Continuous Rays thread: fun season (2 Viewers)

Price did a great interview with Rosenthal. Gained a lot of respect for him and he said what a lot of people have been thinking for a while.

@Ken_Rosenthal: Price said he had support from around baseball. RT @markmulder20: New favorite player---> David Price. Just heard interview he did today.

Whelp. Not sure there is any hope. Jim a pessimistic fan in general but being 12 under on June 2nd almost has to be insurmountable.

I've never been so shocked honestly. I thought this team would be a juggernaut.

It was about time, honestly. Ortiz is a known cheater and pimps home runs all over the place. Surprised it took this long for someone to drill him.

They've completely given up at this point.
What would have been the odds before the season that they ended up with a worse record than the Cubs?I'm honestly floored.
Really stunning. The lineup was never full of All-Stars, but nobody could have seen this coming.
Not chock full of all-stars but almost all league average at least (I thought). Didn't seem like any major holes.

I don't recall if I've ever been so disappointed by any team I root for.

Shades of last year's Jays team with the huge gap between expectations and performance. What do the Rays do now? Obviously you don't even think about a managerial change. Does Price end up on the market? Anyone else? Can they shoot that dirtbag rapist into the sun now? Seems like it's not a particularly young or old team, but there aren't a ton of prospects knocking on the door either, which makes me wonder what happens when the season is essentially over already. I'm sure they'll still find a way to crush the Jays late in the season in some pivotal moment.

Yea but the difference between them and last year's Jays are that they had a playoff run the year before. It's mostly the same guys, 8 months later.

I am sure they consider trading Price, only for the right deal.

There aren't a ton of prospects but Kiermeier gets to play daily now and he's at least started hot.

But all of their everyday starters are aigned through next year and almost all through 2016. I thought that was great news 4 months ago...

I don't mean to piie on, but THIS is rock-bottom.

They couldn't score a single run at home against one of the worst starting pitchers you'll ever see.

I think most of the players have just checked out.

Hopefully there is a transcendent #1 player next year.

Does Oviedo get a shot to close? I saw his name mentioned in an AP article today and he's being added in Yahoo leagues pretty aggressively.
Well if he goes to the best pitcher it'll be McGee. If he wants to leave him in his current role it'll be Oviedo I suppose.

If they give it to McGee I'm not sure Balfour gets it back.

Well I guess there's not much to watch this year.

- Can Kiermaier be an every day guy? He's already a ++ defensive player so he doesn't have to be an amazing bat. If his bat sticks though, they almost have to move Desmond and his putrid range to LF. Kiermaier's arm and range are amazing. If Myers ever gets back to form, a Jennings-Kiermaier-Myers OF next year wouldn't be awful.

I don't think Jennings will be more than ok though. He's just a guy.

I love how hard Kiermaier runs and plays. Wish the rest of the team did that. He flat out BUSTS it down the line.

- Will they trade Price? They almost have to. A haul for him and a top-5 pick immediately replenishes the system. Still a bunch of arms at AAA.

I hope they call some of these Durham guys up soon to get them to shake the nerves off now. No point in waiting. Trade Bedard to a contender.

Potential 2015 rotation:

Cobb

Archer

Hellickson

Odorizzi

Colome/Karns

Moore back in the summer

I'm not sure that's a championship-level rotation but it's not bad and full of potential too.

- when does Hak Lee replace Escobar? Boy has he been a bust this year.

They came pretty close to scoring that inning. Lineout to 2nd with runners on 2nd & 3rd with 1 out.

Scoreless streak now at 23.

I love how Maddon constantly stares at the lineup card as if Reggie Jackson and Rod Carew are going to magically appear on it.

Think Balfour wants to kill himself after being summoned in the 7th inning to retire legendary, current .194-hitter Mark Ellis?

"Remember 2008, the year the Rays came from nowhere? Evidently, this is the year when they go back."

Ouch. Times shredded them today.

My buddy went to a game yesterday and said beers were $10 a piece in 16oz aluminum bottles. That is insane.

Any time I hear someone complain about the attendance I roll my eyes. You really want people to go to the games? Make it affordable. There's no reason to fight that traffic during the week to sit in that stadium and get raped if I want a bag of peanuts.

Is today Price's last home game with the Rays?

:kicksrock:
It certainly looked that way. They're going to get a nice haul for him.

I keep wondering why he's acting like he's so bummed? I'll never try to get into the head of an athlete regarding earning potential, but I'm sure the Rays have offered him an extension to stay here.

I can't imagine taking $10 million less per year to stay but I wouldn't be a crybaby when they were forced to trade me either.

I imagine they offered him something like 5/75 but he can get 7/140 out there.
