Coach of the Year (1 Viewer)

candidates: Fisher, Mangini, Payton

I'd go with Mangini, but could easily be swayed over to Fisher. Payton's done well, but has more talent to work with.

GM of the year is between the Saints and Jets as well.

You guys are killing me with the "more talent" arguement. Where were you guys talking about all this talent before the season started? An ageing WR, a rookie RB, a RB coming off major knee surgery who most considered him done, a QB that most didn't even expect to be ready at the start of the season, a rookie 7th round pick at WR...of course I'm sure most experts figured guys like D. Henderson, T. Copper, J. Jones, B. Miller and M. Karney would pick up the slack. Don't even get me started on the defensive side of the ball. Payton has put all of these guys in position to win games. There are many coaches who are quite deserving this season, but it won't even be close. Payton WILL win this award hands down.

Titans fan here and as much as I admire Fischer's accomplishments this year I'd give it to Mangini or Payton. Jauron and Billick are next in line (after Fischer) followed by Nolan and Schottenheimer

I'd go Mangini or Fisher.....and I'm slightly leaning towards Fisher.

Payton is doing awesome but it's not just the coaching. They acquired Colston, Reggie Bush and Drew Brees. Whoever's responsible for bringing those players to the team, that's who should get "something" of the year, darn nice job although like I said, Payton is doing great.

Mangini's team is definately overachieving, but they have been all year. So maybe they are overachieving or we just partly underestimated them coming out of the shoot.

I think Tennesee is the team that's impressed me the most with their turnaround of play. They were a terrible team at the beginning of the year. They improved on defense and have got their running game together somewhat and are making some plays with Young.

I just like coaches who can make adjustments on the fly, mid season. That shows me you can coach, that you can recognize a problem and fix it.....that's coach of the year material.

I also don't think it's decided yet, it's that close. If one of the teams mention goes in the tank the next two weeks, that coach won't win coach of the year. The Saints go to the Giants, we'll see if he can coach this team to a must win victory with Dallas now nipping at their heals for the No. 2 seed and of course the Jets trying to keep their playoff hopes alive.

That has nothing to do with Payton. He didn't heal Deuce's knee or Brees' shoulder. He built a nice O for them to play in but ...cmon

My vote will go to Fisher. What he has done in Tennessee this season with a "project" under center is nothing short of amazing. He had hardly a running game to work with, lousy WRs, the fact theya re 7-7 and might finish .500 or better is beyond what anyone thought they would do. I fully expected them to have a top5 pick next year and use it for a stud WR to give Young some weapons.

I also think Payton is worthy of the award should he get it and would not mind that selection at all.

 If you don't give the coach at least some credit for improving the talent, then the award simply goes to whoever won the most close games with a mediocre team.

It seems like on one side you have the guys who had decent teams but were supposed to suck: Mangini, Fisher, Payton.

And on the other, guys who coach the top teams that are at least overachieving compared to preseason expectations a little: Marty, Lovie, maybe Parcells and Payton.

It seems like Payton falls into both groups - depending on how good you think the Saints are. Is 9-5 in the NFC really any better than 8-6 or 7-7 in the AFC?

Re Fischer: I'd give him the award strictly on the merit of what he's done with PacMan this year, a big turnaround in my opinion - and I'm only partially kidding here.

It's between Payton and Mangini, and I'd give the edge to Payton.

Parcells deserves mention because he's done an awful lot right this year under some tough circumstances, but waiting so long to bench Bledsoe counts against him.

Schottenheimer also deserves mention, but that horrible play-calling against the Ravens counts against him. The players won that game; the coaches lost it.

Fisher deserves mention because of the late-season turn-around, but early in the season the Titans did not play like a well coached team. That counts against him.

Way to snippet part of the post only... I was mearly pointing out in my ENTIRE POST how most people wouldn't have considered most of these guys "weapons" prior to the season starting. I didn't hear how the Saints had "all these weapons" before the season got underway. Did you?
