Coward fatally ambushes 2 NYPD, commits suicide (3 Viewers)

How would a saber-rattling conservative mayor have prevented these two deaths?
I don't think anyone's saying he could have prevented them.
"Blood on his hands"
Blood on his hands means he has some level of responsibility for the killings. You could still have contributed to the killings without having been capable of preventing them.
So, if what he did or didn't do wouldn't change the course of events, how did he contribute again?

Do I have to choose a side, or can I be upset with both Garners death and today's shootings?
Jesus. Thank you.
For what?

I'm guessing most people are upset at both.
Seems like in order to prove one's political bona fides, you have to be on one side or the other. How about that the NYPD, Farrahkhan, the guy from Baltimore, Sharpton, and whacked out assassins all have problems?

In other words, there's no side here. It's a lot of screwed up stuff. I also don't take the Thin Blue Line nor police unions with anything but a massive grain of salt.

an endless world of finger pointing. I'm not sure how we'll ever overcome it.

Has Tim chimed in yet? He must be doing some serious wordsmithing on his "outrage/yet he understands" it typical answer.

I think there's room to address terrible and accepted policing methods, The Nation of Islam, native race-baiters, and public unions and employment and their stranglehold on big-city politics.

We can't do that, Jamny? Why not?

Sharpton demagoguery almost rises to the level of fascistic at times, it's almost Crown Heights all over again. He and De Blasio and their ilk should turn down the rhetoric now.

Tragic.
Sharpton condemned the killings:http://jezebel.com/letitia-james-al-sharpton-release-statements-after-kil-1673654680
"he doesn't really mean it" -- The Right
Really, just "the right"?

Independents, moderates and liberals, progressives and "the left" don't think he is an absolute, professional race baiter? What happened at Crown Heights, just another misunderstanding? Who does support him?
Stay focused on this!

This was all I was trying to say earlier but obviously not very clearly. It's just strange to me sometimes that people's first reaction is to get into their political corners and prepare to duke it out. I'm sure this guy was stirred up by what happened in NYC and Ferguson, but why immediately single out certain individuals as being responsible for provoking this?

He fostered an anti police environment. He, Farakhan, Sharpton, the Leftist pigs - they all have some blood on their hands. Some overtly called for violence against the police and others tacitly condoned the environments that helped spawn it.But you know this already. You're just being belligerent.

Go right ahead. I prefer to avoid that #### in a discussion about this senseless killing. There should be no angle in this.

Gotcha. I thought the seal on the context had been broken and it had already gone there.

Remembrance threads are different, but maybe we should sort of explicitly say that. This became politically loaded pretty quickly. I hope nobody took offense to my points.

This unfortunately could get out of hand, in some parts of the country, really quickly. :toilet:
I'm afraid you're right. Things in this country are very bad at the moment. As bad as I've ever seen, and I lived through some pretty dark times during the 70's. We seem to be coming apart at the seems, and things really do appear to be going downhill fast.

The killings were politically motivated so talking about the political situation seems perfectly reasonable.

I'm not being belligerent, I'm disagreeing with how you define things like "responsibility" and "cause."

Things in this country are better than they've ever been. We're safer, life expectancy is way up, crime is down, and law enforcement deaths are lower than they've been in 40 years.

I found Ramos' facebook page. He had a beautiful family. Two good looking boys, on HS age, one college age. So sad.

Hey look everyone! It's Officer Pete Malloy trolling again in a thread about two murdered cops. Isn't he a hoot? How old are you Malloy? 14? 15? For realz.
Why are you so angry?

Be careful or Malloy will fix your spelling...Yeah, it's horrible. His kid is the exact same age as mine. Just spent the whole day with him at a track meet and was thinking how important it is to have a father actively involved at this stage of is life. Such tough years for a kid - even harder than when I was young. I may actually make the trip to NY for the funeral to pay my respects...

Don't forget to tell your kid to watch out for those evil cops.

I pay attention to different posters than maybe we all do. Even if I quote someone, it's the tone and tenor of it. KCitons didn't start it, I like the person who did make it a political issue, and I think they weren't wrong here, either.

I have much respect for the officers. Policy questions and RIP stuff maybe should be separate threads if it upsets people. I get that, too. I always thought it was callous when people politicked in an RIP thread. Just me. But I was doing the Rome in Rome thing.

No, we are wondering why you are so angry at other people in this thread.

Pretty sure every rational person on this board is angry about these killings.

There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear

I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

This guy has more connection to the person that killed his roommates and then started killing "cool" people in California than he does any kind of protest on police violence. It isn't political. Stop poisoning a valid point that many speak for and stop giving this guy some unwarranted importance.

Pretty sure cops don't need any help in this regard.

To come to this conclusion you would have to deliberately ignore the details of the situation.

General Tso, based on your chicken I expected a much more pleasant, complex, and yes enjoyable experience, albeit with a kick.

People are cheering the deaths, at the crime scene, to the mourning police.

Across the street from the hospital where two Brooklyn police officers were brought after being murdered, there were carnations and a makeshift memorial: a cardboard box and a handmade sign in marker reading, "R.I.P. NYPD." Hundreds of cops saluting as the bodies were rolled out with a full escort by highway patrol. Citizens were watching in shock from above on the subway station.

Throughout New York, the execution-style killing of these officers in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn has generated a near-universal sense of horror at the crime -- and sympathy for the victims.

"Now we have two families that's missing someone from the holidays," a Bedford-Stuyvesant resident told a local news station. "Where's your sense of humanity?"

But the scene outside Woodhull Hospital wasn't entirely supportive. "You're a bunch of killers," a passerby told cops standing sentry there, according to one police source. And short distance from the crime scene -- where a crowd was backed up by the police tape -- a few members of the crowd repeated "#### the cops" within earshot of a Daily Beast reporter.

One 30-year-old local who gave his first name only as Carlos, didnt hear the fatal gunfire but saw the hysteria aftewards and walked to the police tape.

A lot of people were clapping and laughing, he said.

Some were saying, They deserved it, and another was shouting at the cops, Serves them right because you mistreat people! he said.

Yeah, so I pretty much predicted this a few weeks ago during the Michael Brown riots. Al Sharpton, the Brown family, and all the protesters - they all have a little blood on their hands tonight. Sleep well.
Good lord.

2 people are dead, needlessly, and that's the platform you stand on to tell us you're a Race Nostradamus?

Here is the problem where both sides have "blood on their hands". The TGOP have fostered such hate and discord towards the President of te United States and the lack of respect and trust that he deserves. That filters down to all govt positions.
The Left have fostered a hey everyone is a victim even if they are criminals to where no one has to take responsibility for their actions.

The biggest problem we have is that the media, has to be there first and then starts putting out opinions out there. Instead of just reporting the facts of the story. They promote the hysteria by trying to interview the crazies.

How you stop this direction. I am not sure, but it is going to have to be a very special person to bring this country back together. Or a very tragic event like 9/11. Hoping it's not the latter!

Am I totally missing something? The murderer himself said this was retaliation for police violence.
