The Raiders are dreadful this year and have no clue how to run an offense. Hypothetically speaking, could the Buckeys matchup up against the Raiders and deliver a beat down? I think Troy Smith, Pittman, and Glenn could put up some serious stats on the Raiders. Defensively, a Pop Warner team could probably stop the Raiders right now. Here's my hypothetical score if the two teams were to meet.

OSTATE - 30

Oak - 10

Thoughts??

nope.

The pro game has 11 stud atheletes on the field at all times (yes this includes the Raiders). The seperation in talent alone would be too great for OSU to overcome.

Raiders - 31

OSU - 10 (maybe)

You are merely advertising your ignorance. Don't feel bad, someone always feel compelled to make the comparison every year between the best college team and the worst pro team so you have company.

this thread pops up every year, and the answer is still no. The diferences in the trenches is too great. As good as OSU is, they dont have NFL players accross both lines. While they arent good NFL players, the raiders do.

Oakland destroys OSU at the point of attack and wins by at least 4 TD's.

There would be some individual things that the best O-State players could do to hold their own, but on a team-vs-team level, no way a college team beats a pro-team. Not saying its impossible, but something like 1 time out a hundred could it be done, at best. The worst players on a pro roster would be a stand out- likely WAS a standout- on the college level. Not to mention the conditioning and over-all speed of the pros compared to the amateurs.

I remember way back in the day when the worst pro team would actually play the best college team. The college team never won.

A better question might be what level and caliber of a college team could the best High School team in the contry compete with. My High school team was much more talented than my Div. III college team.

Sweet!! Glad to know I started this year's best college team vs. the worst pro team thread. Where's my trophy at?

No trophy, just the satisfaction that comes with the honor.

History of the College All Star Game

History

Arch Ward, the sports editor of the Chicago Tribune, in 1934 came up with the idea of a pre-season game between the NFL champions and a team of college all-stars to benefit the newspaper's charity fund. All of the games were played at Soldier Field in Chicago.

The first meeting, on Aug. 31, 1934, ended in a scoreless tie. In the early years, the college players did pretty well against the pros. The NFL champions dominated in later years, however, losing only once after 1955.

In 1976, the game was suspended and finally called off because of a heavy rainstorm late in the third quarter, with the Pittsburgh Steelers holding a 24-0 lead.

That was the last game of the series. There were two main reasons for the demise. First, pro football salaries had reached a much higher level, many college players who were unwilling to take part in the game for fear of injury. Second, fan interest had declined substantially because of the NFL's dominance.

Maybe he's a Michigan fan, because what always happens after this thread gets started is, the college team goes and loses.

If you're trying to be funny, we don't have a sense of humor that we're currently aware of in the Shark Pool.

If you're trying to be serious, well, I just don't know where to go with that.
