Colonoscopy preparation today..... (1 Viewer)

Micheal Brown I had similar symptoms but more on my right side. It was the gall bladder. Its gone now. Easy procedure and everything seems fine.

I'm 41. March 9th for an endoscopy and colonoscopy. Guess they want to get in there when they put me under.

/yeah, worried.
If they were too worried they would have scheduled it earlier. What symptoms caused the test to be scheduled?
Eh, specialist and health care. The causes? Ulcers, massive dehydration (magnesium levels are way off) and bleeding in places blood shouldn't be. Only happened briefly, and stopped more than a month ago, but they still want to do it.
Likely nothing to worry about. When my primary care doc really thought I had an issue, I had seen a GI doc, had a colonoscopy, and was in surgery all within a week.
Thanks. That's reassuring. I hope you're okay for a long time, man.

Oh ya, I was 21 at the time. A long long time ago.

Thanks for the nice thoughts though.

So I had my consultation and the doc is giving me that giant half-gallon jug to drink. I've heard people talking about a less disgusting drink or even a pill method to clean my out for the test. Should I look for a different doctor that is using more modern means or just suck it up and drink the crap?
Step 1. Google "Miralax Colonoscopy Prep"

Step 2. Click on first link

Step 3. Follow the directions from step 2

Step 4. Start process the day before colonoscopy

Step 5. Crap your brains out

Step 6. Sleep very close to a toilet

Step 7. Go to center where colonoscopy will be done

Step 8. Tell doctor you drank the whole half gallon of that disgusting liquid
Thank you so much for this fred. Worked like a charm. Didn't even taste anything besides the Gatorade. Doc said I was cleaned out great and I told him I went with this instead of what he recommended.

Piece of cake from start to finish. All good, I got a clean poop chute!

Thanks for all the advice from others.

PSA

All I can say is when it's time to do it, get it done. It's not a big deal. And it usually is covered as preventive with insurance so you won't have to worry about your deductible. One of the few cancers that can be prevented, so why not do it?

I have never been put under anesthesia before. That was pretty crazy. Doc said "ok, see ya later" I tried keeping my eyes open but don't even remember falling asleep. They woke me up towards the end to have me breathe in for the final part. Kinda cool watching it on the monitor. What a sick job though. Glad someone else is doing it, not me.

Damn, thanks for the advice. Glad it went well.

Thx. Good luck with yours!

Receptionist says to me "do you know that you have a $6000 deductible?" I say yes, but isn't this covered because it's preventive?

She had to call my insurance to check. How does she not know that?

because insurance companies.
Well, she made it like she had never heard that before. She seems like she runs the office part and isn't someone new.

I can confirm, that you can drink the night of your colonoscopy...lol Unless I die by morning.

So basically I didn't listen to much that my doctor told me.

Awesome. Great to hear everything went well!

I have my alarm clock set to a radio station and, no f'n joke, it turned on with a commercial that said "how about a breakfast sandwich to begin your day. It starts with cheese blanketing"...click. Shut it off. So funny at that moment. I was awake waiting for the alarm to go off.

My wife had this done a few weeks ago. She puked up about half of the first toxic mix they assign you to take. For some reason she did not realize you didn't have to chug it. So, down the hatch it went and back up it came. Took the second batch over time and was all good. Everything turned out fine.

Done and home. Felt like i was awake for most of the procedure and watched on the TV though they said i was out at least for some of it. Pretty good i think. One polyp removed and 2-3 tiny ones. Now just trying to get the butt trombone working to relieve the gas.

:blackdot:

Procedure was scheduled for today, rescheduled due to weather for next Thursday.
so here I am, after two cancellations due to weather. prepping today for the procedure tomorrow.

dang it would have been nice for this to be over with.

Beef broth is better than I thought but my head is still a bit fuzzy.

Waiting in the lobby.

Biggest thing that sucked was no food yesterday and no veggies for 3 days.

The Gatorade wasn't bad. Just a lot of it.

Waiting 90 minutes for this with my wife and 4yo in the lobby (the person who was supposed to watch him got sick). Fun times.
