ball's status then CJ's.

How was he the #3 before last week? Hillman played ahead of Ball in Saturday's game... then outplayed Ball again. He practiced ahead of Ball all last week.
Ball was still #2 on the depth chart last week. I take this as Hillman getting consideration as more than just a spell back. Not exactly what I want to hear but I agree with the above posters, Kubiak would love to grind the ball to keep Manning on his feet. I think they will rush it more than they have in the past and there will be enough to go around.

As an Anderson owner, I'm buying too. He might have some RB3/4 value and I think he'd be the highest value handcuff if Anderson were hurt.

Buying on Hillman he has earned a piece of the pie. He has earned 8-10 touches per game and the number could grow or explode if CJ gets nicked.

When you guys say you are "buying", what exactly are you paying?
I mean I have anderson and have been trying to pick up hillman for a while because I think Ball is terrible, but i am certainly not willing to pay much at all. I would pay an average handcuff rate. Future 3rd maybe.
But who is selling for that? So what are you paying or willing to pay right now?

I see the same situation, with Hillman not really threatening to be an every-down RB.
Again, this should be far more troubling for Montee Ball owners than CJ owners.

Drafted 13-7' PPR 12 team league, it's like getting the first four of six numbers on a lottery ticket right, just waiting for the final two, injury, or bad outing by CJ

Fair enough. He is an intriguing later round pick right now based on the buzz and his preseason performance and now some comments from coach and writer.
Enough to make non CJ owners perk up our ears and enough for me to move CJ down at least a few notches.

As it stands right now, signs point to Hillman earning more carries/opportunity based on preseason play. How much that will eat into CJ remains to be seen, but history of this system and Kubiak points to the use one main back.
If CJ goes down, we won't know how things will pan out, but history/system/Kubiak trends point to the same -- the next RB becoming the focal point for the running game. At this point, based on preseason play and ability to fill the role, either Ball or Hillman can do it, but performance leans towards Hillman being the guy.
As such, Hillman is the better handcuff right now. While we won't know until we know, the way Denver runs the ball, the way the system and Kubiak features one back, it will be CJ being the primary back with the others helping to spell/utilized on 3rd downs; if he's injured, we think Hillman has the better long term shot as both next guy up and a guy who has earned some more play regardless.

The way I see it CJ is a lock for 220+ carries 1k+ yards and 9+ TDs barring injury or a David Wilson type flop. Whether or not he gets more than that depends on how well Hillman does from here on out.

Pretty much.
Hillman is the handcuff to own, but there is certainly no timeshare coming here. Also, there is no way Anderson gets 90% of the touches either, but he will be right on par with % of touches at the RB position with the other top RBs around the league. I would imagine, barring injury, he would be around top 5 in that regard, and if not only a couple percentage points lower.
Hillman's play is a detriment to Ball mostly. Not Anderson.
If Anderson does get hurt though, I don't see Hillman as some 25 touch guy.

Not scared that Hillman will eat Andersons role, but in a deep dynasty league this Hillman seems to be a good investment.
Anderson is still a beast and will show it when the season starts!

As much as I'd like to think that will stay the case (as a Ball owner), we know depth charts in preseason are highly fluid and not an indicator of either what final depth chart will look like come Week 1, or of who is actually looking better on the field during practices and preseason games.
All signs seem to point to Hillman being more effective of a runner than Ball right now, and as such is more apt to be the guy that benefits the most both when CJ is healthy, and if he does get injured.

Same, I'm expecting a slight regression due to decreased volume for Hilton which could keep him right out of WR1 territory. C.J on the other hand has legitimate top-5 potential within his position.
My only true worry is that C.J's value is almost solely tied to Manning's health. As long as Manning remains upright, they'll be able to largely mask OL deficiencies. Combined with Kubiak skewing more towards the run and it's really hard for me to imagine the C.J we saw running in 2014 not thriving this year. I can understand people being turned off by what happened to Ball last year but Ball never shown us the ability to consistently put up RB1 #s like C.J has. His ADP is much less speculative.

So much for Ball somehow being the starter...
Montee ball rushed 16 times for 27 yards (1.7 YPC) in the Broncos' final preseason game.
It was a disastrous performance against second- and third-string defenders. Ball had one nice eight-yard run where he broke a tackle and gained extra yards, but after that he was the same sluggish back who has tumbled down the depth chart this preseason. It is difficult to see a future for Ball in Denver, and it would be surprising if he survives final cuts.

I'm now all in on Anderson after taking him in my main redraft auction league last night. I was outbid late for Hillman by an owner who simply had more $$ than me.
I was never concerned about Ball this season. I am however concerned about CJ's lack of history handling a high volume of carries, the offensive line, and increasingly about Manning's decline.

I have him in both of my redraft leagues, but only have Hillman as a handcuff in one of them.
All in on CJ this year.
In the middle of the 1st round of draft this year, I find myself wanting to take a young guy like CJ instead of falling into my same trap of drafting the "old stud RB" (like Lynch) when they always seem to be on my roster the year they hit the wall. Figured I might as well gamble on the younger guy for a change.

The red flags were there I chose to ignore them. Trying not to overreact to week 1 but Im getting major bust vibes here.
Hillman got a lot of snaps including, I believe, at least 3 of the 4 series to start 2nd half. And Hillman was more productive on the same amount of carries. 41 yards to 29.
Add in that the offensive line and Peyton both look woeful. And Anderson limped off the field after his last touch and NOT a good week 1 for Anderson owners.
