Colts GM Bill Polian confirmed that the teams will retain Dallas Clark in 2008, with a long-term deal or the franchise tag.

"Our preference would be via contract," Polian said, adding that early contract talks haven't been promising.

Smart move but I don't see why he has to state this publically.

No big surprise there. Now that Sanders is locked up, Clark is ripe for the franchise tag. Especially since the average of the top 5 tight end salaries is much less than most other positions.

As much as I detest Polian, he is doing a great job maintaining that team's core.
