Clevand interested in Vick? (1 Viewer)

"ESPN Joe Schad reports that there is some interest from the Clevand Brown that there could be a blockbuster trade in the works that would send Braylon Edwards and their first round pick to Atlanta Falcons for Michael Vick. This would impose a $24 plus million cap penalty for the Falcons but could use it as leverage to gain 3 first round picks if Matt Schuab is traded also. Now getting all three of thes forst round picks under the cap could be had to swallow. But with no QB on the roster the Falcons could have thier pick of Brady Quinn or Jamarcus Russel."

I don't have a link but there is already a page long thread on PR. Sounds pretty bogus to me.

Here is the link to the thread. People are asking for a link, so it may be false. The guy who posted is pretty reputable though.

One of the only teams that can say Vick would be an improvement over what they have, but not by a lot.

So Vick goes to Atlanta and throws to a set of receivers WORSE than what he has now, and the Browns start over at WR since they lose Edwards? :goodposting:

And the Falcons start over at the QB position?

God I love the offeason. What's next, the Colts trade Manning to Oakland for their #1 and Terdell Sands. Makes sense, doesn't it? The Colts improve their rush defense and get to pick JaMarcus Russell, so WHY NOT!?

All I know about that is that the trade of Vick would improve both teams' QB situation.

I can understand Atlanta wanting to trade Vick, but they would not trade Schaub too. Edwards and a #1 would be a steal for the Falcons.

This would only work in Madden and even then the AI would be too smart to do this. Why would they take the cap hit then try and get 3 #1 picks to try and fit under the cap with no QB?

Also, Andy, not to hi-jack this thread, but I'd take the Browns WR corp over Atlanta's anyday. 3 #1's that have done what? And don't blame Vick, he can get the ball to Crumpler okay why can't he get the ball to his receivers? Because they suck.

Hmmm . . . ATL would use up almost 25% of their cap space for a player no longer on their roster to then draft a rookie and have to shell out another $50 million (give or take) to sign him.

Cleveland, on the other hand, then takes on the largest contract on record and would give Vick worse receiving options than he has now (with Edwards gone).

Makes PERFECT sense to me.

Does ESPN simply make these stories up? I am beginning to think that the National Enquirer has more reliable sources.

 Yeah, the pro scouts are willing to give up a future stud WR and a #3 overall pick for a guy thats a marginal starter...you're clearly a much better evaluator of talent than they are.

Uhhh.... who are these "pro scouts" you speak of? You don't think this is actually happening, do you? Nobody's giving up crap to get him.

I agree that this trade is bogus but there are numerous teams that would trade for Mike Vick. Sure he has some issues on the field (that he may or may not resolve) but Vick would put butts in the seats and gear on the backs of fans. Atlanta needed a boost when he got there and I'm sure there are a handful of owners who would see $$$ signs dancing in their heads and excitement back in their stadium. If Vick is on the block there will be a team willing to give up a decent amount to acquire him. I'm not saying it makes sense for Atlanta to take the cap hit or for another team to try and develop Vick as a pocket passer...just that there is an owner out there that would pull the trigger in order for his team to acquire Mike Vick. Al Davis for one...Mike Vick to Calvin Johnson anyone? :)

So the argument is that Vick will increase ticket and jersey sales but not necessarily improve a football team. I can buy that.

The original maker of this rumor must be a certain FF owner in one of my leagues.

I get offers like this all the time from the guy.

While I understand you are only reporting the quote and link - I find it hard to think ESPN wrote that considering the spelling mistakes throughout the entire quote.

Good catch! No other reports have emerged either. Doubtful ESPN doesn't have simple spell check so would say this myth is busted.
