Continuous Rays thread: fun season (1 Viewer)

So basically all this means is he will be traded in 2025 instead of 2023.

Per SBJ, the 15-year agreement would pay the Rays about $50 million in 2019 and an average of about $82 million a season through 2033. That would represent a sizable boost for the team, which will collect about $35 million in 2018 in the final year of its current deal, which has reportedly paid out an average of only $20 million per.

keep telling me how you can’t afford to keep players Stu, and I’ll keep giving the bolts and even the awful Bucs my season ticket money.

Cash said 4-man rotation will be all season, not just the first month. All-bullpen day when the 5th game rolls around.

That sure will be something.

It’s odd but it may work. How many fifth starters are any good? That bullpen day may actually work out.

Problem is De Leon died yesterday too.
Saw the DeLeon thing. I guess that you guys just can't have nice things.

As for bullpen day, you're burning your bullpen up for an extra 5ish innings every 5th day.

Hypothetical, 4 guys doing 2 innings each on 5th starter day. That's half your bullpen likely unavailable for the next day if not two. Then you only have 2 LHP but find yourself in a spot needing to play late inning matchups the next day and only 1 LHP available because the other one threw 45 pitches the day before.

Then on the 3rd day, Blake Snell doesn't make it out of the 3rd.

Can't see how purposely putting yourself in this scenario could be a positive

My race pick up was at the Trop on Sunday.  I joked with a parking attendant about there being more cars there for the race than most games.  She said I haven’t seen anything yet.    Au revoir Les Rays.

They referenced the “Durham shuttle” ie bringing guys back and forth but.....don’t they have to pitch in Durham too?

I have to imagine this got shot to hell with De Leon being gone.

I’m kind of looking forward to the bullpen days shtick. They’ve done those a few times in the past and it always seemed to work. I remember a shutout in there.

The lineup though. Wow. Span? Duffy? CJ Cron?? :lmao:  Wendle??? Holy crap, that is just piss awful.

They are really bad.  So bad I’m debating going to the game next Saturday night against the Phillies.  I don’t like Phillies home games.

:tfp:

Top 3 farm system in baseball.  I assume they're just mega tanking until the new stadium is built?

Same thing the Cubs and Astros did.

I guess I should say if the new stadium is built.

They could have both had a great farm system AND kept Corey Dickerson. It wasn’t an either/or thing. I sort of get the Souza/Longoria deal because they brought back prospects but Dickerson was unacceptable imo.

Also, the cubs/Astros spent money to surround their talented young vets. Lol at the idea of the Rays trading for Verlander or signing a guy to fill out the lineup.

We’ll see when they get back to a competitive point. Probably a year later than they were expecting due to the pitching injuries now.

They traded for some veterans last year during the season and took on some salary. It didn’t work so they cut the chord.

They’ve never been the kind of franchise to give out huge FA contracts and their homegrown guys that wanted them have moved on. Most if not all of those players have floundered or been a shell of themselves after leaving the Rays.

They aren’t winning, but that isn’t because they’ve jettisoned a bunch of great talent.

Is this just a hot streak for Cron or is there something to consider?

He seemed like a guy with flaws but with consistent PT could develop into a decent option.

Cron's production is pretty much in line with what he did for the Anaheims.  .270/.319/.413 is decent by Tampa Bay standards but nothing special for a 1B/DH type.  He is under team control through 2020 but hopefully Jake Bauers will push Cron off 1B.

“Thursday marked the fifth straight game in which the Rays scored at least eight runs, something they had never done for more than three straight games. For context, no other team in the majors has scored eight or more in five straight this season, five teams have never done it and 10 others haven't done it in the 2000s.”

That...that is definitely not something I was expecting to read this year.

If they’re tanking they sure are doing it wrong.
Seems like they are headed towards 75-80 wins which is.....fine? They just don’t have enough offense to compete every night despite that wild stretch where they were pouring it on.

Hopefully in the second half we get Adames, Bauers, Arroyo and Williams.

:goodposting:  I think it’s my old tried and true approach to ignoring them.  They do better when I don’t care.  I’ll try and keep it up.
Seems like they have a pretty good young core. Big Bauers fan. Adames feels like he’s going to be a star.
