Supposedly through the roof, which is why he's still a Brewer. He's also only controlled through this year with a team option for 2017. At some point there needs to be some kind of go for it mentality though. Conger can barely throw the ball back to the pitcher.

Yea I thought I had read that it would take somebody of Snell's caliber. That's a no-go for me, but there are plenty of B+ pitching prospects I would be ok moving for him. Guerreri, Faria, etc.

Jennings is just awful. Guyer has been a better player for 2 years now. Why are they burying him for this guy?

For some unknown reason they won't let any righties face righties other than Longoria, Jennings, Forsythe, and Souza. They finally let Pearce face Gausman the other night, who was throwing 99, and he got on base twice. Then they bench him the next day.

I think Guyer is a much better defensive player than Jennings. Not sure if the data supports that.Defense?

Yea I don't get why DJ gets the benefit of the doubt against righties but nobody else does.

Definitely a weird feel for a Rays team. The pitching has been pretty poor and they can't catch anything, but they're mashing at the plate.
I have no confidence they'll make a significant trade though to put them in a position to get over the hump. They never have before and they're too cheap. Pearce has an escalator clause in his contract once he gets over a certain number of at bats. He didn't tell me this, but I honestly think they haven't been using him because they don't want to pay for him to go over.
He has pretty much forced their hand at this point though. That and Forsythe being hurt.

One year deal. It's an additional $1M if he's over 400 ABs.
He's from here obviously and just bought a house in Tampa. Wouldn't surprise me if he took a little less to stay, but knowing the Rays any offer likely wouldn't be competitive. Assuming he keeps hitting like this.

Same as the tees...neither us or New Era made them. Teams have the ability to use a local company for give-aways.
We are doing a Majestic tee for them that will ship in the next few days with the official RAYS wordmark and rainbow fill (I think it's still on).

I was living in St Pete when they opened. Probably half the mortgage office I worked in went down to the opening day game when Boggs was playing and they were the Devil Rays, still have the original logo cap. 2008 looked like it was going to be special, consistent hitting has been the weakness seems like forever. I'm not surprised Maddon was able to simply turn the key in Chicago. When he left the Rays I knew it was going to be a long road ahead.
Is there hope the team will be good in 2-3 years once the youngsters get more time like the Marlins this season are finally seeing some of their young guys arrive at the same time. Or are the Rays like 5-6 full drafts and filling up the minor leagues first before they are going to get back to a winning season?

Question: Do you blame the fans/citizens of TB in any way for the demise? They were really good for several seasons and they had a hard time drawing fans. I'm irritable with Miami for not being out in droves for the Marlins BUT Loria has ruined the entire experience for many down here. If I was smarter I wouldn't support them but it's hard not to watch and also all the other teams who pass thru here.

Rays system is pretty bare of elite talent. Lots of B+ type of hitters in there but no future studs. Plenty of arms though.
I don't really blame the fans. The location sucks, the trop sucks and baseball live is boring as ####. Look how great the Lightning are supported. Every ticket sold.

So what's the plan for next year? There isn't any mlb talent at AAA except maybe Gillapsie but he's 2018. There is some talent at AA.

Good rotation as always, even if they struggled some this year. Cobb could and probably will be traded
decent 1/2 in the pen with Colome and Box I guess.
Lot of holes. Not sure if the other side of the rainbow is anywhere near.

They really shouldn't have been this bad. Tons of injuries.
The rotation is solid as usual. They will basically have a pair of aces in Archer and Snell. Cobb was a solid #2 before injury. You can't get much deeper than Smyly and Odorizzi as #4 and #5.
I really think the lack of catching talent killed them this year. Miller at short. No KK in center. Those are just awful spots to have below average defense. Maile isn't a bat, but he'll be a lot better on defense, which is what they need. It's a pretty small sample, but they've been a heck of a lot better on the mound since his promotion. They won't sign anyone in free agency, and there aren't really any good options regardless. Looks like he's the guy unless they trade for someone.
Duffy at short is dubious. He's a really good hitter though.
They still have Mahtook and Shaffer too.
I really think the "power plan" makeup of this team as designed was a good idea. Hit some dingers and outpitch everyone. I'd have no problem with them doubling down on it for 2017. The catching and KK getting hurt just killed them.
The cupboard in the minors of immediate contributors is pretty bare, so I understand why they were kicking around the idea of trading Archer. I wouldn't be opposed to them entertainging trading another starter for some MLB ready talent in the offseason. They still have Andriese as well.
Forsythe is set to make some money next year and in 2018. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get moved when they have control of Nick Franklin, Tim Beckham, and Brad Miller for the next 3 years.
They were rumored as being in on Puig before the deadline. He could be an option in the outfield. LA is clearly done with him. I imagine he'd get a few fans excited to attend a game or two as well.
Pearce has told me point blank that he would come back for less money to play for the Rays. He was really disappointed to get traded.

Yea the Pearce thing sucks. Maybe he can get a 2-year deal with them to be the short side of the 1B platoon with Miller and DH some. Would love that.
KK was a major loss this year. I don't think you can quantify just how bad the SP was without him out there. So many hits that dropped in. That said, he needs to be a smidge less aggressive so that he can stay out there. Also, agree about Maile.

If the Cubs felt they had a great need for starting pitching, they could have easily picked up Hammel's option. That ship may have sailed but there are plenty of other teams that need SP.
I don't see Tampa with tremendous depth in this area. Moore has already been traded and Cobb's September cameo won't help his trade value.
Archer would command a big haul but his trade value isn't at its peak right now either. There's an article on Fangraphs that argues he has greater trade value than Chris Sale. But I don't think these types of rumored blockbusters come to fruition that often.
Andriese and Erasmo won't bring a regular in return. Which leaves Odorizzi, which would force the other two guys to be rotation regulars.
I'm assuming Snell is untouchable.

Soler for Cobb makes some sense to me. I don't think Soler is much of a "Rays guy," but you can't deny his power, and TB's strategy last year definitely leaned toward ignoring defense and adding guys who could run into one once in a while. He's controlled through 2020 on a pretty cheap contract.
