Went to Mateo's first birthday party recently. Fairly normal name, parents (bespoke menswear designers) are Filipina and Puerto Rican. They had their first child after 13 years of marriage and spending a small fortune on in vitro fertilization; we're all very happy for them. Anyway, they like to refer to their son by his middle name.

I'm surprised there are so few people with my last name.  I knew it was rare, but figured it was at least well into the thousands.  I've run across a couple in my life that weren't a known cousin.

I only know 12 people with my actual last name.  My grandfather had no brothers and two sons.  Both of them had a son and we both have 1 son each.  Grandfather passed away last year, so there are only 6 living males with my last name and only 2 of them will probably ever procreate again.  Our family name is limping along.

 
Names should be like online video games. Once a name is taken, no one else can use it.  Then we'd have a bunch of babies named Joe184560.
