CJ is a better back than Hillman. But a healthy back is better than an injured back. So for right now, yes, Hillman is going to look better.
But context is king. In context, CJ is injured and Hillman is not.
Last year ball played through pain after an appendectomy and his core strength was terrible. Despite a promising rookie year, we were told that cj was obviously better. In five games as a starter last year, Hillman had over 100 total yards four times and 2 tds twice. But then he got hurt.
Then cj Anderson took over, and he was not only the healthy back, he also took over late in the season so he was the healthy back playing against defenses that were hurt.
So maybe what we're really seeing is that healthy cj against beat up defenses is better than healthy Hillman against healthy defenses, but healthy Hillman is as good as healthy cj, and healthy Hillman is better than hurt cj. Or something like that.
Or maybe cj just isn't as good at running Kubiaks system as he is for fox/gase.
There's more to it than player a is better than player b. These aren't madden players with a number next to their name.
